Lev Yashin was not easy to beat
The man, the myth, the legend.. Lev Yashin.
Nicknamed "The Black Spider", this man remains the only goalkeeper who won a Ballon d'Or.
Great positioning, reflexes, reactions and important saves.
He is an inspiration to all goalkeepers and it is easy to understand why.

The over 150 pk saves is obvs bs. Don't forget that the balls used during his era made goalkeeping a lot more tougher. His career was in between the period before and after the introduction of the 32 panel design so balls weren't as accurate in shape and lacked optimum roundness which made it incredibly harder to judge when hit and even more tough to handle. Aerial balls were tough to predict due to the inconsistency in movement but yashin literally handles it like he could catch it even when asleep lol.

@@norpriest521 it's very wrong to compare footballers of different eras. Seems Yashin was that good he even won the golden ball and his playstyle reminding Neuer's one that was unusual with combo of libero position and quiet good goalkeeping. I remember when at the England vs The Rest of the World game at Wembley in October 1963, Yashin was in goal for the Rest of the World team in the 1st half, a cross from the English left wing was met by the England Centre-forward Bobby Smith, with a firm header, Yashin was at the near post, so he had to throw himself from that side of the goal to tip Smiths header over the bar! One of the best saves that I have ever seen, on a par with Gordon Banks save, to deny Pele in the World Cup in Mexico 1970!

The Rest of the World only lost that game after Yashin was replaced by Soskic whose mistake led to England's winning goal scored by Greaves.
'The black spider' was his nickname, I heard stories from my family about him, total legend.

When I was child, I was impressed by Dino Zoff (Italy & Juventus). These pictures of Lev Yashin remind me Dino Zoff.
The first goalkeeper I ever saw save a penalty in a game - not a common thing back in the day. Of course much more common now a days. He is truly a legend.
He not only won the Ballon d'Or and besides multiple Goalkeeper of the year awards, he won the title of Goalkeeper of the 20th century. He also was in the Allstar team of said century. Century...! the most stunning for me was that he also played as a professional goalkeeper in hockey. Wtf. In Germany he was mostly called "The Black Panther".

You can't recognize how good players are from older times, unless they are legends. This guy is obviously great, adding the fact that this was 50+ yrs old, it means he is a certified legend in this game.
