LG E7 OLED vs Sony A1E OLED

It is a battle royal between LG's E7 OLED and Sony's A1E OLED. If you're watching this video, then you've probably heard that both of these TVs are amazing, and you're wondering which TV is best? What we can tell you right now, from a picture quality standpoint, it is almost impossible decision; they're both amazing televisions. But, we're going to discuss what features makes each TV unique, and will let you decide which one is best fit for you.
Starting off with the LG E7, you're given a TV mounted on glass, that allows the edges to disappear into the background--which is a cool illusion, especially when it is mounted on a wall. For sound, the E7 incorporates a sound bar with forward-firing speakers, and also uses Dolby Atmos to process sound. Although you don't get the greatest surround sound experience with the TV alone, it is still an above average system than most TV's built-in speakers.
The Sony A1E has a much more dramatic approach to design, which uses an easel-style approach to let the TV sit flush on the TV stand. The TV looks like a sexy beast when oriented this way, but will stick out a little when wall mounted. When it comes to sound quality, the A1E has speakers built right behind the screen itself. With a subwoofer and directional steering, you're given a very immersive sound whose dialogue sounds like it's actually coming from the actor's mouths.
Now for Smart TV interfaces, we really have to go with LG's webOS interface that comes with the Magic Motion remote. It's incredibly easy to use comparatively to Sony's Android platform, which we really aren't huge fans of; it's sluggish and slow, and we'd rather use a Roku.
In terms of HDR support, the LG is the winner, considering it carries HDR10, a feature that Sony promises to bring in a future update.
Picture quality on both TVs is absolutely stellar; whatever TV you take home you will be thrilled. If we get into the nitty-gritty details of each TV, you'll receive a less noisy/grainy image for cable and satellite TV with the Sony A1E, but lacks the depth that the LG E7 delivers. For brightness, it's essentially a wash, but LG's TV delivers a little better tone mapping, and won't clip highlights as aggressively as the Sony does. But, the Sony's spectral highlights appear more intense, and that's because those highlights are being juiced up to the absolute max.
Sony does have the upper hand in motion resolution and judder reduction. The Sony is smoother, with less soap opera effect. You're going to see some flicker on both TVs, but this is something that you'll get over quickly.
If we had to make a decision on our favorite choice of TV, we would have to go for the LG E7 OLED, but with that being said, the Sony A1E is still an amazing choice, and you'll be satisfied with either TV you decide to purchase.

I have done some research about it and I gotta say, it doesn't matter if sony is buying displays produced by LG. I just got to know that Sony has deliberately reduced the color contrast in image processing because, the extreme brightness of color on LG display is a little bit too much for a human eye. It causes some kind of minor disfunction in the rods of retina of the eye which is ignorable, but it makes the watching experience a little bit stressful for the eye. That's why, sony decided to focus on spectroscopy and reduce the little bit of excess color contrast that LG produces. This makes Sony TV a little bit more realistic and comfortable experience than LG. This fact just impressed me AF. But it's on you, both are good, and LG is a bit more accurate in the white brightness. I will surely choose Sony but you can have either of them, cause really I have seen the difference with my own eyes.

LG OLED. I researched and researched and researched. Bought an LG C7 because I couldn't justify paying 1000 more for Sony's extreme processor chip or laggy UI for that price.. for a 1000 less you can get the LG C7 65 instead of a 55 inch Sony A1E at the same price point. LG definitely has the better UI with Web OS and its smooth as butter. Also.. future proof with Dolby Vision, HLG, Technicolor HDR right out of the box. Sony has yet to deliver through a firmware update. For gaming it also has a lower input response time of 21.1ms than the Sony which is important for gamers. Picture quality is outstanding. HDR10 looks awesome with great tone mapping resolving details in bright areas and not clipping. Colors are natural than the Sony's.. People really need to look past brand dominance.. (it's a status quo thing) It's really a no-brainer. You would be hard pressed to see any differences unless you bough both and extensively tested them at home. Even then you would just find that the Sony A1E does a couple things better than the LG and that the LG does a couple things better than the Sony.. both are great and anybody would be happy with either or.. but like I said personally for me.. it's the LG OLED hands down.. I'm not blowing smoke because I've seen both in person and currently own the LG C7.

not all games are 4k please remember that. Even some of the games running on PS4 pro/ xbox X give you the option to run the game at 1080p with higher frame rate, or more visual effects. So I would want a TV that has a fairly close input lag regardless of resolution. Lets not forget most games are still 1080p

They're the same LG Display OEM OLED panel. So the only difference in picture is purely down to the custom manufacturers code that does the rendering on the panel. In Fact, LG Display deliver the OEM OLED Panel for Sony, Panasonic and LG. Philips TV's have been made wholly by LG for a long time as Philips was an original JV partner of LG Display (they sold off their shares in 2008). Only Samsung go a different road. LG Display are also the OEM for the displays in Apple devices such as the iMac 5K and the Retina Macbook Pro.

I bought a Sony TV and I'm returning it as soon as I can. How's it great picture but as far as extras go they have these standard lineup of KZread, Amazon, Netflix, Facebook video, and a few other common apps that for the most part it was all games. When I did find something I liked it said it was not compatible with my TV which made me wonder why they had it on my TV to start with. It does not have a web browser built in which is something I enjoy using but it does have this strange bar where you can add your own URL address to it and hope it will work so far it has not. And the thing I dislike most is 90 5% of everything you'll find on that screen will cost you at least $0.99 but for the most part $5 whereas almost everything on LG is free. Sony even charges for TV programming that's free with LG

I'm still happy with my 42" GT50 plasma from Panasonic. The prices of OLED are just too high for me to afford. I'll probably wait as long as I can a few more generations of models and wait for their prices to be more affordable. I know you can get last year's OLED for £1400 but if rather wait a while for the to fix the motion and stuttering issues. Something I hated in my old Sony CCFL LCD tv the 40W4000. Since motion isn't a problem in my plasma it's as smooth as butter. I don't think I could switch back to LCD or OLED tech until this is corrected and affordable.

Right in the middle of choosing one of those. Didn't even look on the LG's TVs only due to the fact that Sony has an Android on it. Imagine the possibilities! Yeah... Reading more and more on Sony support forums, kodi forums and elsewhere the Sony's platform SoC sucks big time! It sucked before with the appearance of Android TV and it sucks now even more. It's a cheap-ass Mediatek on all (even top-of-the-line) models. Read up on it. It's not enough for Android TV. Its linux support and drivers is a mess... No really, go read Sony's Android TV forums! All those posts of "Happy" users. Man, what a shame! KZread and Amazon Video steams judder when you add or remove volume, KZread 2160p streams playing only in 1440p resolution with 100% cpu usage, Kodi DTS and AC-3 passthrough won't work, you have to use hacks and specials ('shitty') nightly builds... and so on and so forth. No way I'm shelling out those money for this! LG it is then.

for you to know Sony was the first who showed the world's first oled display in 2007 and still they produce the best monitors possible, for instance their most advanced professional 4k OLED Sony BVM-X300 which costs appr. 30 000$. Eventhough it is for cinema industry it has the best and most accurate picture quality you can find on a display market right now. It is not so easy and cheap to built a massive oled tv production for consumers. Sony probably did not want to risk or simply could not afford to spend a lot of money on a massive production of OLED tvs as a technology itself was not so perfect till present time and tvs are still quite pricey. They decided to wait and improve OLED technology and put their efforts only into professional monitors industry and only now as a market of oled is growing constantly Sony made a first step to keep themselves on a go with their main competitors and started buying oled panels from LG with their own video processing technology. Who knows may be in 2-3 years we shall see them built or buy their own production for OLED tvs. It is buisness and every step should be very careful and rational.

If you're looking at the A1 then you're clearly going to compare it to the LG 65" equivalent, in which case you decide whether it's worth the extra couple hundred pounds more, you can't go wrong either way. If you've got a smaller room you'd be an idiot to get either of these over the LG 55", which can be had for a shade over half of what these two cost. As much as all blokes would like an extra 10", it's not quite the same in TV land.

I bought the A1 because I like it flushed on my TV unit, and you don't want a soundbar to ruin the looks. The panel as an amplifier technology is brilliant and the sound is like coming straight out of the person's mouth. Absolutely superb. I say Sony keep investing on the speaker technology. Great job.

The only thing that keeps me away from the sony is the tilt for some reason that bugs the shit outta me. Android TV isn't as smooth or pleasing to look at as web os 3.5. The Sony remote looks like garbage considering the TV that it comes with isn't cheap. And its sony's first oled tv while LG has a bit more experience making them for past few years.

I'm well aware of sony being the first to make an oled back in 2007 but I dont count it because it was an 11 inch screen with a resolution of 960×540 and theres been a 10 year gap where they haven't made anything oled since ( I guess you could count the 5" oled on the og vita but that also was 960x540) . Not to mention that LG are the one's producing the panel for their new A1E OLED so I'm not too sure where the idea that Sony is more experienced than LG in the oled department is coming from.

  • @gorillapancake

Actually, Sony's been making professional grade OLED monitors for years, which is why I'm bummed that the A1 isn't convincingly the best OLED TV. Its colour accuracy, brightness and Tone Mapping have been botched.

Hello :-) The Sony 55A1 costs now 2799€ and next Monday costs the LG 55E7 1999€ is a discount price in Media Markt. What do you think which one i must buy ? You think is worth 800€ more for the Sony in your opinion ? I whatch much movies, Football, Sky HD, Netflix, Amazon, Blu-Ray (4k). Games yes not so much but i will buy the new XBox oneX 👍 And i read thats the Sony have just 2x4K HDMI and 2x normal thats not good because i have a receiver for my Soundsystem, Sky receiver, Xbox onex in November and a 4k player. And the LG have 4x full 4k HDMI.👍 And i think maybe end of next year i Dell the E7 and buy an 2018 Modell maybe the E8 because i read 2018 comes new oled panels on the market . I think is better now safe the money 800€ here because both are 55 inch and the oled panel comes from LG. When i keep the tv 5 - 8 years then i bought the Sony, but i dont keep so much and is so Little difference, i think i chose the LG for 1 or 2 years because 1999€ is ok for the E7.
