Daisy is so lucky to have Oreo. That will make a big difference fast. Retrievers are ultra-bright, so you have a wonderful ride with Daisy.
I got my Golden puppy when he was 10 weeks. He used the puppy pads to pee and never pooped in the house ever. He was dog door trained by 14 weeks and completely housed trained at about 17 weeks. Never once had an accident after that. He just turned 3. He is the most fun dog I have ever owned. He just LOVES to be with me. Every morning he climbs on the bed and waits for me to wake up. His dog clock is perfect. He never wakes me up early. He is SO smart! My other two dogs love to play with him. I suggest taking a lot of pictures because they grow so fast.

I found that using wee pads prolongs the house training cuz what ur teaching them is to pee/poop in the house. I found just putting them outside as much as possible (especially after meals or snacks) is the fastest and easiest even as exhausting as it can be. lol After the second puppy, a doggy door definitely saves a lot of accidents, I agree. 😁

I potty trained my retriever pup in 3 days.. just keep her in ur vision.. when the nose goes down u need to get them outside.. after 2-3 days they will walk to the door and indicate they need to go out and pee.. job done.. U still need to notice them walking to the door thouhg or else they are still doing it behind the couch and they dont learn then. Letting go of stuff is also very important.. and staying.. more important then paw..

The two dogs are adorable together, true friends
Also consider time, patience and money before owning a pet! It’s expensive to own a pet, vet bills, food, training and boarding if you have to go on a trip! Consider and think hard before getting a pet! It’s a commitment and they are family!

All true. Very difficult to raise Golden Retriever pup. We have 10 weeks little Cooper boy he is a handful. He is so smart belive me he would tricked us he need to go potty( outside) really he just want to be outside. Yes it gets better in time. He now let us know when he need to go potty thank god. It was a nightmare for 2 weeks. There are 3 of us we swing shifts to care for him. He got sick with diarrhea we have to swtiched his wet food he get sick with kibble. We have to supplement pumpkin puree for dogs he is getting better still a battle. Hopefully he will grow out of pups once he is an adult like people said. Fyi be prepare 24/7 two eyes on them and yes routine is IMPORTANT with Goldie pups.

This is true. I got my first dog, Oreo, as a puppy and the first two years were very difficult. But now, he is a very sweet, well behaved boy. I’m glad I waited a while and learned everything I needed to with my first dog before getting another puppy
When our family had puppies, the biggest problem we had was teaching them not to eat everthibg they saw. Yes, you do have to take them outside frequently like every two hours to ppotty train them. It helps establish a routine, and prevents accidents in the house.

I got my Collie puppy when he was nine weeks old and in the beginning, it was a challenge. He chewed on everything, even the wee wee pads! He was full of energy and curious about everything. But we loved him. He had a great personality and temperament. He didn’t really settle down until he was two years old! For eleven years he brought us nothing but pleasure. Cherish the moments with your puppy. They grow up so quickly and provide great memories.

It is so fun to watch this and think back to those days with our puppies! We have 2 Golden Retrievers that are now 3 years old- you are right it was exhausting! It was like a full time job potty training them ( our girl pup learned much faster then our boy pup). Dogs are very tolerant of new puppies. Some check the puppy out and then proceed to ignore them as much as possible, though puppies usually make that pretty difficult. Then there is the dog that falls head over heels in love with the puppy. Our female golden, Zoey, fell in love with our baby pug mix. She raised that puppy like it was her own. The puglet is now 3 and they are inseparable. 🥰

That is sooooo cutttteeeee!!
i just returned my adopted puppy. I have a 2.5 yr old border/GSP, she kinda snapped at the puppy the first hour, so i kept them separated…plus the puppy’s kennel cough was getting worse, i didn’t want my older dog to get sick. so she was in a giant crate inside and outside with a wire play area attached… but i realized she wasn’t the breed they said, she was going to be much larger, and i realized i’d made a decision based on emotion. i just took her a few hours ago, i can’t stop crying…i miss her, but i know at my age i’m not able to do all the puppy training again. i thought i could, but i immediately missed coffee and sitting in my garden, i just came through the puppy training with the 2.5 yr old, plus last spring and summer i spent so much time moving my parents, packing up their house getting rid of things and finally selling the house. i had no business bringing in a puppy. last night i knew we were taking her back, i slept with her in the play pen, she cuddled with me all night, but that’s not realistic either… my husband leaves town tomorrow for a week and i knew i couldn’t do it and be the owner she deserves…at least she got out of the shelter, spent time in the sunshine, had fun playing toys…i know at 3 months old she’s probably already forgot about me… i’m crushed, but feel it was the right thing to do for her.

Well done. Pretty accurate. Definitely a huge time sink…but hard to quantify how much love they (pups/dogs) give back over time. IMO, well worth it for anybody that truly loves animals…Oh, and dogs are pack animals. It;s in their DNA…so have another dog, or two, in the family will help the older dog, as well.

Goldens are the kindest companions
I'm on my second purebred Golden and both have been perfect companions. There are two things I did that I think make a crucial difference. First is crate training and I see you have a puppy crate. You really should *always* put the puppy in her crate when you aren't able to watch her 100% of her movements. Sleeping as a baby hould always be in-crate. Her life for now should consist of you carrying her outside from her crate directly to outside to do her business, and then immediately inside to play or train or eat or drink (now that bladder and bowel are empty; no mistakes). Puppy feet do not touch inside floors until bladder & bowels are empty. And as she gets tired and starts looking for places to see and mischief to get in, back to the crate. The second thing was to always put my pup on his leash and clip the people-end of the leash to my belt, so the pup can't sneak out of my eyesight, so I learned every nuance of his movements and nonverbal communication; set up for success. Don't know if this made a difference, but no playing with anything that belongs to others (shoes, socks etc). And sometimes random snacks, like rawhide or pigs ears that are essentially food requiring work to consume/destroy. I feel the dog learns that what I give belongs to the pup and can be used as the pup desires (can be destroyed) and they learn that everything else is not theirs and not a toy (no destruction). And as a result, my adult Golden can be left home alone in a messy house and upon return, everything is as I left it. No messes, no potty mistakes, very rarely any puke, since eating foreign objects has been not-learned.

These things do make a difference and thank you for the tips, hopefully other people see this. I did this with my first dog as a puppy and I do it with Daisy as well. In the update video coming out tomorrow, you’ll see many of the clips she’s on leash so that she can be watched

Better prep before bringing puppy home. *** Get chew toys before puppy arrives. Didn’t breeder potty train their pups? One new dog is enough but already having 2 other pets just tripled your work. Read a puppy care book before you bring one into your home everyone ! Get a good handle on all the work you must do daily.

She's doing great. Always a bit nervous about cats scratching a puppy's eyes if provoked. Have you got an old playpen to drop the puppy in when you need a break?
@GraceDeGrace
Ай бұрын
Our cat grew up with Oreo so she's learned not take her claws out. Still when Cat and puppy are together, they are closely supervised. When we need a break, we put puppy in her harness and attach it to a long leash so she still has space to roam and play while being confined. When my first dog was a puppy, he would always find a way out of play pens so a leash worked better.
My golden chewed a hole in the wall at around 3 months. So yes, be ready for some damage. I also rate the experience 10/10 would do again.
