Life-Saving Lower League Tactics

I have ventured farther into the lower leagues than I ever have before, the bottom of the English pyramid, and I have refined my lower leagues system to absolutely wreck the lower leagues with brute force. Football Manager has never seen so many big meaty men. I have long had a tactical philosophy for lower league management in FM, but this has turned it all the way up to 11.
If you are still reading this far and have never tried a lower league, semi-pro, or amateur save in Football Manager I absolutely implore you to do it. It is Football Manager storytelling in its purest form. You have a chance to elevate a club beyond its wildest dreams. What is the point of managin in FM if you can’t make a memory or two along the way.
Much Love,
FM Senpai

The Vanarama? Pfft, that’s the champions league compared to my save in Upper North West Regional Division P where my youth intake is the local primary school and my assistant manager is a chip van.

I'm playing a game with AFC Telford. It's going well, but the biggest problem with most tactics people play is that they're all max intensity and lower league teams just don't have the squad depth/fitness to handle that.

Lower league tactics don't always look like this 😩. I've been using a treq, libero, SV and regista and managed to over perform in the 9th tier of England 🤘

For Tactical Familiarity I would think playing 42 matches in the league and another 18 or so across various cups in the real low leagues should be enough to get your players familiar with your Tactic. So the very limited number of training sessions available to these part-time/amateur teams and players I tend to leave to the staff to handle and make sure I’m not going to break the players with too much intensity and stuff.

A trick to get more training pre season as a semi pro team is wait until 3pm or later on a Saturday then schedual a friendly for Sunday. That way you get to train Saturday too. If you make the friendly before that you miss all training Saturday.

My 8th tier save with St Neots was going so well... Was expected to fight avoid relegation. By mid December I was top of the league, 5 points clear. I have no idea what happened and all of a sudden in 6 games I lost 3, drew 2 and won 1.

been using this tactic on FM21 (y'know, before defensive was cool) and can confirm it's really good (step 13 to championship).

Mark Beck , Darlington as targetman. This guy will get you to league 2 with 2 back to back promotions. 19 jump reach , 16 heading & 12 finishing. He's a (lower league) beast!

I kind of lucked into this same basic approach, but in a 4-4-2 to get out of the VNS with St. Albans in one season. Great breakdown. Cool to see why it worked!

Thing I do is overload my pre-season with 6 to 9 games to get them tactical familiar with what I want to see. Rest of the season we do some overall, quickness and set piece training. When we got 3 matches a week (I'm in tier 8 and still active in FA Cup (4th qualifying round, FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying round and Isthmian League Cup 1st round) we get a congested fixture list. Then I put in recovery training sessions (you need physio for it) followed by teamwork or team bonding session. So far it works we had 2 draws 11 wins cups and league combined before getting a first defeat of the season.
