Brightness is great, and color is wonderful (bluer in pics than in real life) but stripping the gum to reveal the connector points is a pain. also had to connect to the bottom of the strip sometimes and had to rub the adhesive off of that which was also annoying. but the "5050" ratio is definitely the way to go.

"Connect the power to the cable, and then screw on your other cable" NO!, never, I mean NEVER, screw cables together or mess with open wires connected directly to the outlet. Even with switches on 'off'. 1st thing you learn as an Electrical Engineer.

So after seeing your video with the dam diorama for the Decepticons, I was thinking what a great job you did but you felt it was lacking somewhat and basically, all it needed was some good lighting to complement it. Your set-up with the Autobots in front of the ark and the one on a highway with the XTransbots stunticons (I think) really look amazing. They really look like theatre pieces.

Just did this to my billys except I used 8 puck LEDs facing down on the top and mid shelf(4 pucks each) and replaced the other shelves with glass so the light passes down each level. I think the lighting is more appealing coming down from the tops of models, but could be personal preference.

I love these types of projects. It is always fun watching them come together. That said, anyone have any ideas on how to replace light piping with LEDs? I've been looking into trying to hook up my CHUG figures that have light piping with LEDs, but I haven't really been able to find any tutorials or any real guide of any kind thus far. I have no clue what type of battery pack to use, what type of ideal LEDs to use (too bright vs. too dim), or the best way to place them (trying to place hardware in the head vs. mounting in body cavities and running wire while not hampering transformations). I currently have lighting to accentuate the light piping, but after seeing some of the light kits out there for third party figures, I really like the idea of having dedicated lights rather than having to rely on an external light source for the piping to do its thing.

Only thing I would suggest besides not electrocuting yourself is to not use a knife for removing the plastic cover on top of the LED strip. It's too easy to accidentally cut through the LED strip circuit and hose your light segment. I peel them back from the end and snip off the plastic cover with scissors.

I don't know if we will ever hear Bobby say butt-connectors this much again. It might be just me but I was getting a little nervous watching you handle tools. But end results are nice. I will agree proper lighting is needed for our displays. I've considered using like mini spot lights both on the top and bottom of the shelves to try and avoid the top down lighting effect which gives those bottom shadows. A nicely informative video though.

How well does the Billy work on carpet is it wobbly like some of the crappy target ones I bought. Also did you screw yours into the wall? Is this necessary or ikea trying to prevent parents for blaming them for kids being kids.

Where can I get a color changing led light bar that doesn't use wires but instead has a built in battery? (with a remote). I ask since I don't want to drill into the real wood barrister bookcase and the doors on the front prevent running wires. I'm limited to putting it on top of the front door on the inside trim and I need it to be small so not to bump things as it slides back into the shelf. Right now I'm using puck lights on the bottom of the shelf but that angle creates a lot of shadows and its still hard to see figures well.
