Great job for one of the many great songs from the band. Mark’s Fingerstyle is so underrated…

One of THE BEST bass lines of ALL TIME and one of Mark's best. AWESOME job, brother. This is one of the many songs that just blow my mind. This song is a son of a bitch to get right. I don't know what Mark's super powers are from. Drumming ? Not only is this song NEARLY impossible to play, but he's SINGING while playing it. My GAWD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mark King and Geddy Lee are pioneers !!!!!!!

Not many people cover this song on bass. I've always thought the finger style section after the slap section was the hardest to hear on the record and get right. This has to be the closest. Great job.

@@marcusbellbass1375 yeah, that would be cool. The Ryde 2000 version Mark did was great. Although I'd always have liked the bass higher in the mix.

Hi Marcus Though it's an older upload it just shown up on my KZread Channel & I actually think you get a better sound in this demo than what Mark King gets when playing it Live... Nice One Ps I meant to ask in my usual emails what gauge do you use when doing Mark's Bass Lines as I find the 30 To 90 are what I need because of , get this , my small hands... Funny but alas true... I can get away with playing 35 to 95 & though the rest of my basses are higher gauges it just too much on the fingers doing Mark's slapping but Larry Graphan along with Louis Johnson & all the great pioneers I can play on higher gauge strings but not Mark's... Sweet looking bass also I've never seen one in thar finish before... Great Bass Cover but then again that's what you do very well... All The Best Marcus .....

@@marcusbellbass1375 Hi Marcus , I though they might be 30 To 90 as its easier to get certain parts Mark is playing & though i have my collection up from light to mid to heavy strings & though its still possible to play slap on heavy gauge strings they seriously hold you back when it comes to trying bend strings like strings like Mark King & eventually many many years ago when i fist played bass guitar for the first year but being a nooby & there was no internet like there its today i just happened to walk into our local Instrument Stone & though they had predominantly mid to heavy gauge string but there were only 2 sets of 30 To 90 Rotosound Roundwounds & i was about to leave when he asked me who i was into & what genres i liked & i mention quite a few (as i have a wide ecletic taste in music) & i eventually mentioned Mark King & thats when he told me that 30 To 90 was the gauge of strings he used... Needless to say that finding that out completely helped me with my ongoing practice as the old Squire Columbus Jazz Bass Guitar i bought for my first bass guitar as i didnt have much money back then but even though i felt the price to high & decided to buy it as he stay in the scheme i did & if i wanted to play bass guitar i'd have somewhere!.. That Squire Columbus Jazz Bass Guitar was destroying my fingers but as i practiced i used everything that Squire was not what i needed but i kept fighting back against it & id use ever negative while trying to play on that bass as a positive because as soon as i did buy a new bass guitar i could literally play as i pleased as using everything that was wrong with it i made it work for me once i bought a better bass guitar & playing tge new bass guitar was so easy to play as it didnt fight me like that seriously piece of cr*p Squire Columbus Jazz Bass Guitar used to used to... I really like that finish on that bass your were playing & i wondered if it was bought like that or had it re-sprayed but either way you got a great sound for one of my favourite Level 42 songs & even on their ladt tour that saw Mark go back to using a JD Supernatural Series I Bass Guitar again as it was an anniversay tour but the previous year it got cancelled as the world & especially in the UK was really being strict with Full Lockdowns & the time i thought they'll lift the ban & ease up with their restrictions but it went the other way & it and all live concerts ( as far as i know ) were cancelled & all the solo acts & bands had tk except that all the money spent on bookings & what they were going play like on the night of those concerts were all scrapped for a Full Year ( me thinks) as i know in Scotland ,the City of Glasgow was stayed in a Full Lockdown for 8 consecutive months in a row... As Alway it was a you to watch & hear you play & as always " All The Best " .....
