    I live full time in my van and need a reliable power supply. Its ironic that the BMS is the one thing that's stopping me switching from AGM to Lithium. I know many people who have lost total power because the BMS has sensed some kind of problem. No warning, no understanding what's happened, just total loss of power. The BMS should send a warning before it just shuts down. Having the risk of a total power failure in my van is not an option.

    Hi I need your opinion. I have the same volt and ah bms but it is not written lifepo4 on it. Nevertheless i tried to use it and if I measure the lifepo4 cells have without bms 12 volts...but if i measure with bms the value shown is 8.6 volt... Bms is damaged? Thanks in advance!

    Have you ever tested the overvoltage cut off threshold of the bms while charging with an mppt CC? ....after being disconnected from the battery by the bms i guess it will ride at the pv ocv...will this high ocv damage the bms at reconnect point??

    I noticed my 100A bms does not protect my battery from overcharging coming from a 600watt panel (4 units of 150watt). 100Amps bms cells now have big belly (cc is a must from now on, BMS doesnt have all the basic covered)

    How do you choose the correct BMS amp rating for the battery you intend to build? Is the rating based on how many amps you expect to draw as a maximum or is it determined by the constant and/or maximum current discharge rate of the cells?

  • @SolarPowerChannelwithChris

    @SolarPowerChannelwithChris

    3 жыл бұрын

    Your not the only one to ask this. I must do a video on it! It's the maximum amount of amps you expect to draw. For an example for a 4s LiFePO4 running a 1kw inverter 240v I would use a 100 or 120amp BMS. By also taking into account the efficiency of the inverter to. Use this website to punch number in to give you an answer. www.rapidtables.com/calc/electric/Watt_to_Amp_Calculator.html If you up your battery volts 12v to 24v, it will lower your amp draw off the battery. This will increase the life of your batteries. What we call C rating, rate of discharge.

    @@SolarPowerChannelwithChris - Great videos and great answers! Are there any disadvantage in oversizing the BMS? Other than price when buying? I have a system, where I expect to draw 800W max - but if I use a air fryer in my van, it will draw 2kW So if not using a fryer - I could go with 75A But if using the fryer I need approx 175

    @@MartinRaz1 Yes that's right. No need getting a 200amp BMS if your not pulling them numbers, waste of money. Always take into account the losses in inverter and system. I have found a 800watt inverter can pull nearly 100amps still.

    I have 4 200Ah LifePo4 cells connected up as a 12V supply. I use a daly 100Amps BMS and works really well. I never draw more than 50Amps at any one time. It has never gotten warm whilst in use but then again, I mainly use it to power routers, soldering iron, phones, laptops and small electronic. I also use it with a 1500 pure sine wave inverter. Provided you are not drawing a large amount of current continuously, you should be grand.

  • @SolarPowerChannelwithChris

    Yes and no, it's to do with stressing the cells. You can dramatically reduce a LiFePO4 cell charging at that voltage to full capacity. There are scientific papers showing a big drop in cycle life. It's hard when making a video, I can go off on one chatting and people switch off. So I try not go off topic to much.
