First of all, thank you so much for getting me started (it is going to rain tomorrow). My fist problem was the nut that holds the bar in on the left it is NOT directly in line with any kind of a ratchet. You have to angle so much that it is hard to keep the socket on the nut.....but it did come out. After moving the glass enough to get cable cut out then the fun starts ! My biggest problem was getting the glass to latch into place manually to where it looked flush on all sides from the outside so it would not leak in! Oh well, thanks to you getting me going on it I did access it and got the thing seated to where it will not leak when it rains. Thank you so much for the help and if not for you I may have had to resort to plastic and duct tape until we got it fixed properly.

Did you guys remove both belts? Only the lower one was broken, but maybe the intact one I left in is getting in the way of shutting completely...

I only had one belt- a white one like the one pictured in the video.

This one was white too - perhaps I didn't pull the whole thing out and I'm just seeing 2 different sections of the same one. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this. I had the same issue, got my moonroof stuck open and heard clicking noises when I tried to close it. After taking everything apart I found that the bottom belt was indeed cut which is crazy because of how difficult it was to cut the other belt with wire cutters. I found that once both belts were cut, you need to pull the bottom belt from left to right, and the top belt from right to left, and if you pull these while pushing the moonroof you can close it. Instead of pushing some of the excess belt in at the end to use the motor to close it to plush, I used pliers to again pull the belts as my friend pushed the roof into position and I was able to make sure no water is able to come in and it looks plush. I would have been screwed without this guide on here and I truly appreciate it because I was able to get it closed for free, and if I ever want to fix the roof myself I have a good understanding of how it’s done now.

You are awesome so very awesome. You have no idea. Thank you thank you. Mines broke on a rainy day last year and its been a night mare with a duct taped roof and no one to fix it for me. I have taped a rubber mat to the inside to keep out rain. The dealer didn't know how to fix it they wanted to charge me 500.00 to take down the liner just to look inside. My husband builds 18 wheelers so he is taking it down this weekend to repair. Thankyou again.

I'm glad the video helped. Depending on the value of your car, it may not be worth the cost of replacing the belt. It's a big and costly job.

@@drsinaithat's what I felt as well. Mine is a 2006 model RX330 with only 140K miles on it but I don't think it is worth fixing this problem.

Thank you so much! This totally saved me! I have tried to purchase just the belt and replace it, going backwards in your steps as you said. I have been unsuccessful in being able to purchase just the belt. I have been told I need to purchase the entire assembly part number 63205 which costs 450 minimum. Is this true? I am wondering if you actually purchased this part to fix this permanently or what you did as a permanent fix to get your sun roof up and running again? Thank so much for the help!

That sounds right- you will not be able to replace the belt only, unfortunately. Due to the expense and difficulty involved in the repair, I permanently closed my sunroof. Glad I was able to help:)

I had the same problem with my Lexus RX 330. I wish I could have replaced the gear belt and got the moonroof working again however it looks to be extremely complicated and difficult to replace. So it will stay shut.

The rx300 have metal cable as belt not plastics , any ideas on how to go around and close the roof permanently??

I cut everything I could. There is some left that won't pull out. Cut all the excess but the roof still on the pop up position and it won't go down by pushing it. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the video man helps but my sunroof didn't shut all the way and I couldn't pull the belt out all the it was stuck and me my buddy tried pulling but no budge any suggestions

Thanks for the video! I managed to fix the sunroof of my RX 400h, although it is now temporarily not possible to be opened. The toothed drive strips were totally finished. Maybe some day I will drop the roof panel and install new parts. At least now the sunroof won’t leak when it’s raining.

Thanks for the video. Finally got the bolt off for the metal bar… sure enough, the belt was broke. I cut off and pulled out as much of the belt as I could but maybe I shouldn’t have kept pulling? 🥴 The sunroof was in an uneven tilt position, now it is stuck tilted up, but even… Any tips on how to manually get it down flat if the belt is unable to be pushed back?

did you pull the entire belt out? If you only cut the broken piece, you can still use the button to close the sunroof even if the belt is cut (But you won't be able to open it with the button). If the entire belt is out, you must close the sunroof manually, will require a lot of force. Someone should help you from the outside and you should push from the inside... Good luck.

by pushing it forward very hard. If you want to form a seal, you must use the motor to close it the rest of the way- if you allow a piece of the broken belt to engage the motor, it will close and seal it tight. You just won't be able to reopen and close again without going through the entire process again.

drsinai ah I think I understand. So you're advising me to cut away any frayed pieces of the ribbon, then try and get some of the ribbon around the motor.

“With motor off and on the side…” uhhh why didn’t you show this? Super important, the actual access to the belt and you skipped right over it?

Did your stereo light go off after disconnecting the motor to the sun roof? If so how did u turn it back on

no, it didn't effect the stereo or anything else. check the fuse.

I do not think cutting the belt is the answer. I just continued to push the button and it closed eventually. The charge to have a belt put on vs having it replaced is probably more because they will say you damaged something when you cut it out. This does not seem like a smart solution the moonroof could have been covered for a short term solution.

No noise at all on my girlfriends vehicle, won't close, nothing. I'll be doing this tomorrow, even if the cables don't look like that, cutting the things off

i cant seem to find the rubber seal. ... mine leaks .. its closed and the seal isnt stoping the water anymore. i wake up to an inch of water on the floor pan after a good rain fall... any know where i can buy the seal?

sorry, I am not sure about that. I suggest u get a part number from the dealership and buy it off Ebay or Amazon where it;s at-lease 50% cheaper. Good Luck...

cut the cable first on both sides. push the sunroof to the closed position. The cable will push out as you do it. Cut the excess cable .
