LETS PAINT and WEATHER the interior and engine of the TAKOM early version Jagdpanzer38 / Hetzer 1/35

Ойын-сауық

Join me in todays video where I take you through the steps I took to build, paint and weather the interior elements and the engine bay for the NEW Takom Hetzer (early version) in 1/35th scale.
This is the first part of the series and I aim to bring you the next stages during the coming weeks. Whilst I have tried to bring you accurate information about this build, I am in no way an authority on the subject, so I'd encourage you to do your own research. A great place to start in the facebook page Tracey Hancock and Sam Dwyer have put together -

Thank you very much for the movie. The kit is waiting on my shelf to be done in next months. It will be my first interior kit. I will definetly use your movie as a guidence. Well, I have also second interior kit, stug3 from border models, but since you give some many hints and tips about hetzer, it has to wait in the que. Regards, Greg

Hey mate. Thanks for your comments. You make a really good point re the novice/beginner modeller and it’s a demographic I need to cater to a little better I think. Obviously my builds are my builds and I’ll continue to share them as they are, but I’m planning on doing more videos aimed at the beginner. I’m so pleased my passion is coming across. I really hope it inspires people to get involved themselves. 💪👍🙏

Great work!!! This video was just the thing I needed!!! I just recently purchased this kit, without the interior, and this one video answered nearly all of my questions about the interior!!! The model I have came with the full ammo racks and 75mm rounds plus the automatic rifle and other bits and bobs, but no where in the instructions does it show how to assemble and mount them to the floor and walls of the tank. With the other interior pieces included, I was disappointed that the radio set was not included in the kit I have, oh well I’ll just build one from scratch following some frozen stills from the video. I’ll also scratch build the seats for the driver, loader, and gunner. I’m enjoying the build series for this kit, and cannot wait to begin the build of this kit!!! As someone else has already said,” this is my styrene sanctuary!!” G, day!!

Hey William. Thanks for taking the time to say Gday 😁 Don’t take my interior as gospel…there were a few things in there that probably shouldn’t be…but if all you were wanting to do was to add some volume to the interior when peeking through hatches then it should be good enough. Hope you are enjoying the channel 🙏🍺👍

@@workbenchhobbies4316 That was the idea I had based on your work. I’m not trying to recreate the interior, but rather the seats and the radio stack to fill the voids. Great work mate, I’m very happy to have stumbled upon your KZread channel!!! The picture you showed of the stacks of ammunition was also outstanding!!! The 75mm ammunition in my kit will be painted in thirds, red, yellow, and green; I presume for anti personnel rounds, some amor piercing, and incendiary?? Great job on your build!! I’ll be fortunate if mine turns out half as good as yours!! G’day mate!!

One thing I try to tell myself is, who the hell is gonna look at my model and go “Dude, those brackets are wrong” When I got the model in the mail the box looked way small, I had to remind myself is it’s a smaller tank, didn’t even look like scale at first. The interior build for the Hetzer looks great Clayton! I think any sort of interior modelling is way past my skill level at the moment I am afraid, even though I have been tempted a few times. Takom is my favourite kit manufacturer, and they produce some amazing armour models, many with beautifully made interior components, and I have often thought about giving them a go. However, I always think that putting all that work into a detailed interior, and then covering it up so it can’t be seen, is maybe a waste of time and effort. Maybe the experience itself would be worthwhile? Anyhow, I wait eagerly to see the Hetzer come together, and look forward to the next episodes. Cheers from a fellow Aussie😊!

I have noticed in a unboxing video from someone they also received a clear part for the interior front plate. In all my boxes there wasn't one. My dealer (MBK) is contacting TAKOM about it. Bit of an odd part anyway as that part would have been behind the front armor plate. I am going to build at least one of mine as a befehlspanzer, just need to take a good look at the armored pod for the antenna. Thank you for this video, gives me a good inspiration for mine.

There is a limited edition selling in Asia. So if you'd order the kit there, you'd get that. I did order a Mid and a Late one .... Hey Stuart. I’d usually mention it if I had in the video..but truth is I can’t remember…but I don’t think so. I paint with lacquers so varnishes aren’t really required if all I’m doing is adding a pin wash. I’d usually only varnish if I was sealing an enamel effect or preparing for decals. After looking at whatever Hetzer references can be found (not enough), I believe that Takom modelled this interior from a photo book without visiting a real vehicle. And I believe that photo book depicted one specific restored Command Hetzer. Which, unfortunately, is not a perfect restoration.

The interior is sadly a G-13, mostly. The engine compartment is a mid/late variant, reasonably. But on the other hand, who will ever know if the model is done well. Full authenticity ... So both BMM and SKODA changed things along production. Sometimes older parts ended up on a later vehicle. In the field broken parts got replaced by whatever was available. Hence there is only reasonable authenticity, not absolute. Perhaps Rye Field or MiniArt will pick up the subject ...

@@thomasroell5255 Thank you for contributing. What parts, specifically, seem to be G13 specific? I know that the radio and transformers in the firewall are correct. The second radio is an inappropriate collection of mismatched items, but they seem to be WW2 German despite that. And the items on the left side wall? The red cylinder is the tuner for the Fu 8, nothing wrong with that. But the rest? I see the fuse box for the Fu 5 but I suspect it's out of place. And the intercom box seems OK.

Nice work Clayton, I use Ivory for German interiors, not 100% sure but I think the allied vehicles had white interiors, I haven't done a full interior kit yet, but have a few in my stash, actually I've done a 16th scale Jagdtiger with full interior, so hard to find good reference photos for colours.

Hey John. YeH, cremeweiss I think it’s called. Although that may well have changed somewhere along the way. I used an sms colour called German cream, and the pre shade tends to warm the colour up also. Plus the washes shift it even further. Appreciate your feedback

It is presenting a little more white than I was expecting, perhaps I’d recommend a touch of sand or dark yellow to that German Cream for next time

@@workbenchhobbies4316 this is why I use Ivory, it looks like a dull cream, and nothing like White.

I’m thinking of putting a yellow filter on this before closing it up. I was hoping the red brown pre shade would have shifted it more than it did. Watch this space…

Hey 👋 Thanks for your question. I try to show every step in these videos, so if you don’t see it then no…I didn’t prime the interior parts. Painting with lacquers means priming parts isn’t always required. Thanks again for joining in 🙏🍺😆
