    Never owned a dishwasher. The one at work was forever blocking, leaking and getting dirty, which put me off. Id rather just do them by hand. And with the price of electricity now, probably cheaper

    Wow! I'm impressed with this. I sometimes feel it is faster to wash by hand, but other times at the end of the evening I just want to quickly be rid of the sight of the dishes so I shove them in the washer (dish washer, that is!)

    Oh absolutely this. I shove the dirty dishes straight in the dishwasher so I don't have to look at them piled next to the sink. If I were more organised i'd just wash the straight away but 9 times out of 10 I'm dashing out the door immediately after feeding the hoardsxx

    The Pork dish that you are going to do sounds interesting. I did a slow cooked Pork shoulder and put some marinade sauce on it last night it was lovely had it on crusty rolls with gravy. This morning, I put on a beef and mushroom casserole and what do 2 of my sons say Oh the slow cooker again!! well tough because the weather is getting cooler, and the slow cooker is my best friend. I use the dish washer 2-3 times a day.

    We have been shopping at Lidl in the past few months and I must say we are very happy with the quality of food and prices. We use these dishwasher tablets, too and they do a great job. We have a slimline dishwasher and we run it at least once a day during the week, usually twice a day at the weekends when I do most of the cooking (family of 4).

    Dishwasher the same, at least twice if not 3 times. I do see the difference though by using more expensive tablets. It pains me, the same as toilet roll and kitchen roll prices; but I do see a difference in the clean by using a higher end branded type xx

    I think you're right, there definitely is a difference in quality with the tablets but i'm loathe to buy an expensive brand because I might not be able to go back to the cheap ones! The Aldi ones (not the essentials ones) are pretty good xx

    Id say 2 to 3 times a day for your dishwasher isnt unreasonable. When everyone lived at home my dishwasher was on 2 to 3 times a day now I live alone its on once a day maybe twice if Im baking or meal preping. I buy my dishwasher tablets from Home Bargains 110 Finish tablets for something like £8.99 or £9.99. Love my dishwasher and will never be without one.

    We only use the dishwasher when we have guests over (for Sunday lunch, say) or if I’ve been doing some batch cooking. Replaced it just before Christmas as the old one died on us, but it’s nowhere near as efficient - another reason why we don’t use it much. Only two of us so I’d as soon wash up by hand.

  • @mumthings

    We run the dishwasher at least once a day. We're a family of 3 stay at home adults with varied diets so 3 different meals is typical. We're in the US and our new dishwasher holds more than the one that died in January. I also seem to remember that UK dishwashers are smaller. I can get a day's worth of dishes in mine.

  • @mumthings

    @mumthings

    It's brilliant how far appliances have come on in terms of capacity. When this dishwasher eventually dies I will replace it with a bigger one (it came with the house so I'm not complaining). We have a 9kg washing machine and when I'm visiting my mum her 6kg machine seems tiny in comparison! xx

    That pork looks great! Can't wait to see what you do with it. When hubby and I are home, the two of us run the dishwasher maybe once a week. At my father in law's house we run every other day. I am not a fan of dishwashers. It shrinks the tupperware and makes the dishes tap together no matter how carefully I load it. My husband will put non-stick pans in, and wooden spoons---arghhh!

    Our dishwasher sits on the worktop it’s tiny but very good. Like everything Japanese. Mum doesn’t like Lidl she said it’s no cheaper than Asda now. I went to a discount supermarket and went to town on cheap tofu!! Whoowhoo!!! Ohh we run it twice a day as we have a family of six but I do hand wash my large pots and pans. If that makes sense. And I don’t wash the babies bottles in the dishwasher neither.

I cook from scratch snd 3 meals a day for me and 2 for girls plus snacks coffees etc . I only put cutlery and plates doshes never ever saucepans etc tupperware because its as hany to steep them and fill the keetle wash them by hand immediately and that way the food does become caked on also the dish waher is freed up for dishes .
