Lifted Toyota Front Suspension Upgrade, Fixing Dangerous Weak Points

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Fixing big weak points in the independent front suspension of 4Runners, FJ Cruisers, and Tacomas. We're going to show you what they are, and how we're going to fix those problems, on our 4Runner. These are important upgrades
for lifted toyotas.
This is a breakdown of what parts we'll be using:
New spindle to replace the one Merri bent, OEM
Spindle gussets so it doesn't happen again: Total Chaos that allows for the swaybar, from ToyTec Lifts. www.toyteclifts.com/
Cam tab gussets; because they're weak and we've got a couple that are bent, Total Chaos from ToyTec Lifts. www.toyteclifts.com/
Lower control arms: Dirt King, *much stronger, *sealed HD ball joint that's easily replaceable, *greaseable and won't squeak like other popular joints, *greaseable inner bushings, and *built-in aluminum skid plates. dirtkingfabrication.com/
Cambolts and washers: SPC from ToyTec, because new ones never hurt. www.toyteclifts.com/
Swaybar Links: the newest version from Overland Custom Design. closest we've seen to OEM joints but with a much stronger stem. overlandcustomdesign.com/
Little stuff: new bearing seals, zinc primer to prevent rust on spindles and frame until welding is done, 14 & 12mm bolts and nuts for holding gussets on spindles while fitting and welding, Wheel spacers, 1 1/4" Spidertrax, To clear spindle gussets with stock wheels. We'll get new rims with proper back spacing later.

    I worked at a shop in Utah where we did work on vehicles used from camping to MOAB Rock Crawlers. As a result, my experience with the use of wheel "spacers" is 50/50 because some vehicles experienced premature wear to their wheel bearings while other vehicles did not. I suspect this wear was due to two things, the quality or lack thereof of the wheel bearings and the vehicles' GVW (gross vehicle weight). That's all I can think of as o why the bearings failed. Did you have premature wear of your wheel bearings? BTW, I just purchased a 2008 4Runner that I will be playing with and I am a NEW SUBSCRIBER! Great Channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    great to see you guys again...it's been awhile! I have been running without a front swaybar on my 4runner for a few years now. it definitely is an acquired feel and not for everyone. I look forward to your reviews of these products!

    Can't wait to new updates to the 4runner! I've been thinking of getting aftermarket lower control arms as well to increase ground clearance a tad bit on my FJ cruiser as well.

    I’m wondering, from what lift height would you recommend to drop the front differential?

  • @WanderlostOverland

    @WanderlostOverland

    I'm assuming you mean the typical "diff drop kit" that a lot of people use. This kit only drops the front of the diff, lowering it at an angle. These are for the normal 3" lift in the front. Our advice; if you have the kit put it on, won't hurt anything. We're not totally convinced that they do any good however.

    1. Make sure your tires are properly balanced, if they are then: 2. Since you have replaced all of your brake components start THOROUGHLY checking ALL of your STEERING components.
