Think we forget about the real goat Kingsley holgate

This episode made me realize how I miss people and shows that were so deeply knowledgeable, it seems like they used to really enjoy the environment, kind of stopping to smell the rose's concept. We all seem to just move through and around caring more about our tech and toys than the actual history/objects/life etc

I am watching this from Botswana, i am a Motswana and some of the information that you touched is new to me. This episode is a masterpiece. I loved it.

Over the years I must have watched tenfold videos about overlanding in the Kalahari and I learned more from this single one than from the greater part of all the others combined.

Thankyou Andrew, Mike is an amazing man, a wealth of knowledge for sure. I sat down for the whole 52.17 minutes of this video and I wished it kept going👍

Love your YT vids. In the 1990s I devoured Mike Main's books when they were recommended to me by a mutual friend Liz. My kind of books. I've only been into the Kalahari once, in an old Series 2 in 1975. Five of us plus a 200L drum of petrol in the back. It was a bit crowded - and unthinkable nowadays!

I love these videos they are so informative and interesting. Thank you Andrew for sharing and thanks to Mike.

Regarding the tics; the theory about them being drawn to gasses I would say is true. My father always used bring a few small pieces of dry ice along on our trips, which he would place on the ground under selected lunch tree, and that would draw the ticks like a magnet to the ice, leaving us tick free upon departure. Great vid Andrew, thank you again!

Fantastic Video Andrew…I see the Palin influence you refer to…This style of documentary is sadly lacking these days… The mood and connection are awesome…. I have been a fan since I bought one of your books in 2000… My wife and I have been to Kgalagadi 25 times together and now I eventually know where to look for a barking gecko 😅 Hoping to eventually get to Kubu soon.

In my book one of your top 3 Southern African videos. Yes, I am bias because I am from the Kalahari. Nevertheless, with Mike's support it is the best introduction to the Kalahari on video. Mike of course is a legend - I still have my original copy of the book "Visitors' guide to Botswana" authored by Mike with John & Sandra Fowkes [1987]. The only travel book I have ever owned on Botswana and I never ever really got lost in my travels there. By the way, I only got to visit the gorge at Kolonkwaneng in 2016 !! This must have been the 30th time that I have watched this video - still gets me where it pleases most. Once again, good show. Best for now.

If there is one takeaway from this episode it's that you look damn good in an 80 series! And with that you really should honour its return. Get one again now in 2024 and do something different on your channel instead of yet another troopy build. Myself and many are dying to see you with an 80 again!😊

Superb, highly instructive video. That's what I call content creation! It's just a shame that the image resolution is dated, but that's the only thing this video is lacking.

I remember this video from a few years back. Great film and story telling. How's Mike doing? Hope he's still exploring the Kalahari

3 year ago a new neighbour turned out to be a Brit who had moved to Botswana 30 year ago, but he had returned to England for Cancer Treatment .... During a chat about his many escapades in Africa I put him onto your Website and he later said he gained comfort from it during his convalescence.

Superb. Andrew at his absolute best. I’d become a Patreon again if I could be sure that the next video would be a wonderful journey and not another dreary Toyota build (I drive a Toyota).

it is a 105 with FZ engine.

What happened tp the old Rangey? It inspired me to buy my own.

I am highly allergic to those tampan ticks, the best weapon against them are chickens

Thanks, this is very interesting. Just one question, why aren't these stories downloadable on KZread? I usually use my night data allowance to download KZread videos onto my phone, which I then watch later in the day. Thanks Andrew 😁🙏🏻👍🏻

@@4xoverland Ok, I understand, but all your regular videos like builds and expeditions are downloadable, like 95% of all KZread videos, just not these storytelling ones. Is it because they were not made recently, but are old content, that were shot on different formats? No biggie, I can just watch them directly at night, or day. Was just curious about why they're that way🤔 Enjoy😁👍🏻

Ok, Google explains it like this: KZread's Terms of Service: KZread's terms explicitly state that users are not allowed to download content from the platform without the content creator's permission or unless KZread clearly provides a download button or link. Yep I have enjoyed watching your Documentaries for many years except the last couple because of the way you berate people for not becoming Patreons on your channel.
