It is true tho the things on top is lightning rods maybe attract lightning i went to the tower and saw a poster of willis tower gets lightning

I live 18 miles from here and I was video taping the lightening and the tornado sirens went off and I kept video taping....and I have 4 videos up...I might go add my slow motion video...last night was the worst it can get.

It can, and it often does. Keep in mind that lightning will generally strike the tallest structure in a given area.

My Name Is AJAY somtimes it is true but since its striking twice the explainstion for this means that it a very tall building or it has lots of metal or stuff that attracts lighting in prety sure the power went off once or twice lol

Man!! I was out on a ridge 5 hrs. North West during this storm pass trying to get some good shots of Lightning with a new Panasonic W850 in slow mo and night vision. Got some cloud to cloud and was hoping. But this is takes the cake and was awesome.

Was that Thor wielding his Mjolnir on top of that building?

I was downtown working at the parking garage when I see the lighting WOW 👏 😍 😳 IT was Awesome

Awesome Shots. The North side was spared the devastation that much of the area experienced. We had water in our basement but we handled it, no damage actually. Out side the same, garden will bounce back, no trees down.

This tall buildings have a Wire like structure on top which is specifically made to Attract the lighting ...safely ...and convert it into Electricity ..that's why its repeatedly striking there

I live in Chicago & I have never seen the Willis Tower been struck by lightning in 2014 since I lived somewhere else dat year but I hope I get a chance of seeing that

Someday i want to go there skydeck chicago illinois...

And people say lightning can never strike the same place twice

If you look closely, while you see the lighting in the air you also see a spark of lighting spark up the sears tower, this is actually how lighting strikes occur, so technically @SummerRain's statement about the sears tower making the lighting is kinda true but it's not.

Wow amazing! The heavens must of been pretty angry!

I went to Chicago on that day, my plane flew through that thunderstorm.

These buildings are designed to take lightning strikes. Almost any commercial building has lightning rods so that the actual building is not damaged

Lightning strikes anywhere. The Vatican is no exception. I'm Catholic, but to me, the Vatican is no more sacred than a railroad yard. If God created the Earth, then every piece of it is sacred. Too bad humanity doesn't treat it like it is.
