Let's Talk: People Pleasing

In this episode of Let's Talk, Jasmine, Jackie, and Melissa all confess to people-pleasing tendencies that can become sin, though each faces different temptations. It's helpful to understand how your personality and gifting may bring with them a related temptation. Melissa shares that, in her own life, she has learned that it's possible to be nice to people in a way that isn't actually *kind*. The hosts also talk about how people-pleasing affects parenting, and what they hope for their kids as they grow in independence.

This was timely, I struggle with this and I wasn't totally happy with the online rhetoric. Thanks for bringing the perspective of the gospel.

I'm a people pleaser, it's one of my greatest weaknesses. But, I acknowledge that there is a fine line between moving away from people pleasing, and being a "walking on glass around you" type of person.

Great roundtable topic! I still wrestle with people pleasing at times, especially if it’s someone I respect and they know my blind spots. Lately, I’ve asked myself two questions to keep me in check: 1. Is what I’m saying/doing/thinking/feeling glorifying God? 2. Does it bring me joy? If yes to both, then I’m good. If no, I figure out why and tackle it head-on.

Ouch, that first one hit hard as my cousin was just telling me the same thing about how there is more than one way to get to heaven and it ate at me. But because its family and i didnt want to rock the boat, I chose not to disagree, but instead please. Geesh.

Proverbs3:27? "Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act." AND then the next verse, "Do not say to you neighbor, 'Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow' - when you have it with you." That's not people pleasing - that is loving on, granting mercy, gifting GOD's grace...you need to let the HOLY SPIRIT guide your choices. Speak TRUTH in love. We need a servant's heart towards others...Romans 12:9-21. You may need to have some older women on your "Let's Talk" chat, unless your demographic is women under 35-40?
