I played "Where in the World" a lot on Amiga and strangely enough, it came in a legit Broderbund compilation (or pack sold with the computer) but without the encyclopedia book... And funny enough, after a lot of frustration from not being able to pass the copy protection after the first mission(s), my brother and I discovered that opening one of the game files into a text editor gave us all the copy protection questions and answers. We felt like real hackers back then. Good times.

It's the "set temporal distance" method of time travel. Example: You travel 500 years into the past and from there 500 years into the future. A minute on either side moves the "500 years mark" that minute forward. So, you always come back to "the present" at a time shift equal to the time you spent in the other era. The portal always moves you the same time-distance whenever entered. Like covering a mile, but the mile might end up differently if you start in a different spot.

I was playing this game again about a week ago (I was in a "Carmen Sandiego Marathon", so to speak...) and I actually searched a review of it on your channel. It's nice that now there is one. I love educational games and this is, in my opinion, one of the best (along with Oregon Trail). I actually improved my history and geography knowledge a lot by playing it again (as a kid, I just wanted to arrest the crooks and didn't care about the "learning" part, I would forget everything I read in one day, but now I was somehow more interested in learning, I've read a lot of Wikipedia articles this time lol). And yes, the game show opening song is VERY catchy. There's a high quality version of it included in the "Great Chase Through Time" CD (I can upload it if anyone is interested) but unfortunately it is a short version (1 minute long), not the full one.

I watched the show and played the '97 version. Really cool to see the 80s one! Fun note, the 97 CD ROM would play the theme song in a CD player.

I remember playing the original Carman Sandiego game on a C64 back in the mid 80s when I was a kid. I half to track down the C64 version and refresh my memory on my RetroPi machine.

This is nostalgic, before anyone I knew had a computer we got to play a lot of Where In Time at my old Primary school since it was educational. Much better than class. Clint you don't do retro game reviews or game retrospectives that often lately and I miss that, so thanks for this it was a good watch.

Such memories of being 4 years old playing this game, always fond to look back on @LGR If you've ever played Ecoquest or Pepper's Adventures in Time, they're both fun point-and-clicks by Sierra with an Edutainment flair with an Eco-message for the former and History for the latter. These were great fun in my early years! And of course any Super Solver game is wonderful! Gizmos and Gadgets was always my favorite, but I played them all growing up! Would love to see more of those if you ever get the chance

I never had the opportunity to play any of the Carmen Sandiego games in color when they were still considered new-ish. We had an Apple II with a monochrome green monitor. I barely even knew games like Carmen Sandiego or Oregon Trail could be played in color till much later but still didn't feel like I missed much.

This game was great and never got boring as the cases where always something different to do, much more fun than just clicking answers or typing stuff in (comparing to other games of the time).

I played the 1997 version of this game, "Carmen Sandiego's Great Chase through Time," as a fourth grader almost 18 years ago. It was one of the most fun games I've ever played in my life, and I learned so much about world histories that were not covered in my school's curriculum, in particular East Asian history. I think they should reboot it, it's just a fun game in general that kids of all generations would enjoy
