Lightning rod needs to be completely revamped, like closed for a season or two, or maybe three, redo track work, new trains, new launch system EVERYTHING, this coaster has so much potential( it shut down while i was waiting in line and I’m furious)

They’ve already retracked a lot of it and there really isn’t a new launch system they could use on it and new trains are wouldn’t make since to have it’s been running alot more consistently since the retrack

We went to Dollywood 3 times in one month and not 1 time was it open. They need to tear the whole thing down and start over

@Kentuckian Coasters yh the launch system was never the problem. The real Issue has always been the track. LSM launches require the trains not shaking or the track to not sway. Shaking and Swaying cases the train to not properly match up with the launch pins and Woodies are know for swaying and shaking. That's why Wooden Rollercoasters don't have any launch system whatsoever.

I would not be surprised that this would be the first RMC to get the axe in the coming years or less. It's a shame because this is a really popular ride but with all of it's maintenance problems and design flaws I don't think the park would want to invest any more money to fix something so problematic every week it seems like.

This is my all time second favorite roller coaster, so it better NOT get axed!

I’m certain they don’t have to go into pocket for it to get fixed every time. Undoubtedly there is a warranty. Parks wouldn’t spend tens of millions on a single project without there being stipulations of the manufacturer fixing problems that are are in their end. Plus, I doubt RMC designed and manufactured the LMS system, probably some other company.

@@TinkerTailorSoldier1 velocity magnetics where the manufacturer for the LSM system. Normally they build braking systems for coasters. But have never manufactured a launch system until Lightning Rod. Fortunately RMC doesn't work with velocity anymore when it comes to their projects because they manufacture practically every single part of their coasters now, the last time they would work with velocity magnetics would be in 2018 after Steel Vengeance was made and that roller coaster became problematic as well especially with the brake systems failing and not handling the weight of the train's which caused an accident on opening day. Luckily nobody was injured.

Nah, I don’t think it will get the axe. I think they will just try and find a more reliable launch system.

Buzz Saw Falls over at Silver Dollar City got a 25mil upgrade and became Powder Keg. With its own “issues”…but HFA has done a ton to upgrade and keep it going. I expect no less for this one. It already got almost a complete retrack. It’s here to stay. Just be thankful HFA is in charge or it would be Axed. They know what their customers want!

I’ve seen two of those when I was in line for it. I got super lucky because I was on the first train after the ride reopened, and after I got out of the station after my ride the fire alarm sounded, and the building was evacuated. I’m pretty sure it just sounded because of the launch system, there was no actual fire and the ride reopened about an hour later.

i dont think people realize LR relaunches when it rolls back and doesnt evac lol. I got a rollback last year, the train comes to a stop towards the bottom of the launch track, they propel it backwards just enough to have it coast back forward into the fins, and then it launches like normal.

This RMC hybrid roller coaster certainly won’t last for long after so many issues, and that wooden roller coasters in general just can’t handle the launched system very well and that they’ve been intended for the standard lift hill. The launched system has always been intended for steel roller coasters. All this down time is eating Herschend’s wallet and that in the next few or so years, they will surrender on the maintenance for this particular roller coaster.

The issue with LROD is the launch. You CANNOT have a very sensitive launching system on a swaying wooden structure. The solution is to tear down the entire lift structure and replace the structure with steel. Hopefully they do this soon enough so LROD can be ridden by everybody who wants to ride

I will say though… can we stop calling Lighting Rod a “launch”? It’s a magnetic lift hill, let’s be honest, there’s nothing “launch” about it.

Stroke of luck? That piece of junk is always rolling back or shut down full stop. A stroke of luck would be it actualy working properly.
