Lew Soloff in a timeless performance of Georgia on My Mind complete with talis like scarf for residents of the Peach State. He was the complete musician. Beautiful.
An absolute master. And the backing trio acquit themselves nicely.
One of the very BEST. Lew Soloff was so very talented....
Legend. There will never be another like Lew.
Lew Soloff was trumpet player in Blood, Sweat and Tears back in 1969.
Ten minutes of pure heaven. Kenny on piano was perfect whilst drummer Che underplayed his role beaitifully. Greatly appreciated this. Thank you so much. More if you've got any please.

@@sirbil hey what hs did you two attend?
Wow... Wow. Liquid gold thru four octaves, growling, he played his mouthpiece, and finished the rendition with pedal tones. What a loss. Sleep well, sir.

Growling and flutter tongue. RIP Lew
May he rest in peace thanks for sharing your talent with us
I'm lucky I got to meet Lew many times over the years. He was a genuine guy and always cracked me up. I loved his secret pouch of mystery mouth pieces
Unreal. A legend that I grew up idolizing in the 70's.

It is sad when an idol leaves us. I grew up idolizing Maynard Ferguson when I was a young jazz student on trumpet. So I know how you feel.
What an inspiration !!
Wonderful rendition.
Rest In Peace...one of THE all time greats...
Simply beautiful and soulful!
Beautiful sound, beautiful soul, I miss you cousin Lew ❤ 😢
At a Carla Bley concert in Manchester UK, I asked if the band would be doing a 'signing'. The girl who I asked went away and came back to tell me "No". But then guided me back stage to a room where most of the band sat on basic chairs (no frills). I was dumbstruck. Suddenly in this room with Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, and Gary Valente and such. They all signed my CD and on the way out of the room I bumped into Andy Sheppard who was surprised at me being there, until i explained why. He also kindly signed my 4x4 album sleeve. I thought that was it and, to be honest, would have been grateful had it ended there. The girl then took me up some stairs to another room. I don't know why but she did. She knocked on the door and Lew Soloff opened it. I'd never met him before and was a complete stranger to him but I've never met anyone who was so gracious, welcoming and friendly. One of the greatest instrumentalists in the world was treating me like I was more special than him. I will never forget that moment. I cried my eyes out when I heard he had died. Beautiful man. Beautiful music.
Lew rocks this one with so much heart and soul you for sure can feel his love for music!!!!
Love your sound. It stays with us.

Oh how we miss you so....thanks for being you....
lew soloff era la tromba della gil evans orchestra alla edizione di Umbria Jazz che ebbi la fortuna di ascoltare. questa sua lettura di Georgia secondo me è meravigliosa e risente senz'altro del 'mood' gilevansiano. BUON NATALE A TUTTI!!!
AMAZING!
RIP Lew. I'm so sad((

R.I.P. Lew Soloff
As emotive as an singer. All soul and no artifice. Transcends the horn itself, while seemingly referencing every significant expressive element of the trumpet's cumulative vocabulary, going back to Louis Armstrong. True mastery, but never for its own sake. In a word? SOUL.
Просто -СПАСИБО!
Exquisite
Maravilloso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
R.I.P Lew Soloff.
Great!!!
RIP Lew….
Bom demais!!!
wowowowowow
Repose en paix !

Does anyone know the trumpet and MP Lew Soloff preferred? I seem to recall it was the Schilke B6 trumpet, also what Chase used, but I'm not sure. Thanks
I have your book of Jazz Trumpet solo, I want to see your concert in live but you are not in here anymore!

Hiroyuki, This is the producer of the video you are commenting on. Mr. Soloff unfortunately passed away on March 8, 2015 in New York City. You might be interested in checking out this link from the same show but with many different songs. I entitled it , "Seven Songs" and it shows most of the songs that Lew performed on this particular night. Rest in peace, Lew. kzread.info/dash/bejne/n3mBqaynnpywj5c.html
Go Georgia Bulldogs!!

Does the scarf have something to do with the Jewish faith?

Perhaps. I remember Lew telling me that night that the scarf was given to him by Paul Shaffer.
