Guys, with future tests. I noticed that there is high amperage going to iPad when using a single Power bank with 2x 2.4A output at the same time. To avoid this high amperage, just charge ipad and power up the Hub from different power source. 👍

Can you backup iPhone photo to USB drive? I don’t find this type of video online, please make one. My parents iPhone keep getting full because of taking too much photo. Using computer to backup just too hard for them. Don’t like iCloud hard to get photo out.

This video and your mouse keyboard video answered every question I had. Thank you so much! I’m going to do some version of this for my mom to replace her computer and old iPad at the same time. She only needs a keyboard and mouse and the ability to transfer some files and pictures sometimes. This is definitely the ideal solution for her needs. An iPad 8th gen to go and a computer station to be a little more productive sometimes.

I just bought one of these Lightning to USB3 adapters and was kinda bummed to see it didn't recognize my external SSD. I resorted to using my USB sticks, but now I feel dumb because it makes so much sense that all it needed was a bit more juice! I used my USB hub with an additional 5v power input and it works like a charm!! I confirmed that was the case when I disconnected the 5V power from the hub and my iPhone stopped recognizing the SSD. Thanks a ton man, definitely subscribing!

Hi Tao, thanks for this video. My use case is similar with a newly acquired 10.5” 2017 iPad Pro with lightning port. I wanted to avoid having too many adaptors and dongles, and try to integrate a usb c hub like you used at the end, as it can come in handy if/when I get a MacBook Pro down the line. I mainly wanted to connect my usb microphone for voice recordings, so I need to plug it into a powered hub, then into lightning adaptor as you demoed near the end with the Anker. I’m glad I watched till the end to see that set up, I may try that as I also like Anker products and be relatively future proof with a usb c hub. Oh, lastly a question, with that Anker usb c hub, if that were used with a newer gen iPad Pro that also uses usb c, would the powered hub also have bypass power to power the iPad? Hello,I bough recently the usb camera adapter from Apple so I could use for videos and songs transfer from my iPad to a usb flash drive. It works perfectly but when I connect my usb to my car so I could listen or watch those files , I see that every file I transferred is duplicated. One file is ok,playable but the second one is not supported. When I connect the usb back to my iPad I see only the one file. How can I stop this ? How to stop my iPad from duplicating the files?

Does the ethernet on the USB c hub work?

My lightning usb does not connect my cannon g10 or my Nikon p950 I followed your instructions from the video and still no success. Just checked Amazon AU. The only similar adapters are USB c and not lightning. Also, looking again, the link you shared from Amazon UK will not ship to Australia :-( I wonder if I bought a USB c adapter and one of those lightning to usb c plugs that you were using, do you think it would still work?

@wong qianyaw Hi, I have not tried the adapter yet. But it will most likely not work. I will most likely only support charging not syncing, because of MFI issue and completely different pin outs on both adapters.

Here is what I want to do connect that with my hp dock g5 which has a USB C out for all my devices connected using USB A and HDMI etc. Can you test this for me connect with the above adaptor Lightning --> USB A female --> USB A male --> USB C female --> Connect any USB C male(for my case it is my HP dock G5).. If the above works I do not have to buy another set up as a docking station for using my Ipad for a full desktop set up. Thanks DT

@S P 1. USB-C port on the hub is for PD input only( power delivery charging) 2. Lightning to usb3 adapter and Anker hub need to be used together, and hub needs power input(that is what the PD input port for) So, the answer to your original question is NO. Hope this is clear.

I would like to fly my Mavic Air 2 with an iphone and Avegant Glyph (hdmi) goggles. Is it possible? I have been asking people for weeks but no one has replied. I think you are the one who knows. The Mavic controller connects with a usb C to the iphone, Could I just plug a hub into the iphone and run the controller and the goggles?

@ gareth5000 Sadly NO. When the controller is plugged in, the lightning port(on your phone) is used for controller. When the Avegant Glyp plugged in with HDMI to lightning adapter( the adapter has to be powered), then lightning port is used for goggle. So, ONE thing at a time. A hub will not work, because the USB port on the Apple Lightning to USB3 adapter does not support video out. Important: the extra lightning port on the adapter is for charging only. @Richard Sacher For power hungry devices ie hard drives, be sure to use a power usb hub or it won't work. For less power hungry devices, ie usb, mouse, ethernet adapters, be sure the adapter is powered. Hope this is clear.

Awesome content man! I picked up the first 12.9" iPad Pro back in 2015 and it's been so cool seeing it evolve over time. Finally ordered myself the USB 3 adapter to see if I can record multi track drums onto the iPad and to play with some midi keyboards. I'm also looking at picking up the Yamaha BT01 to send wireless midi to the iPad. Your videos have been really helpful! Excited to see iPad OS 14 on my iPad soon!

@ adeel zafar It would be difficult to determine. It will also depends on what kind of media you want to transfer to, HDD? SSD? USB sticks, usb3.0? usb2.0? In a nuts shell, if you want to faster transfer, then external SSD is your best choice. Hope this helps.

@adeel zafar Here is the test. Test result between USB3 stick and external HDD both connected to powered USB3 hub. Transfer file size 549MB, time measure in MM:SS. iPad=>HDD "01:38"(~5.6MB/S) ; iPad=>USB STICK "04:04"(~2.25MB/S) ; USB=>HDD "00:51"(~10MB/S).

Hi Tao, do you know if it's neccesary to use a Lightning to USB adapter in order to access to a pendrive? Today I tried to make a Lightning to USB female adapter and I couldn't make it work. For that, I cut an old Lightning to USB cable to get the Lightning port and then I attached it to a USB female. I think that if I cut the Lightning port from a Lightning to USB C cable I could probably make it work, because I think that the Lightning to USB C cables have the same MFi certification as the Lightning to USB adapter, which allow the iPad to access to a pendrive, unlike the Lightning to USB cable I used which didn't let me. If you don't want to break a Lightning to USB C cable, you can use a USB C female to USB C female adapter. I would appreciate very much if you could answer to my question by making a video about this topic. The Lightning to USB adapter from Apple is very expensive and it would be awesome to have a Lightning to USB C hub without using any dongles. It requires a little bit of DIY, but I think that if it works, it will be an amazing project to be able to connect a pendrive to an iPad Air 2 without the Lightning to USB adapter from Apple. In case you don't want to cut many cables, you would one need to buy a USB C female to USB C female adapter and then connect a Lightning to USB C cable from one side, and a USB C hub from the other side. Maybe it's better to start this way in order to don't brake any cables, and then go all the way to have only one adapter. I like very much your experiments of connectivities. Tell me if you are going to make this experiment, to try it myself if not.

​@@TaoMStudio I'm extremely interested in this as well! I've thought about using the Lightning to USB3 adaptor going to a USB/HDMI/Ethernet powered USB hub. Then you could theoretically get HDMI output from an iPhone or iPad to a HDMI TV or monitor. I want to view my iPhone on my TV and use a USB device at the same time, such as a class compliant USB-C audio interface. I just purchased the MOTU M2 and already have the MOTU M4. I know both will work with a powered USB hub (5v minimum) connected to the Lightning to USB3 camera adapter that apple makes. What I have yet to try is a USB hub that has Ethernet and HDMI. Also, I wonder if you plugged the Lightning to USB3 camera adaptor into the the powered USB hub (with USB-C ports, then plug the USB-C AV multiport adaptor into that, would it work? If the powered hub includes Ethernet and HDMI already, we can certainly use the Ethernet out of the hub. Then we can try using the USB-C AV multiport adaptor into one of the USB-C ports of the hub. Maybe then, the HDMI would work, along with any devices plugged into the powered hub?

Rob I'm also looking for using same time USB drives and HDMI. If it works it will be so good. BTW can I use Lightening to USB 3 adapter for HDMI connection to external monitor. I don't want to pay twice for HDMI adapter and Usb adapter. They are expensive from apple.
