Let's Try to Get Some Shine Out of This Ruined Barn Find Paint

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I finally have time to work on the barn find Morris 1300 again. It runs and drives however it still needs a lot of work before it can go back on the road. In this video it's time to shine the paint. Can we get it looking better even though it's pretty much ruined?

Looks much better! I own a professional detailing shop and I would strongly recommend to first clay bar the car. well of course right after the quick basic rinse/wash step. Going over it first with a Clay bar would remove a lot of the oxidized paint and other contaminants faster. We've done this to hundreds of old barn fines etc. and I've professionally paint restored thousands of cars. and I can't stress enough how well a good thorough Clay bar step works on first pulling off all contaminants and oxidization from paint. especially darker colours like red etc. Then follow with your polish- compound steps and wax steps. Or even easier do the clay bar step then simply finish with that three in one Maguires but actually apply it with a buffer with a soft pad. The Maguires three in one can work magic when applied with a buffer! because it's a polish and wax in one it's designed to do both the polishing and leave the wax coating behind in one application step. Of course wax the areas you can't reach with the buffer by hand. In fact I would've recommended simply a quick wash on the car than Clay bar than simply buff on the Maguires three in one with the buffer. It would only be two steps and would've turned out even better! But doing all three steps Clay bar then compound and then the three in one would have made it even more shiny. Adding the clay bar step on a smaller car actually saves time on the other steps because of how much faster the other steps would go if the Clay bar step was done first. i've been professionally detailing for 30 years and I can't stress enough how important doing a Clay bar step is the most important thing when trying to make faded doll paint look better. Trust me it would pull off the worst contamination quickly and easily so whatever you do next is much easier and the final result turns out much better. The one major rule in our shop we've learned is is that if a car has not had a Cla ybar step done to it in the last year then no matter what it definitely needs the Clay bar step more than anything else. don't always trust your eyes as well. If the car isn't pretty smooth to the touch in the first place and it definitely needs to have a clay bar step. Clay bar literally pulls contamination out of the paint. Where compound/polish helps move things out but I can tell there's still quite a bit of contamination still there that wasn't pulled out. Still turned out really good for a quick and dirty! Clay bar is very cheap would love to see in another video you use a Claybar and you'd be amazed at how much crappy oxidized stuff you'd see on the Claybar as you did the Claybar step. That's another great indicator of how much stuff you didn't pull out or would have not pulled out if not Claybar step. Your Claybar would have been filthy even after the first few passes on a car like that which would represent how much contamination would have been pulled off. Anyways still a great video and still great results! Keep up the great work Adam.

@@LivingWithAClassic They were rare, but America was toying with small cars at the time, so they weren't the only small cars on the roads. The first of the Honda Civics were as small as a BMC 1100! It can be intimidating to drive such small cars on American roads, among the enormous vehicles that dominate the roads. In fact, a friend gave me this Austin America for free, when he concluded that he felt unsafe driving it.

The word of the day is "Patina". The older I get the more I appreciate saving original paint on cars that are "drivers" and even older resprays that have aged well. This is a car that didn't have such a great paint job from the factory and even with chips (aka "Character" ) the car looks like it's only a few years old and I doubt anyone buying it would be embarrassed to drive it as is. I wouldn't.

I never take my XJ6 S3 out unless I've polished it. I get so many admiring glances. Little do they know the myriad of minor issues there are. Like the windows won't open, the cassette player sounds like a whoopee cushion, to name just two, but it looks fantastic.

Adam, in a nice way you are driving me nuts. It’s not a Maurice it’s a Morris. Mo rr is Morris. But don’t worry I’ll forgive the pronunciation. Have enjoyed the little series on the ADO 16. Quite overlooked little cars especially the 1300GT and MG versions which are sort of Cooper S’s in a different body.

@@LivingWithAClassic We had one when I was growing up. It would cut out every time it rained due to the position of the distributor. We then upgraded to a Marina coupe, which would keep going in the rain but the handling was interesting to say the least. 👍
