Fun fact. Shawarma comes from the Turkish word Çevirme. Which means rotation. The kebab in this video is Çağ kebap, you need to ask for more seasoning or sauces. Otherwise turkish kebabs prefer you taste the quality of the meat and fat. Coating meat in herbs makes you focus on the herbs and not the meat quality.

Love to our brothers in Turkiye, and to you in Pakistan. From a Azerbaijani🇦🇿❤️🇹🇷🇵🇰
This is just one variety of Turkish kebab called "cağ kebabı", and it's mainly focused around the meat itself. The wrap is there to keep your hands clean, and you don't usually make "wrap" or "dürüm/döner" out of this like you'd traditionally do. You just eat it in small bites, as big as the individual cuts of meat itself. If you want real "döner" experience, look for the vertical spits, not horizontal. Also, I'd recommend you to try Adana kebab or Urfa kebab.

Food like döner and kebap are usually more delicious on the east side of turkey, as there are more farms and animals, there. We usually eat meat on the east, vegetables and fish on the west side of turkey.
İn Turkey Kebab has so much various things if u go for just trip in Turkey. Like Antakya usülü soslu döner is has special sauce, Adana Kebab is spicy and chilli, İskender is not wrapped and it has butter mix with tomato sauce and yoghurt on it and much more
The version of the kebab that became popular in germany and later surrounding countries has more veggies and sauce on it, honestly it's the perfect fast food

My bro I'm sorry to mention it to you but that Kebap you just ate is the most simple and casual one out of the 100 different kinds of kebaps in Turkey 😅 I would recommend either iskender or beyti kebap if you love it with sauce like me. If you want it to be spicy go to a restaurant that makes food from Adana or just a "pide and kebap" based restaurant and you will definitely find Adana kebap there which the natives of Adana put EXTRA pepper or anything spicy over anything that can be consumed. And as a cherry on top you should drink Shalgam, I dont want to explain what it is drink it and find out :)
If you are still in İstanbul, you should definitely try Tubiş Mantı Evi. It is in Acıbadem, Asian side. It is not very traditional but you can try new flavors like çiğ börek which has minced meat in it and its outside is crispy or you can try mantı which is just like ravioli.

Shawarma comes from the word "çevirme" in Turkish. "Çevirme, döner" means "turning" and it refers to the big meat on the stick that you've seen. So chicken shawarma and the thing you ate "cağ kebabı" are both made from this big piece of meat and they're just variables of it, different types of kebab.

This is çağ kebap. usually High quality lamb meat grilled on a horizontal open flame. It's a cooking method the ottomans used back in the day. Turkey also has döner wich is more like shawarma, but you can have it in a few different breads rather than just wrapped, also turkish people usually put ketchup and mayo on theirs xd
That's the most common kebab in Indonesia. It is so common that most people only know this version of kebab and not the other versions. I was honestly surprised that they didn't put any kind of condiments to make it more flavorful because we usually use chili sauce and mayo. Also, that kebab looks super dry, but that's probably because of the traditional way of cooking it
@tomi1455

No its not. The one in indonesia is actually shawarma but they just call it kebab. Thats why it has mote stuff in it.

That's lovely. Sometimes simple dishes can be the best, especially when it's not your cheat day ;)
For letting the people and you know, Shawarma is coming from "Çevirme" means rotstionary in turkish, which the "kebap" you ate is the original shawarma. We turkish people eat usually simple, so thats why there is no sauce like the others have, but usually you can eat it with yogurt, tomato sauce and well thats just how it is. Hope that people see this and learn about the cultural food of ours
This is horizontal style and mostly preferred eaten with just as it's not a wrap so that's a most probably why looks much simple then shwarma but next time check regular doner if you would like something similar with but I highly recommend liver sish wrap or lamb wrap
Nice video! Gully you should also try a durum doner wrap!

Am from Turkey. What you're eating is a "döner kebap" or "et dürüm"(red meat wrap), we simply call it döner here. Yes it's a lot less saucey than a schwarma, but it's still pretty good, we simply love it for the meat and nothing else. What we refer to as a "kebap" here in Turkey is usually an "Adana kebap" or "Urfa kebap"(there are many kebap variations, these two are the most common ones so they earned the right to be called just kebap 😂) which are super seasoned beef-lamp mixture meat which is a lot better than any other meat. It's heaven. I hope you had a chance to try that out

Would have been so cool to see you try other turkish dishes
Kebap usually have garlic sause and a LOT more meat and vegetables. You just had back luck on the seller
Go try one in germany trust me way more ingredients and sauce
In istanbul u have to be careful about which place do you order from cuz in some places like taksim they can fool you and put less meat in ur bread, it's also better to order from place that measures the meat in front of you
Its some of the reason i am not a huge turkish food fan because its to simple with flavours
Shawarma is like equal to durum in turkey bc they have the same ingredients like sauce ,chicken, etc
As a Turk. I confirm it’s shawarma but is beef instead
Try a German Döner Kebap, ideally in Berlin. Most „German Kebap“ stores outside of Germany are mostly very bad. There is one in Canada, Ottawa though which is really good. Its called „German Doner Kebap“ its with sauce and all very good
you should try hatay style kebab if you wan‘t your kebab with sauce, there are a lot of different kebab types in türkiye, also you chose a random spot, you could‘ve definitely found a better place to try turkish kebab (this type of kebab is called çağ kebab, the special thing about it is the horizontal rotisserie)
Ngl i love the simpleness of this and especially i treasure good meat. These places can be a flop but also a top and if the meat is good, imma stay with this. Shwarma is prolly more like "Donas" in turkey, but i personally dont like the sauces on a kebab, and rather enjoy the taste of the meat. This one had a lil to less meat tho
This one you need to eat right of the skewer pure lamb taste with just a bit of salt and pepper if im not wrong
