I feel like the biggest problem with the Sims nowadays is that there's not as much potential for things to go wrong in the Sims lives. It's not as fun when everything is perfect for them.

I agree. The scenery has come a long way, there are some nice objects for set design, and you don't have to strain as hard to make attractive Sims like in 2 and 3. But it's a downgrade in every other way. I actually didn't mind all the loading screens when I first got 4, because I hadn't played any Sims game for years, but going from the open world of 3 to using your cellphone to open a loading screen to go to a neighbour's house is ridiculous. Why they did away with the open world is beyond me.

My biggest problem with Sims 4 is the overused loading screens! Back in Sims 3, you could walk around the city, campus, or wherever you're at. In Sims 4, you can't walk around because it makes you teleport everywhere. I would love Sims 4 if they took away all the loading screens. Although, I must say how much I love the multi tasking feature.

I think sims 4 really needed open neighborhoods more than open world. A loading screen to visit my neighbor in the same block and/or apartment building doesn't make sense. I don't mind if there's a loading screen between jumping worlds, but a loading screen to knock next door is a huge immersion killed. sims 2 was closed world, but I think it was far more successful at not being immersion breaking.

@@LGR I wish you'd do a series on what every expansion of sims 4 could be if they got creative and innovative with it. it would expose how average and underwhelming these expansions have been more than your reviews have already done. I say that because you have a huge voice in the sims community and it would wake more people up about it, we all deserve more and a series like that could be the start of a movement imo.

Jenn Teal the Sims 2 was perfection. I had a go at playing the Sims 3, but went back to 2 because I wasn't overly impressed (though I played it with no EPs but I hear the EPs are actually really good). Only stopped playing 2 last year when I bought the Sims 4. I could see the potential with the Sims 4 and begrudgingly carried on, certain that the EPs might make up for the crappy base game. How wrong I was. After seeing this train wreck of an EP, I cannot honestly see it ever becoming good and I've had enough. Back to Sims 2 I think. At least I still have it all installed.

I feel like the Sims 4 could have been really cool, but the foundation was really weak from the start. I do like how you can customize the sims in detail, but other than that it just falls short. You can only do so much, make so many story lines until you get bored. Sims 3, each expansion pack hit you with something more than a potato.

Nicole Rain I actually really hate the new Create-A-Sim. It’s not just me brooding over the loss of Create-A-Style (FUCK YOU EA) either. I really dislike the way it works, with you having to edit Sims by clicking and dragging body parts, and using the mouse wheel. Unlike every other Sims player I prefer the Sims 3 style sliders, (AND THE CREATE-A-STYLE, GODDAMMIT EA) but then again, I also prefer the graphics from Sims 3, so maybe I’m just weird.

THINGS THE SIMS 4 SHOULD BRING BACK: 1.) The Attraction System from the sims 2! I adored this! I hate feeling like I'm playing god the entire game, and this made it feel like your sim wasn't just some doll I was pushing around, like they actually had different levels of chemistry with sims and sometimes they didn't have chemistry with sims and it just felt so real. 2.) Cops- now your teen sims can go out whenever they want and it doesn't matter, and as annoying as the curfew got it still made the game feel less 2 dimensional. Generations added the teen parties that the cops could come and bust and it made it so you could actually feel like your sims were rebellious. 3.) The cars from the sims 2... The sims 2 handled not having an open world better in my opinion. I don't like how you just open the map whenever and choose where you want to go, it feels more like second life than the sims. I loved how in the Sims 2 you had to call a taxi or walk to your destination, or buy a car yourself. When you just teleport to the next venue it feels so unrealistic and it takes away from the experience. 4.) Private school from the sims 2! Inviting the headmaster over for dinner was one of those little things that just made the sims 2 so phenominal. Even though the only real difference between the private and public school was that your sims would leave the house in a fancy uniform, it still made the game more enjoyable for players like me that love story telling. 5.) Toddlers- I know everyone is sick of hearing people complain about them but honestly?? I hate that my kids jump from little beans to full on 9 year olds like what? It still feels wrong to me. 6.) Celebrity system! As I mentioned earlier, I love story telling and the celebrities was such a good way to do that. In the sims 4, I feel like every single sim I make it more or less the same. Like yeah they may have a different job or aspiration but it doesn't feel actually different. 7.) I need pets in my life. I loved having farms on the sims 3 with horses and making money racing them and I really hope they bring that back in the sims 4. Tell me what you all think, what do you want to see back in the game?:)

I hated every version of pets in sims except when they introduced horses because I enjoyed the fun of being able to enter them in races. And I don't really need cars. All your other points I yearn for! 2) Even though we have the detective career, I was hoping we'd be able to patrol the game at night and stop active robberies or be able to arrest any citizen at any time. 4) I forgot how much I miss private schools! I always been a huge fan of University expansions but being able to get a kid into the school was something I always enjoyed. 5) I miss toddlers like you wouldn't believe. They were cute little sims which could move around but you didn't have to devote too much time to them. It's sorely missed in Sims 4 because you can't even hold the infant while walking around the house and with the child stage in this game they may as well be adults with the amount of freedom they have. 6) I hoped choosing the club perk of being well known or famous (can't even remember what it is called) would work like the celebrity system but I haven't noticed anything different. I miss this as well.

EA made a decision to build Sims 4 so it could run on virtually any old potato laptop, so the expansions are never going to transform this thing into the Sims game of our dreams. Back in the day, the Maxis people understood gameplay and challenge, but unless you think collecting items is gameplay, then you're going to be disappointed. I remember the challenge of getting a Sim to the top of their career in the first Sims game -- it was tough! You had to maintain a large number of friendships as well as increase your skills. We've got nothing like that now. It's like a big expensive coloring book.

BoruOfPogoBog the Sims 2 ran on my computer at the time, and my computer was pretty low spec and outdated. Yet the Sims 2 was amazing! EA can't use that excuse to make a crap game, because the Sims 2 could run on mediocre computers. There's just been so many different excuses now as to why it sucks. They seem to be running out of them!

EA simply doesn't understand the game. They want it to be just a sandbox where you can do anything with no consequence. The earlier games were fun because you had to work at things before you could succeed. Also, collecting meaningless stuff like minerals is boring.

This direction that the Sims game has taken is to reflect how the younger generations are thinking about the world. More fun, less responsibilities. Things should be free more often. Actions without consequences. At the same time, be happy with the freedom/liberty the government allows people to have. Confine oneself into the confines of the societies. It is so true it is almost painful. Yes one can decorate this little area that one gets access to, but all the other beautiful things in the background is just facade - not accessible, not editable, no control over them whatsoever. It is indeed sad.

Things I can think of, from the top of my head: 1) The neighbourhoods are extremely small. 2) There are no "food trucks" and the "food competition" isn't what people might expect; the food competition in the trailer was misleading. 3) Elevators don't have functionality. 4) Festivals are pretty much one time experiences since they're extremely repetitive and are too frequent, there's nothing else to do on your second visit that you haven't already done during your first visit. 5) Can't create your own apartments. 6) People who has the key to your apartment won't be able to get in if you lock your door (yes... I know... Just WTF.) 7) Penthouses got passed off as something "new" and "fresh" and was even listed as one of City Living's feature when in reality it's just a normal lot that can be placed on top of a building. 8) In pursuits of your political career, no one will listen to your Sim's speech at the podium in Uptown - don't expect something that's even remotely close to what you see from the trailer, those fancy modern chairs are pointless. The Sims 4 team have "explanations" for these things and they often shove them down our throats. The truth of the matter is... The Sims 4 is a huge step down in the franchise and we know it is. Technology moves forward, not backwards so the resources are available to them. Disappointment from the fans are constantly dismissed... We were given a chocolate cake but now we're handed an oatmeal and raisin cookie. They tell us "it's better for you" so many times some people are starting to believe it. The Sims 4 is literally a well-presented shit sandwich at an overpriced restaurant. You wouldn't know, you'd just see it and think "wow that looks delicious" but then you take a bite... Until fans stop gobbling down what's handed to us, they'll just keep rolling out overpriced shit sandwiches and convince us it's okay.

Challenge is the biggest thing missing from Sims games for me. I want a hardcore mode where they can get into debt, become ill or develop neuroses, sleep disorders or get into accidents with expensive medical bills. But I doubt they'll do that because mass appeal. It seems there's room for a more challenging and adult game in this genre. The closest thing I can think of is This War of Mine but that's pretty extreme in the other direction.

I'm also ready for a more grown up version. To be honest Sims1 was pretty grownup in the sense that it was challenging and sometimes scary. Because their needs dropped so fast it was difficult to keep them happy and they would throw tantrums. You could get fired easily too and you didn't always have the money for bills. You could also get sick and i remember in sims2 the sickness would spread like the plague...Also if their mood dropped too much they would go (literally) insanse, remember? The shrink and the bunny xD

Synthra Official I'd be hesitant to trust what you see in places like this. Yeah a LOT of people dislike 4 but at the same time it's become something of a circle jerk where no one will take you seriously if you say yo do like the game, so people don't. I don't thing TS4 has done as well as, say, TS2 but if it was doing as poorly as the comments would have you believe then EA just wouldn't waste time and resources on putting out more content. Just because a group is shouting the loudest doesn't mean they are the biggest force.

Not speaking for the simming community, but I believe, to me (as a player that loves this series) its the changing of seasons while playing that makes it a bit more immersive, along with the holidays that come with it. At the time being, you have constant sunshine which makes you feel like you're in a bubble that protects from the elements, and doesn't really feel right (Think the dome TV series)

Sorry, no, they've never said that and they will carry on making The Sims franchises for the rest of time. Why? Because it is EA's single biggest cash cow. Has been for nearly 20 years at this point. The Sims is the most successful video game franchise of all time by the numbers. What they DID say was that they were making The Sims 4 modular enough to function much like Windows 10, where it can be continually upgraded for a long time to come rather than having to roll out a 'Sims 5' any time in the near future.

I was hoping this pack would have an Urbz feel to it. That game had personality and actual diversity in its social subcultures. The Urbz had loading screens too but at least it wasn't between single lots like The Sims 4 + it came out in 2004!!

  • @glentheo7058

    @glentheo7058

I would absolutely love an Urbz 2. Social media has become so central to becoming a public figure, I think with some never done before additions, for example careers in modelling, party planning, celebrity agents, social activist etc. the game could be incredible. Keeping aspects from the original game such as the 9 unique districts with distinct features, sims would have more personality and a sense of identity separate from simply 'living in the city'.

I have to agree, TS2 has soooo much character, each sim (even townies!) have distinct traits that are consistent on each gameplay, it is a joy to play with. The perfect Sims game would have TS4 performance, TS3 architecture and environment, TS2 gameplay and traits, and TS1 soundtrack. Remastering it would be really excellent.

I completely agree with the depth-part of the game and it is just not entertaining to "play with life" anymore... I feel like the developers took all the critique from sims 3 (tools, lag etc.) and addressed it, really well I might add, but cut out what made the sims 3 great to begin with (open world, good family-life play and well, depth). I just can't see myself ever getting as deep into this game as with sims 3.

Honestly, like you said Sims 4 as a whole compared to 3 is awful. Never had 1 or 2, but I loved 3 and bought multiple packs, and my favorite by far was nightlife. I loved bars & nightclubs and making them, celebrity status (even though so many didn't), and even the actual sims 3 as a whole. The cars and truly interactive map being able to walk around it was so much more enticing, and the entire thing overall was better. I was upset when 4 came out seeing how everything changed for the worse being no cars, inability to walk the map, & even worse graphics. (I can't stand those bubble graphics.) I haven't played it more than just a few hours in the last year or so (and we're literally talking maybe under 10) and was hoping it'd be better by now, but seeing how it's not thanks for the savings tip. Been watching your Sims Reviews since around 2011 when I got Sims 3, still going strong LGR. Thanks again and well done.

I played the Sims Freeplay for years and thought the actual Sims games would be a much more immersive experience. But outside of aesthetics and Sim interactions my Sims Freeplay experience was just better. A whole new town came in a a free update (though you had to spend an ungodly amount of simoleons to buy it) but it was there. There are multiple islands with unique game play features and quests you had to complete in order to unlock new features (which presented a challenge and clear motivation for all players). The only main problem I have with it is your sim can't die, but even then the game was fairly difficult. I still love the Sims 4, I never played earlier games because I'm a graphics nerd and the Sims 4 has pretty chairs but I can't deny that the Sims 4 is very hollow. You can speculate why a game with so much life became so empty, I just think EA realized people would accept whatever they were given. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Just a look at the wiki and Carl's guide will show you that the current Sims dev and publish strategy is extremely underwhelming. With the vanilla being a mixed bug, all they had to do to redeem themselves is to release deep content frequently. It's been two years and what we got it the equivalent of waiting half an hour in the restaurants between every single meal, and the meal is always dry bread with one cherry on top. The cherry is nice, but for that amount of time the I expecting some meat to go along with it!

what I wish the sims 4 adds: 1. SEASONS. 2. Travel time between places which differs based on distance or whatever. Like, a time jump after the loading screen which can be shortened or lengthen by some kind of transportation method. 3. Place to get a real "vacation" feels in the game where we needs sims time to travel there, get to stay a night in a real hotel or base camp, or whatever, and then explore and learn new game mechanics there. 4. SEASONS. GODDAMNIT 5. Higher level of mood, or more mood types. 6. Toddler, or any new sim's life stage. 7. Some sort of power level like increased movement speed, or stronger body, or martial arts, or anything like that. 8. And oh, did I mention SEASONS already? Yea... I WISH THEY FCKING ADD SEASONS SOON...

zackattack9772 TS3 with just the base game is a lot better than TS4. But that's just my opinion.

diamondjaecreations They both are flawed imo. Both games when I got them when they first came out gave me an awkward uncomfortable feeling. Sims 2 will always be the best one imo

zackattack9772 i like how you was able to customize anything you like on TS3. I like TS2 also but I like realistic graphics.

diamondjaecreations I do miss the customization tool even tho I barely used it, it did come in handy when I needed it. I feel like the graphics in the sims 3 are overrated. The sims are gigantic and weird looking and they are super blocky. I prefer the graphics in sims 2 and 4 but I do like the scenery graphics

I'm kind of disappointed in this pack, it really doesn't seem to be worth $40.

IT's EA, is that a surprise? Sims 5 will be one room and three household items... sold seperately.. $20 each

Over here in the UK it's £30 which may seem nicer but it is not. All previous games expansions were £20 and inflation doesn't cause it to increase that much and you don't get the quality of expansion for your money anymore.

"City" Yet the actual world space is as small as sims one and smaller than some of the bigger sims 2 towns. Holy fucking molly how do you make a squeal with down graded features
