I kinda hate this, I remember I saw a video once saying that there are 2 types of glory hunters, 1 that we hate fairly and 1 that might be okay. I think that if you start following a club because they are good at that time that's fine if you stick by it. This comment to me is just shitting on new Leverkusen fans which I don't think is fair, it might be true that they became fans because of this season but I don't see why that is bad but it really seem like a lot of people think its bad thing, but I don't see why new fans is bad.

Gasperini just outplayed Alonso, pressure is real but also for Atalanta, Gasp is just able to force other teams to play at his own terms. Frankly the comparison between Leverkusen and Atalanta isn't exactly accurate. Leverkusen is a traditional powerhouse of German football with a UEFA cup win, German Cup (and supecup) win, over 250 European competition matches and nearly a dozen runner-up spots in the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal. They just happened to never win the championship but they are perennial contenders. What's amazing about Leverkusen's record is how consistently good they have been. Outside of their first 6 seasons in the top flight, where they struggled, Bayer has finished 2nd 5 times, 3rd 6 times, 4th 5 times, 5th 7 times and 6th 6 times. That's 30 top 6 finishes in their last 36 seasons. It's unheard if for a team that has never lifted the trophy. They are the definition of the nearly men. Atalanta has never achieved anything if that sort until yesterday. They had 1 cup, a semi final of a Cup Winners' Cup and three 3rd place finishes, all in the last 5 years.

Story time: I don't know if you have something like this, but here in Italy we have albums about the Serie A that they release every year, the point of these albums is that you would collect these stickers with the photos of all the players from every team, that they sold in separate packages (there was no way of knowing what you would find inside each package) and you would stick them on the album. I got my first album when I was 8 or 9 and didn't even know what the Serie A was, and I immediately decided that Atalanta was my favourite team simply beacuse I liked the color of their shirt. My friends were a bit perplexed at this and said that at this point I'd be better off picking Inter because they had the same colors and were much more successful. The crazy thing is that 10 years ago Atalanta wasn't this good! In 2014 they avoided relegation by only 4 points and now in 2024 they won their second major trophy EVER, 61 years after they won their first ( a Coppa Italia) and in the last 8 years they reached 3 Coppa Italia finals (wich they all lost, the last one being this year's edition). The club is 117 years old so it's a bit crazy to think that all of this happened so recently. So yeah, to conclude, it's been 10 years since I bought that album and Atalanta is still my favourite team.

The thing is, Leverkusen actually put effort for that invincible season. They didn't just let the remaining matches go down after they won Bundesliga... The fought every match. You can see they were wearing off and getting burned out by the end of season if you notice the increasing number of draws. People are praising Boniface everyday but his form post injury was not at the levels. Schick performed when Boniface was out but even he is not invincible to perform magic everyday. During last matches, it was those players who were not starting in the Beginning of the season, who performed. Stanisic, Andrich, Holzec... They scored. In the beginning, it was all Grimaldo, Boniface, Wirtz and Frimpong. Those 51 matches is not easy... It tires any team. Even the Invincible Arsenal were not focusing on Europe or cup that season.... Leverkusen tried it on ALL COMPETITION. So a defeat was inevitable... Unfortunately they just had 2 matches left before the proper rest and that made it a little painful. But they still lost against a team that poured all their heart into just this Europa league.

The difference is that Atalanta had already played competent opponents in both the cup and EL and thus were somewhat used to the pressure. Besides Stuttgart in the cup and Roma in EL, Leverkusen didn't really have good opponents this year. It was just 2nd BuLi (or even lower) teams, a West Ham that in the second half of the season is almost in relegation worthy form and a bunch of teams from tiny leagues dotted across europe that are equivalent to said 2nd BuLi teams.

Out of all the teams Leverkusen could’ve lost to, i’m so happy it was Atalanta. A team that has stuck with its manager and attacking style of play for almost a decade now and really was the first club that started to play attractive football in Italy and this without having the luxury of being able to buy top players. A team that has also lost 3 Copa Italia finals. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gasperini’s style of play influenced Xabi Alonso’s a lot with the way they utilize the wings and use 3 at the back. It’s however such a shame that people talk so much about Leverkusen’s first loss rather than the incredible run Atalanta have had in the UEL. If I was a Leverkusen fan I would only want to lose to a team that deserved to win, and boy did Atalanta. They didn’t seem in danger once the entire game. If you’re able to crush Liverpool and Leverkusen the way they’ve done, you’ve damn well earned that trophy! Mad respect 🫡.

as someone who rooted for them all season, they just proved to everyone that they were clearly never “one of the best teams in history” season-wise. and the clues were all there, while they kept being praise for 200th minute comeback, i was growing frustrated because there was clearly something wrong but hey, they were undefeated. then they got completely manhandled, exposed, humiliated by atalanta and the 3-0 scoreline really flattered them. could have been more, literally every player and even xabi were all awful

Remember when you said that the match after they beat Werder Bremen in order to secure their Bundesliga title would be their hardest match, psychologically speaking? Perhaps it was, back then. But this one was much worse. Keep in mind that this was the match after they secured their unbeaten Bundesliga season. They were extremely tense for such a long time. And they were able to maintain that intensity throughout all their games. But when they secured that stage goal, the most important one of them all, a lot of weight dropped off their shoulders. And with that, dropped the intensity. No, actually, it was replaced by pressure. Because now they saw that it was actually possible. The unbeaten treble could actually become a reality. On top of they faced a fantastic Atalanda side. They were out for blood. And they were one of the best teams of the second half of the Serie A season for a reason. It didn't help that Alonso played Frimpong as a CAM along with Wirtz. Neither did he play Boniface or Andrich. Both would introduce some much needed physical strength against Atalanta. Without them, they got bullied. They lacked security in the back and breakthrough power in the front.
May is the new Movember
Moustache looks good on you
The unbeaten run is indeed historic and incredible, but i feel we're stretching the 'wow' a bit, after all they are an exception to the 50+1 rule, are owned by the one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies on the planet, and #2 team market value in germany, they just won the bundesliga, whereas atalanta are 5th in seria a, 5th in seria a market value wise, almost half the market value of leverkusen, i mean yeah it's great what they did but let's not pretend they're union berlin or anything like that. .... damn you compared leverkusen to an aston villa or west ham, no dude it's like chelsea or arsenal wining the premier league unbeaten as those are the 2nd and 3rd market values in the prem, and for arsenal it did happen.

I feel like you took it a bit far in the other direction. Of course Atalanta are underdogs, that wasn't in question. This is considering the run as a whole. Mentioning market value isn't exactly fair, because it's not as if they were particularly expensive players, it's just that Alonso turned them into a winning machine and their market value adjusted correspondingly. While it's true that Leverkusen is owned by Bayer, they aren't exactly bankrolling the team like a PSG or a Newcastle and the team was originially started by Bayer factory workers, hence their nickname (die Werkself). While Bayer were underperforming and Atalanta are still riding the recent wave of unprecedented success, as a whole and before the start of this season, I don't think it's crazy at all to say the two teams occupied similar positions in their respective leagues.

And maybe in some years it was but in the last few years we rly get strong and stronger. I hope the Case Lewandowski will never happen again. Where a Ballon´dor contender loose just because he destroyed "only" the Bundesliga.
Atalanta put on a master class on defense, pressing Bayern out of the game in the first half and Lookman put on an all-time final performance to secure Atalanta the title. After they beat Liverpool, I figured they’d win but I had to watch the game for myself to make sure.
yoo.. the stache
Got to show Atalanta respect. They play beautiful football and have been dunking on prem and other big clubs in Europe for years now. They did all this while being the 8th biggest spenders in Italy. I wasn't surprised they beat Bayer. They've been around for a while now and Bayer is s great, have been good just this season
Bayer Leverkusen isn't a random club. They have been one of the bigger German clubs for decades. They quallified for one of the European competitions almost every year. They just didn't win anything before.
woah where’d the nice mustache come from😭
Listen Zealand, I 100% agree that one loss doesn't diminish what Leverkusen has done this season, but I also think it unfair that you explain the finale defeat with "pressure" or (in i'm not mistaken) even unlucky, The word you're searching for is "pressing". You toast Leverkusen great season, I toast two incredible footballers, Koopmeiners and Ederson, which were every-fucking-where, it was like Atalanta had 2 kantés in their squad, and they deservedly steamrolled leverkusen 3-0. And you know what? Someone could also argue that 3-0 was lucky on leverkusen's side, because Atalanta could have made 4 or 5. Take this as constructive criticism, from a guy who's being watching Football for at least 35 years, and who deeply loves your videos.
No Frog 🐸 😢
bro's head so big only using 2 buttons
1st time I (and most other people) watched Leverkusen... they got thrashed
Green moustache when
"To a city in Georgia, of all places..." Is it weird I'm an American, and my first thought was, "They played in Tbilisi?!?"
Imagine if they go on a year long losing streak now 😂
Zealand, where is the frog?
c'mon man put some respect on Bergamo Calcio... a team that was in the bottom half of the table less than a decade ago The Management and the owner's, the youth acadamy and their scouts, they did something amazing in that small city. And the biggest praise to Gasperini who glued everything together

Isn't Bergamo Calcio the EAFC version of Atalanta
I haven't been this devastated at an upset since Boise State ranked #2 and lost to Nevada and they weren't able to bust the BCS Championship

Bro shut up…
And I feel less bad knowing they at least completed an unbeaten season in Germany AND can still do the double.
Fun fact: Leverkusen already won the Europa league in 1988 (then known as UEFA Cup)
god finally stepped in and fixed the glitch, Leverkusen is now bout to bottle every final again, including the dfb pokal against Kaiserslautern
Im a german Bundesliga fan and to experience this team was such a good thing for the whole bundesliga. Let's be honest here, nobody cares if Bayern München wins the Bundesliga. I grew up when the Bundesliga had a different champion every second year or so (1990-2010). This complete Bayern dominance has been the most boring it's been for decades. As a neutral, it was amazing to watch them go for this 51 unbeaten and Invincible Bundesliga Championship. I really hope they get the DFB Cup, as they deserve it for freeing the Bundesliga from those Bavarian Giants.
Hey man, nice stache
I wouldn't say that this Leverkusen team came outta nowhere. When during Covid every team around you suffers huge losses meanwhile every red number on your finance sheet gets turned black by the company that backs you, it's a lot easier. Now they're not running around with more money than they can spend, but they don't need to be afraid of making mistakes cuz as I said they can't go further than 0. As for their squad, Leverkusen has been a top 6 team in germany for over 20 years, they've always had good players and apart from 4-5 very good signings, the team that went unbeaten this year was already there. There was huge quality in that squad already in Tah (the captain), Wirtz, Palacios or Frimpong etc. It's unbelievable what they achieved this year, but they were bound to at least overtake Leipzig and Dortmund at some point for years now. It's been coming, just needed the right manager and Xhaka
I don’t know wether to laugh or cry 😭

Why do you have a Lincoln city kit Lmao they’re my local
Atalanta also smacked down Liverpool when they were at the top. I wouldn't be surprised it Leverkusen lost every match they have left
Guess their getting back their old form neverkusen here we come!
Congrats to Atalanta on becoming first time European champs, and congrats to Bayer for their amazing season…. also I dig the mustache 💯
That mo' is sooooo Aussie haha all the kids who can grow one, wear one! Dude looks like 50% of AFL players!
Leverkossen has always been there near the top. They just had a bit of a dip at the start of last season but they are a big name and a big team in germany.
How good was Atlanta's last 2 games?
20 years after the historic 2003/04 Arsenal season another club had a historic unbeaten run. In 2043/44 another team will have a historic unbeaten run.
Noooo, that's so sad
Atalanta: have one of the greatest Europa league wins of all time beating Liverpool and Leverkusen. Zealand: let’s talk about Leverkusen for the 3000th time

Atalanta deserves a video, they just had the misfortune of beating a team that had set the record for longest unbeaten run ever
As a Liverpool supporter, I'm equal parts heartbroken and vindicated. Feel for you, Xabi, but after the performance of Atalanta at Anfield, I feel the best team in the competition won.
Every hater in the fucking world oozed out of the cracks after this game. That's why most of us casual witnesses feel icky now

I just smiled. Do you know why? They eliminated my Man United in the 2002 semi-finals of the Champions League. We should have played in that Champions League final and they eliminated us. So, I wanted to see them fail in Europe. They can win everything in Germany, but not in Europe. Also, you do know that Atalanta is a smaller team than Leverkusen. If you like a good underdog story, Atalanta was the underdog.

All crawling out of their trenches to hate because they know their shite teams can never go invincible with man city around...
Not EXACTLY, the same thing, but the Golden State Warriors had a 73-9 regular season, the best ever, but lost in the finals after being up 3-1. You hardly hear any fans bring that season up. It's painful. It ruined it for them.

Reminds me of how Juventus did an unbeaten season in Serie A in 2012, but then lost the Coppa Italia final. You never see Juventus fans even acknowledging that they went invincible
Unfortunate that this story has completely drowned out the story of Gasparini and Atalanta. Gasparini called a loser for his whole career and Atalanta a team who makes profit ever year topples an unbeaten team that has never been seen with a team of "rejects"
