Thank you for sharing your story. I was having shortness of breath after removing my appendix in 2017 but could never find the issue. I went to a pulmonologist, cardiologist and GI. Finally 5 years later and my pulmonologist look at my x ray again and doing the SNIFF test, I finally was diagnosed with a paralyzed diaphragm. My right side is the one not working properly. I came here looking for other people experiencing the same issues as me. Your video gives me hope to go ahead and get the surgery done!

I had surgery for my phrenic nerve in July 2022. Right phrenic nerve decompression and reconstruction. I'm a 63 year old retired RN. I feel that Dr. Kaufman saved my life.

Did you or do you have any numbness or loss of function from the removal of the nerve from your leg?

Liana, thank you so much for your story. Our paths have many similarities. My right phrenic nerve stopped working after someone rear-ended me in 2016. In 2019 I went to New Jersey for Dr. K's surgery. Early this year (2021) I had the sniff test and nerve study (I call it the cattle prod study) done and we learned that the nerve is conducting, so the surgery worked, but that the diaphragm is still frozen. Next week I have another consult with Dr. Kaufman where I think we will be talking about a diaphragmatic pacemaker. Was that a painful process for you? Was the reactivation of the diaphragm in the months after painful? Thanks for your story, you give me hope

Hello Liana, Thank you for sharing your experience. I was wondering if i can reach out to you. I am having symptoms but don't know if they are associated with my paralyzed diaphragm and since you are living this experience, my hopes are I can cross reference my symptoms with yours or vica versa. I am so happy to hear that you are making progress and doing better. Thank you for reading.

I noticed improvement at the moment I wake up in recovery room and feel much better, but have some difficulties if I go over the limits, like running. After one year of my surgery Dr. Kaufman prescribed the same test prior of my surgery and the results shows a delay of movement of the diaphragm. When compare one side of the diaphragm to the other side. My personal opinion is that even with this problem still much better than before the surgery. I still remember when was unable the sleep at nights in any positions and many time tray to sleep on a recliner chair. I highly recommend the surgery with Dr. Kaufman and God bless everybody experience this condition.

I just recently been told I possibly have a paralyzed diaphragm. I need to do more tests to see exactly what’s going on. Of course I am heck of nervous. I’m pretty active and this has definitely slowed me down.

I might have a diaphragm paralysis, its hard for me to breathe even when I lay down and try to sleep its the worst. I can barely sleep cause of my breathing issue. When you had diaphragm paralysis did it cause you not to sleep because you couldn't breathe properly?

You definitely need to get this checked. There are other conditions which can cause the symptoms you are describing. I urge you to speak with your primary care doctor. Please dont dismiss this. I am sorry you are faced with this health concern. Wishing you the best.

I had a phrenic nerve paralysis. Just happened out the blue. It took a year to diagnose and met a spectacular surgeon. He did a robotic plication. After the operation I felt my breathing went worse. But now it's a lot better! I wasn't in the same position as you as it seemed like my whole nerve stopped working. I'm a lot better now.
