The most shocking scene in James Cameron's "The Abyss" is watching a harrowing underwater accident, followed by a cut to Chris watching it on a monitor. It really killed the tension.

I can't understand why at least ONE late night host doesn't just copy 100% what Letterman did in the '80's and '90's. He/she could even get Chris Elliott back for bits like this - - and Chris' Marlon Brando impression. I'd watch (or record) this kind of show every night.

Does anyone have a clip of the old skit where Chris Elliot plays "The Dupper" - a little dog in a box, with Elliot's face superimposed over the dog's face, and talking to Dave. He tells Dave: "Hi, Dave, I'm The Dupper... and we're gonna be best friends, for ever, and ever, and EVER!!!" It is SO HILARIOUS!!! I think it was circa 1985 or 86, and it was the last "Viewer Mail" out of 4 or 5 hilarious viewer mails. I used to have it on a VHS tape a long time ago, that is how I remember...

If that's the same show I'm thinking of, Dave was _not_ pleased. No more "Mr. Nice Guy", the veneer of congeniality with the crew he likes to project was totally gone, and despite Dave's best efforts to pass it off and appear jovial, the hard ass _Mister_ Letterman was quite apparent. Sometime before Letterman's arrival on set, it seems that regular guy Murray had gotten a genuine, somewhat loose, party atmosphere going with the the crew (the _very thought_ sincerely treating the "help" as equals) and Massa *did not* like it one little bit. I'd be willing to bet good money there were firings, at least of some of those not well protected by a union.
