In the autumn, the Finnish government closed all eight crossing points it shares with Russia, along a border of almost 1,400 kilometres. They will remain closed until at least mid-April.

The journalist's question about the protests of Russian dual citizens being some kind of problem indicates that the journalist doesn't quite understand the situation and focuses on issues other than the main ones. Russian dual citizens are freely allowed to protest in Finland and request free movement, contrary to Russia, where they would like to go as cheaply as possible. Unfortunately, free movement across the border would currently cause serious problems for Finland due to actions by Russian authorities. It is easy to get to Russia via other routes if one wishes. It is not a human right to take the shortest possible route to visit relatives. The right question should be, why don't Russian citizens living in Finland loudly say that Russia's attack is condemnable. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

Then they could work and live legally in Finland forever if they want , as graduates. Can I choose any country in the World, move there and live there for free for the rest of my life with no questions asked? If not, then why only some countries are required to accept everyone without any documents or anything. I suggest everyone looks up what the "international treaties" about asylum actually say. They only cover personal persecution. You have people who have lived years in Russia and now suddenly they're persecuted. Well if they're persecuted by Russians, then it's a problem between Russia and their native country. If they're persecuted by someone in their native country, then they're already safe in Russia. If they claim to be persecuted (personally) in both countries, then maybe they need to look in the mirror and find the problem staring back at them.

It is one thing to say or believe that all people have the right to asylum, it is another to have the funds and resources to be able to adequately provide that service. Overall the nordic countries are relatively small and lack the human resources available to provide good and proper services to those seeking asylum. In the absence of being able to provide those proper resources, many of the immigrants slip through the cracks and long term they, and their descendants, can become an even bigger problem on society and demand even more resources. This has happened in many of the countries where in the years after large waves of migration, crime rates go up. I know there are many who scream that is a racist claim, but the data in some of these countries back that up. There was a study done in Copenhagen about six or seven years ago that compared the crime rates and demographics of the defendants in criminal trials in Copenhagen from the year before the last major EU expansion in 2004, and 2016. There was a 400% increase in arrests made, and over 80% of the defendants in the criminal trials were immigrants from countries that were outside of the EU, or from countries added in 2004. It is not reasonable to expect any society to accept that. There needs to be a reconciliation between the idealist mindset that all people should be welcome, and the realism that the resources to do that are just not there.

Welcoming refugees as opposed to economic migrants is fine. So long as in doing so, you don't lose your own country's identity and culture. Many immigrants don't make an effort to integrate and repatriate as much money as possible to support families in their country of origin. So businesses in the country of asylum miss out on that spend. People in dysfunctional countries need to elect responsible public servants instead of relying on the developed world to prop up failed regimes. All this does is reward failure and remove the consequences that go along with failure. This Spanish guys arguments would carry more weight if the Spanish government wasn't continually infringing the rights of Gibraltar residents, while still maintaining Spain's own colonies in Africa! Two faced, much?

Finally people are beginning to see the importance of these identity questions for any society. What it took for even mainstream liberals to take matter seriously was the matter becoming weaponized by an unfriendly neighboring country, making it unarguably a national security problem. So called far right has of course always warned the rest of the political spectrum about the dangers of unchecked mass migration, but their objections have been attempted to silence by left-green political crowd and opportunists riding along with their bandwagon, by calling the objectors racists. Even the evidently bad outcome of mass immigration in Sweden has not been enough to change the ideological outlook, but novadays the perception has turned somewhat on its head even on the left so much that there is a real risk of losing political credibility if nothing is done to prevent the Russian organized migratory flow. It is quite difficult to maintain belief in social advantageousness of policy that is deliberately used as a weaponized loophole by a cynical state actor trying to ruin ones society by means short of war.
