Letting a Longtime Friend Down

Ойын-сауық

The plaintiff has known the defendant for almost 40 years. She says she rented a car for the defendant because the defendant needed a way to get to work, but the plaintiff has not been paid back. She’s suing for the outstanding car rental bill. The defendant doesn’t think she owes the plaintiff because she argues she already paid the plaintiff.

After I got paid a large job loss severance package, my good friend immediately asked me for a loan that she would pay back at “tax time”. I said no because I’m unemployed and have to live off that severance. She stopped talking to me for years. But I still had my money. 😁

My brother has a great lending rule... he doesn't. He says you lend someone $100 and they don't pay it back, you lose the friend and your $100. If they ask you to lend them $100 and you say "no" you lose a friend but still have your $100. Makes perfect sense to me!

How embarrassing for the defendant. The plaintiff tried to help her out and she behaved this way. She knew she was in the wrong judging by the miserable look on her face. She really did a horrible thing and then sent those nasty texts. Like JM said, she is really not a nice person. Hopefully other people see this and it will stop anybody else loaning her money. She deserved that dressing down from JM. When asked things she was very vague with things like 'I paid her 200 or 300 dollars', 'I think It was 900, 'it was more like 4 weeks', 'I think it was like 1200 I don't know'. Why doesn't she know? Because she is making it up. Even if she thought that she didn't owe the 1000 she admitted at the end that she knew she owed 250. Why had she not at least paid that?

Coming from someone who works for a car rental company, it is required that whoever is going to be driving that rental be on the contract and show a valid license at the time of rental. If not, that person is not permitted to drive the rental. Due to this fact, if the defendant was ever in an accident, the renter (plaintiff) would be held responsible for any damages and both would more than likely be placed on a “do not rent” list.

May I ask you a question please? 🤔 😊 How come rental cars are / seems to be a huge and big thing in USA? In my country (and many others I know of) people only rent cars in emergencies (stolen, accident or burned down "electric fault" aka the neighbor juuuust kidding 😁😁) or companies with big wallets (but they are clever and buy their own pool of cars), but in the US it seems people rent rentals like there was no tomorrow and: a) to a high price b) for the joy 😂 of it, instead of buying a car 🚙 and avoiding the high costs of renting. During my life I don't know 😃 of anyone that rented or rent car. But maybe people haven't told me about their intimate relationship with their renting place...😊 LOL 😂 🤣

This is why it’s a very bad idea to rent or buy anything for a “friend, sibling, cousin, ex-boyfriend, etc., by the way, burning bridges everywhere is hard way to go through life cuz people have long memories & we gossip!! When your career gets shipped overseas, your spouse becomes ill, & you can no longer afford to buy expensive presents for birthdays, showers, housewarmings, Christmas, can no longer host Thanksgiving & Fourth of July parties........it's amazing how fast the invitations & visits dry up & the phone stops ringing. It's better just to gift the money than to loan so theres no such anticipation of getting the money back. Unfortunately something always goes wrong with loans. Now a friendship over 40 years is over because of it. Thankfully I don't loan or gift rather keep my money to myself. So none of this shit will ever happen to me.

I needed a loan back when I was younger. It was not a small amount but $10k. I knew a friend who had money and I asked him. I made a plan for it and offered him interest or I forgot if it was the other way around. Either way it took me almost 6yrs to pay him back but it felt awesome to pay him all his money plus interest. To that I am very thankful and blessed he had a heart to lend me the money. $10k is a lot and anyone can easily run away with it if they don’t care. But in my eyes his money is his money and it is my responsibility to make sure his $10k was returned to him because he helped me when I needed it and asked for it for the bind I was in. Anyways our friendship didn’t get stronger only stayed the same. But that favor/extension of friendship will always be marked in my life as a huge thank you to him. Now it’s my turn to give money to someone I love in his need. And the way I see it, I will give it to him not lend it to him. The lady in this video should have been a better person and paid her friend.

You mention the interest a couple of times and (might be wrong) but it reads like you feel you did them a favour by paying interest. You didn't. That's money they actually lost by lending to you, it was a cost they paid for to let you have their money. I don't know what interest you paid but over a six year period that could be quite a bit, not to mention the inconvenience of not having their $10k to hand if they needed it for something. Glad you paid it back though, and glad you appreciate what a huge favour he did for you, so many don't.

The expressions on the people in the galleries, are so amusing or disgusting. The teenagers are the funniest. Why do people ask that their last names and business be withheld and they are on national tv. People will use other people!! The son is cute as a button. That teenager in the royal blue sweater is cute and likes the plantiff's son.she can't keep her eyes off of him. These teenagers, are mostly cute and well behaved. Are they high school students, coming as a class. The plantiff should have known ,the defendant was shady!! The plantiff should have questioned the defendant before renting a car. Car rentals charge by the day and according to the type of car, plus insurance, misc. expenses. 4 weeks can truly be up to $1000.00 or more. The plantiff would have the paperwork and both women would. have been on the contract as drivers. Also if you extend the rental it cost more. NEVER SIGN FOR A CAR OR RENTAL OR ANYTHING,WITHOUT A CONTRACT TO PAY BACK,REPAY ANY OTHER EXPENSES. BE RESPONSIBLE. SO CALLED FRIENDS,WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE,BUT FAMILY WILL TOO!! How did the plantiff rent the car without a credit car. Most rental companies,do not take cash. They will do debit cards. How do you rent a car and not know what you are signing??? People do pay back in cash and friends trust each other, but rule of thumb. Do not sign for anything without a contract. The plantiff was stupid!! and the defendant was just wrong. She should have got money orders and receits. I had to learn the extremely hard way,not to co- sign or loan any money. EVEN FAMILY WILL USE YOU!. I think, the lady did give her some money but not much and didnt get a receit, but her attituded def says she was scamming her friend. Judge Milan wasn't adding or multiplying correctly. $250x 4= $1,000.00 Nice human beings don't do ugly things and pay their bills. Never loan anything over$20 and make it a gift, because ,more than likely ,you won't get it back. The plantiff has probably given her money in the past and maybe got it back, but I am sure,it wasn't large amounts. The defendant used their friendhip to scam her friend and probably did it to others and they got tired of it. I bet she used the money to pay her bills,so she could get her license back and her credit card She may have been lying from the beginning and just used her friend so she could save her own money and pay bills. she could have borrowed money and paid her bills. the plantiff is better off without the friendship. I hope the Plantiff learned a lesson.
