What an amazing time to be part of this wonderful hobby of scale modelling.. Never before has there been the level of detail, the range of product or the accessibility of ideas than right now.
My aim for Workbench Hobbies (formerly The Workbench), is to showcase, not only my work, but to help other showcase theirs. Workbench Hobbies shares our hobby through imagery, ideas, techniques as well as offering specialty product through our online store. It is my hope, that in time, the site will evolve into a valuable resource for all to use, or just be a place where people can come and enjoy looking around.
One of my goals when re-entering this hobby after many years on the sideline, was to connect with like minded people from all over the world.
I am an enthusiast, passionate about the hobby and the subjects it is based around. Please share with me in showcasing the art of scale modelling. Clayton Ockerby

Great stuff. Very informative, eg: I finally learnt what wet palettes do. Thanks. 1 observation = please include straps and slings with buckles, etc (you can get away with just painting metallics for the latter) for figures, especially for small arms. It adds so much to the overall effect. Always. Insignia's always a big plus as well, although special forces eschew a lot of that.
Great show! Thanks for sharing 💥👍💥
My pleasure 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it
Some great looking models here, that SC1 Seahawk is indeed spectacular all around, that looks like so much work to get it all done along with such a beautiful scene.
It certainly couldn’t be missed! Hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for joining in ☝️🙏👍
A great tour of the show clayton well done!
Thanks mate. Appreciate your support 🙏💪
Great vid mate. Thank you for the plug as well
Pleasure mate. Always great to catch up 🙏💥👌🏼
Hi Clayton, that looked to bedt a great model show/display, there certainly was a lot of outstanding builds, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Melbourne, Les
Thanks Les. Always a good show. Hope you enjoyed the video 🙏🕺🏽
The Skycrane and inflight Seakings were the winners for me! Great presentation Clayton, really enjoyed it! Cheers, Chris
Glad you enjoyed it Chris. Thanks for checking in 👍🙏
hello Mr Clayton, thank you for the show,my favourite is the fantastic Porsche 917 K Gulf!i love Gulf cars, and well done for the magnificent Mirage 2000!amity from France i'm on your Facebook this day,Patrick
Hey Patrick. That Mirage was pretty amazing wasn’t it?! Thanks for your support. Hope you are enjoying the channel 💥👍🙏
Hi Clayton! It looks like this was a great show, and I would have loved to attend. Congrats on showing the Hetzer mate, as it was one of my favourite builds on the channel. Did I also see the Leopard 2 in there? How did they place (a Gold I’me sure)? There were some fantastic models on display in all genres, and some of the Junior entries were also exceptional and put my efforts to shame. Great coverage mate. Cheers for now!
Hey Gary. Yeah, the leopard was there. It did ok 👌🏼. I was really impressed with some of those junior entries too. The Centurion in particular was very tidy. Always great seeing the junior entries. Thanks as always for joining in 👍💪🙏
Congrats Andrew!
Position of periscopes at commander coupola are not correct.
Yeah - that is a Takom issue and something I wasnt aware of at the time. But thanks for the input
Cheers all and big a thankyou to Clayton for the opportunity. Very chuffed scoring this beast!
Congratulations again Andrew
Greetings from USA 🇺🇸
Hey Joe. Greetings to you too, but you are a couple of months late for the competition. Appreciate you connecting here 🙏👍
I brought the 3 kit Big Box. My only complaint is the track assembly. Otherwise an awesome kit.
Yeah, the tracks do take some effort. Just approach them methodically and with patience. They weren’t as bad as i thought they could have been. Good luck with the build 🍀🤞💪🙏
Noice noice, grats
Fabulous!!!!❤😁
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 🕺🏽💪👍
Спасибо за ролик. Буду брать такой тигр🎉
Fantastic! I’m so pleased you enjoyed it 🙏 Thanks for your comments
Sloppy work no doubt. 👍
Grats Andrew 👍☕🐢
Brilliant - enjoy the build Andrew
Congrats!
👍 👍
Congrats Andrew
Congratulations
Can you expound on how you added the graphics to the base? I am intending to do this on future projects and like the look of yours.
Hi. The design is all done through Adobe Illustrator, but really you could do it through anything. The print is done on a digital printer (I have access to sign printers) on vinyl and then mounted to a thin styrene. There is a mounting film on the back of the styrene. You’d probably have to go see your local sign shop or officeworks for them to print it for you. Alternatively if you printed on paper, laminated to and used double sided tape you would get a similar result Hope that helps
can't get much better than @BrailleScale comment :) . wanted to add that if you have not glued the hip joints, there is some movement (even if you glued the hoses). just built one of these and that slight movement allows you to get a solid stance.
Oh! Testing my memory now, but I don’t think I glued any of the articulated parts in this one. Appreciate you taking the time to comment 🙏👍
Good build and the story it tells (funny take on the bird and on the vodka bottles). Interesting how 3D printing allows for many things in this hobby (such as adding more things) and how it can be indeed such a game changer as well. Also , I agree with one of the commentators saying “anything to polish” because that is indeed such a time consuming process and it’s always good to get a model that has a straightforward build with almost minimal polish and sanding 😂😂
Hey Leonardo. I still find ways to complicate these easy builds 🫣 Appreciate you taking the time to comment 🙏💪
saw this at illawarra - was amazing!
That’s very kind. Thanks Wade. Glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate you taking the time to comment 🙏
3d printer video would be nice
Great suggestion. I’m only at the start of my 3d print journey so not sure how qualified I am…Maybe something for the future. 💪👍
And you tell me you can’t paint figures. Come on dude. 👌👌
Thanks buddy. No where near your league…I just use them to help tell the story. Appreciate you joining in 🙏👍🕺🏽
Amazing job, soldiers looks amazing
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
We all know you’ve been holding on to that Village People clip for a while waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it 😂
😆😆 it was from my private collection. Glad you enjoyed it 😆😉
I saw this one at the show last week, I don’t think the video quite does the finish justice. All of them looked amazing on the table!
Thanks Matt. It can be a little tricky to film these things sometimes. Did you like the turntable for the reveal or do you prefer the still pics?
@@workbenchhobbies4316 I didn't mean for the comment to be a critique of your filming or production. I believe that all print and video media will fall short in displaying our hobby, in the same way it's better to go to the museum to see these pieces rather than just photos online. I think the turntable shot is the closest you can get to actually seeing it with your own eyes without being there
Didn’t for a second take it as a criticism. Appreciate you taking the time to connect 🙏👍
Damn Clayton! Your paintwork on the flesh tones and eyes are top notch mate! Faces are my weakest aspect of figure painting. You deserve a healthy dose of Tim Tams & coffee after that precision paint work!
😆😆 thanks Jim. I think my faces have a long way to go, but thank you for your kind words. Now…where’s that coffee 🤔😉
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Well earned praise Clayton. I was really impressed by all the entries in this group build. BTW, I will be a guest on the "Aussie Scale Modeller" live chat set for 11am Sunday morning your time. Feel free to stop in and say hi. Take care, Jim
Oh cool. If I’m in a position to have a look I will for sure 👌🏼 good luck 🤞 🍀💥
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Thanks Clayton 🙂
Good to see you adding figures in a fitting way - much better than a person just standing. Telling a story/ snippet of a scene is a great goal. Well done!
Thanks Jamie. I do love figure painting and including them with my models. It’s something I’d really like to improve in future. Thanks for taking the time to connect 💪👍
If only. Heroyum Slava, Slava Ukraini!
Thanks for joining it. Hope you are enjoying the channel 👍🙏
This was an interesting subject and build Clayton, and the final result is awsome. I was impressed by the figures as well, as my efforts to paint a presentable figure to accompany my own builds have been disappointing to say the least, and they tend to end up on the “shelf of shame”. This certainly was a subject that is out of the ordinary, but you nailed it. Cheers for now mate!
Thanks Gary. I think the figures are adequate without being extraordinary. Trust me…I’ve had my share of failures too. Appreciate your support as always 👍👍🙏
hello, very good history!thanks for the tips for painting, and sculpting the soidiers, your vignette is amazing,i love the bird and the bottles of vodka!amity from France,Patrick
Many thanks Patrick. Thanks for joining in 🙏💪
All the builds look amazing, and the scene is just hilarious,I seriously started laughing at the seagull attacking a soldier Who isn’t scared of fighting a war,but terrified of a seagull 😂 Great job Clayton!
😉 glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for your support ☝️
Ну ты, дядя, и сказочник!!! 🤣🤣🤣
🤩 I hope it’s a good story! Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙏
I just ordered some twist drills off amazon last night if only I waited 😂
All good. Never any obligation to buy through these suppliers. Thanks for your support 👍💪
@workbenchhobbies4316 no but if it's good enough for you then I'll give it a go and I have just finished my first ever KZread video just going to edit it and upload it so others can follow my journey back into the greatest hobby in the world
Fantastic news! Good luck 🤞
@workbenchhobbies4316 thank you
Wicked Tiger! Honestly, pretty wicked! Love the tutorials as always- thank you!
Glad you like them! Good luck! Drawn this weekend 🙏💪🕺🏽
How do you know which bits need to be painted before instalijg and which bits need sub assembly it always confuses me
Guess it comes down to experience and planning. When applying masks I’m trying to keep the surfaces as flat as I can do they sit correctly. But each build is different and every modeller approaches it differently. Just have a go and you will develop your own style 💪🍀☝️
Love the idea of the information cards around the edge genius
Glad you liked it! Just makes the base a little more functional doesn’t it. Thanks for joining in mate 🙏
Wow I really live what you did with the cut out I'd like to have a go at that my self I'm gonna look for an interior kit build as always brilliant video and very informative and I always like it when you reference vallejo paints as that's what I use so I can relate then 😂
Glad you enjoyed it Joe. Just be brave with your models and try new things. It might not work the first time, but you never know…it could be a masterpiece! Always look for the lesson. Vallejo paints are good. I used to use them almost exclusively. Thanks for watching the back catalogue ☝️🤩💪
Wicked Tiger!!!!!!!
Good luck 🤞 😉🍀🐯
really liked what you did with this and as always, great to catch up at the show on weekend! Thanks DD
Thanks Darren. Was all a bit of fun. Appreciate your support 💪🙏
I like these takom kits they look really good im gonna invest in pne and i like the udea if the hetzer
Hey Joe. Generally speaking their kits are very good. They can get a little tricky in parts but a little patience sees them build up beautifully. Thanks for connecting 🙏🍀
@workbenchhobbies4316 yeah I really like them I'm gonna have a look for one in my price range and give it a go
Tiger tiger burning bright, in the forests of the night.. Wicked tiger! I hate to weather my models but I have to :D
Wicked Tiger
Good luck! Prize will be drawn soon 🤞🐯🍀
Impressive paint and weathering effects, I just bought this kit. Your videos will be very helpful throughout the build to weathering. Thanks for posting!
Thanks Bill. Glad you are getting some value from them. Appreciate your support 🙏💪
