Life Aboard... The USCSS Nostromo |

Ойын-сауық

[reupload]
Come aboard the USCSS Nostromo and wish yourself a very happy Alien Day!
Not every ship is equipped with laser cannons, nor is every ship built to house a thousand and one pyjama wearing do-gooders. No, sometimes, a spaceship is just a tin can with rockets on the back - crewed by grumbling, unhappy campers who are just in it for the money.
Yes, we’re entering the world of the space trucker. A no-nonsense world of rust, pipes and claustrophobia where the only thing keeping you going is the guy at your side, the beer in your hand and a cryo chamber that might just mean you’ll live forever if you don’t stop truckin’. In this world, humanity is on the technological decline as function overtakes innovation. As overalls and corporate sponsorship replaces fashion. But it can’t be all that bad, can it?
Let’s fire up the country rock, light up a cigarette and climb aboard.. the USCSS Nostromo.

Life Aboard is a series dedicated to examining what it would be like to live, work and serve aboard some of science fiction's most notorious spaceships. Forget the laser cannons, the made up technobabble and let's ask ourselves what the important questions are - how's breakfast, and where do I sleep?

For some reason, the fact the Nostromo's engines are built by Rolls Royce makes me very happy, especially since they apparently replaced the original Lockheed-Martin engines the ship was built with

The Nostromo, fully loaded, was considerably larger than the original Enterprise; and yet had an engineering staff of two men. I sure hope those guys got full shares, that's a lot of work.

Really hope you continue to make these types of vids and the algo shows ya to more ppl like me. The Red Dwarf was the first i watched and hadn't seen the source material at all and was still fascinated by that vid. What a great concept and vid series you have started. Hope you soon get the views i feel this type of vid would pull from a more re-known creator. Great work, keep it up mane.

I always wondered if there could be something to be said about the movie Alien and a commentary on companies that send workers into hazardous situations without a care for safety to increase profit. Or maybe it's just a movie about a killer space alien.

I love it the Nostromos and accompanying oil refinery is the best thing ever. It has a garage too And far away from anyone that would complain about mundane issues. Bring weapons and a 78 Ford Bronco And you got Heaven in heaven. Most excellent machine

@@paulhunter6742 I think the risk of brain damage far outstrips the risk of going mad through boredom. I’m half certain we see the crew of the Prometheus on some pretty strong nutritional supplements after prolonged sleep, which must help too

@@spacedoutgame More importantly, the risk of aging 50 years in the 50 years it takes to get there. Besides the waste of life, very few people would be willing to sign up, so Weyland-Yutani would have to spend a fortune on wages. As it is, you'd still essentially have to wave goodbye to everyone in your life before you set off. Like Ripley and whoever that little girl was (her daughter?) aging 60 years. Everyone you knew would be dead when you get back, unless they arrange some cryosleep too, which I bet isn't cheap. Then what about _their_ loved ones?

It could be worse. Have you ever played the game _Hardspace: Shipbreaker?_ In a nutshell: "We own _you,_ we own your DNA even if you retire or quit, and you owe us $1.2 billion plus $500,000 per day just for the privilege of working for us." (Having said that, you _can_ work off your debt; each ship is worth anywhere up to $30 million.)
