Ғылым және технология
Lightning strikes the Gateway Arch twice during a storm on August 27.
1.) Direct cloud-to-ground strike to the Arch at close range with loud thunder.
2.) Still frame
3.) An upward lightning leader/streamer connects to the Arch in response to a close cloud-to-ground strike.
4.) Still frame
5,6.) More lightning with the Arch

From that angle, it looks like the arch is located in the middle of nowhere.

The tram that takes you to the top is more frightening than a lightning strike.

Well, everyone in the Elevators is going to panic about being stuck because of "power outages"!!! LOL
Congrats Dan! Great capture. It's also interesting to see how the light reflects off the arch in the 2nd strike.
To anyone who thinks this is dangerous it's not. The arch has lightning rods, which will deflect any lightning harmlessly to the ground so nobody gets hurt.

@@tstryker03 nope. Electricity is lazy. Always takes path of least resistance. Glass is an insulator or one of the paths of greatest resistance,
Imagine being inside when that happens

If you are in the arch when lightning strikes it wont kill you. The metal creates a 'Faraday Cage' around you so the bolt grounds itself into the earth.
Wow i never seen this i always wondered what would happen

I just now remembered Dan that while I was in Branson in 2018, I experienced a severe thunderstorm warning while I was riding with my parents and my sister in the car. My sister was, I think, 9 years old and it was I think probably her first severe thunderstorm. While we were there in Branson and while we were heading back to the motel that a motel room that we rented for a week and while we were in Branson we went to Silver Dollar City and what not and my dad rode the new time travel ride at the time. Get it? Because it's time travel. Anyways, that was a tragic event. I have been really anxious about going back to Silver Dollar City since the illegal coronavirus pandemic. And on the 22nd of May, 2019, there was a severe thunderstorm which produced an EF5 tornado, which severely damaged most of Central Missouri, including the Woods grocery store here in Eldon, and it freaked me out because it was a very deadly store.
0:16 TO BE CONTINUED
Fortunately no tragedy and no visitors inside the top for city view

I've seen better lighting in a Frankenstein movie. Really? A tornado wouldn't take down the arch. Build to last, baby!
