THIS!!!! I watched the Goonhammer GT over the weekend and Mani Cheema was just taking tanks off the table with Eldar basic guns - rerolling hits and 6s to hit was at -3AP. Absolute busted.

@@FarseerB1rdy This is just so frustrating. They made basic infantry weapons so busted with the amount of buffs that they are just statistically way better than any anti tank weapon.

@@samjsnz When it was first announced I was behind it. There wasn't the obnoxious amount of rerolls or AP on basic infantry weapons back then. Plus you were always in the game if your anti tank got destroyed! However it's just made anti tank redundant with little to no strategy. Mani just dropped his units from deepstrike, got all the rerolls and deleted two devilfish and the dudes inside just down to rolling enough 6s to trigger -3AP.

@@FarseerB1rdy Yeah I can remember seeing the same thing with catapults, who needs bright lances right. The worst think I saw was a necron match where the big cool anti tank destroyers tried to shoot some black templar vehicles to have them do nothing, to swingy with low shots, random damage then basic transports getting 5++ (Templars). Then buffed warriors just did all the work. 40k doesn't interest me at all anymore, Im just playing killteam that has great modern mechanics. Hersey looks a step in the right direction with reactions, hopefully this comes to 40k alongside a complete do-over of command points and strats

@@samjsnz Yeah our group has pretty much given up on 40k, which does sadden me because I've got a cracking Sisters army. Love seeing it on the table! We've moved over to Adeptus Titanicus and soon Heresy. I've dipped my toes into Sigmar and I absolutely love that so far! Really hyped for that. Reactions will definitely be coming to 40k. I'd be so shocked if they don't. They're in Sigmar, Heresy and I'm guessing Killteam?

Man this feels like such a special time. Back when Calth dropped I was a broke college kid and only got to enjoy the heresy through your vids. This time Ive actually got the money to participate! Thanks for all the great vids back then and these new ones as well!

7ed is the best edition. The horus heresy made it shine.

So nice to finally use the rules still stuck in my head from all those years ago. Really can't wait for this game to come out and really loving the reaction system. Great video, can't wait for more HH content, Hope to be doing some myself soon.

The 'conplexity' of HH is just memorizing the keywords. Everything else is pretty intuitive so i find it easier than 40k which has just way to many unit special rules and abilities scattered around.

Waaaaay worse than HH 1.0 and especially 2.0. 7th had alot more extra books and little rules you had to remember and was massively imbalanced between the codexes and suplement books. I started in 8th but have gone back and played most older editions with friends and ye, while I adore HH I abhor 7th lol. But either way welcome to the game I hope you enjoy it! Any idea on what legion your gonna play?

@@KaosKittyStudios not sure yet, I'm heavily focused on kill team at the moment but I really like what I'm seeing in HH, so will probably pick that starter up around Xmas. When I played 2nd and third I was blood angels, when I came back to the hobby I started an ultramarines primaris army, playing predominantly word bearers in kill team. Maybe ultras but I love that FW blood angels praetor

Loved the game. The reaction rules really give an interesting ebb and flow to the turn. Challenging is also super cool!

Played my first game of Heresy 2.0 today was a blast , very familiar to me as I'm a big player of the older edition, I enjoyed it.

It's looking like a good update so far. And a nice batrep to show off the new rules. Reactions seem good - moving closer to alternating activation.

Great batrep! I liked especially the base deco which mirrored the board mat. Also watched your video about the HH rulebook and I was pleasantly surprised about the Reaction system. Either you have such rule or alternate activation to make playing the actual game worthwhile.

I really like the reactivity of this ruleset. It reminds me of the better tactical hex-and-counter games.

I am expecting a preorder announcement tomorrow, so it would go on preorder next week, but with at least a two week preorder window, like they do for big releases like this, so actual retail release would still be mid-June.

Maybe I missed it but the dreddy had to explode due to the Atomatic Deflector when it lost its last point (maybe I translated it wrong, in that case sorry XD)

This reminds me of 3rd and 4th Ed 40K, which makes sense since that is what the rules are based off of. All goods things imo. Vehicles armor and arcs, yay!

wtf it's literally 7th edition 40K minus the psychic phase with a bunch of Reactions bolted on. 3rd to 7th edition are all built on the previous. 8th was a soft reboot of the rules...

Are these using the same base size as CSM models? I think CSM is the way to go for Night Lords.

Did they change blast weapons? At 15:00, you roll to hit those that are "partially" hit by the blast. In 7th edition, V.1 AoD, and the Playtest rules, being touched by the blast or template meant they were hit. I hope it didn't change.

I noticed that too. I've scoured the rulebook and can't find where this application is stated. Blast says that anything under the template is hit. Barrage says that it follows the same rules as blast with indirect firing being a barrage exclusive. Maybe its a carryover from another game that Ash had in his head

I mean the arms will likely fit on any marine torso that has poseable shoulders.

So the quick reference sheets and the liber book has different profiles for the las cannon array. Does the liber superceed the quick ref as the offical rules ?

What are you using as a reference sheet? You seem to have a quick reference sheet ready with your units and weapons etc, is it self printed? Because there are some differences compared to what you showed in other vids (like your sheet doesn't have sunder on lascannons while the book does)

My friend group is worried about snipers killing primarchs (and praetors to a lesser extent) too well without look out sir and dreads being too powerful now that they're given wounds instead of AV. Do you think this might be the case? Our conclusion is on incomplete info so thought I'd ask an expert.

Being able to freely hand out aftersaves in the form of Shrouded will keep that all in check. Also all the Primarchs come with built in It Will Not Die which means a third of their suffered wounds will come back each turn all game. I very much doubt this will be a problem. Remember independent characters inside squads are part of the unit as well, so damage allocation will be determined by the targeted player typically. Lots of ways of protecting those characters.

This seems like so much fun! I've only been in this hobby since 2020 but some of the criticisms with 9th edition that ive felt seem to be at least partially fixed in this game! I hope the Blackshields are in this version because I can probably run my very "mark 5" (scrapped-together armour) chaos marines as them. Do you think boxnauts will have rules eventually?

I'm worried about Blackshields too so I prepared a plan-B. Sons of Horus Reaver squads have very similiar rules/weapon loadout as Blackshield Marauder squads (but the Reavers are 2 wounds now!). So I plan to use Sons of Horus Reavers rules for my Blackshields until Blackshields get their 2.0 rules.

The one problem with older editions were the never ending close combat. But the pursue is brutal. Great game!

I think he said in the rules video that there is a difference of +1 strength on the regular bayonets vs +2 strength for the chain bayonets.

HH1 veteran and HH2 newb question: Should the Cataphractii even been able to follow up after they won the CC against the Raven Guard Tacticals? Cataphractii don't have Sweeping Advance, have they? In any case the batrep was fun to watch. Thank you!

Pg197 of the rulebook says that if the unit is comprised solely of models with the heavy sub type, they can re roll saving throws against blast and template. Also when making reactions in the movement phase, they are -1 to their initiative. When checking disallowed sweeping advances in the rulebook, it states that there are rules that disallow it but not specifically calling out Cataphractii. The rules released at the time of this being recorded, didn't state that Cataphractii can't sweep. Dunno about the Liber books tho...

@@RockYourNape I’m at work and at my lunch break so can’t check a Liber book, but quoting from v1 astartes list: “In addition to the e􏰂ects and rules listed previously for Terminator armour, models in Cataphractii pattern armour cannot make Run moves or Overwatch attacks. Also, their invulnerable save is increased to 4+. Models that join a unit in Cataphractii armour may themselves not make Run moves or Sweeping Advances while with the unit, but may make Overwatch attacks as normal for them. If a unit is joined by a model in Cataphractii armour, the unit is prevented from making Run moves or Sweeping Advances while the model is with them.” If they didn’t change that on purpose then it should be in the rules for Cataphracti armour in the Liber books.

Alright, now it says: “Legion Cataphractii Terminator armour confers a 2+ armour save and a 4+ invulnerable save. In addition, a Unit that includes any models with Cataphractii terminator armour may not make Sweeping Advances.”

@@Arachn4 Nice. The rules that come on the back of the instructions provided with the starter set, don't prevent Cataphractii from sweeping. That's why they were able to sweep during this game 👍👍

I like a lot of the new rules but I have to say I dont feel particularly good about the reactions or the new warlord traits.

I still don't think I can believe GW is getting this so right (mostly) compared to how bloated and annoying 40K has become. If you had told me a year ago that they were going to release a new HH version and a giant pile of amazing plastic kits that would make me consider playing it I would have laughed.

It’s because of who’s working on the game designer team. Andy Hoare is a veteran games tester and designer that’s been heavily involved with both early 40k and HH. The plates ring abd rules writing team seems way tighter.

Bloat is the same, just on different sides of the coin. Heresy main rule book is thick enough to assault someone with. While your legion rules might just be a few pages. 9th is the same, just in reverse. It’s 6 one way a half dozen the other imo. Just depends which you think is easier to remember. I do think I’d love to have the bones of 9th but with the reaction system (instead of strats) and universal keywords of Heresy for 10th.

@@andrewcrawford8306 But the difference is you can learn the ruleset (or know most of it from similarity to decades of editions) and you don't have to carry 6 books and errata for each army and memorize 35 strategems to know what the opponent may do.

The rules sound a lot like the old 40K rules from 15 years ago.

Do the new HH rules allow you to chose which models in a unit perish (like current 40K) or do you have to remove the models closest to the enemy unit that fired, causing the casualties?

@@jamesespinosa690 I agree - that was a tactical move to place the artificer armoured sgt up front to tank Ap 3 rounds but then the hero gets slotted by melta or lascannons - it was the tactical decision to do that or not. It seems crazy that the guy that rounds the corner into the oncoming bolter hail is fine but Jimmy at the back gets plugged! That's 40K lameness right there.

@@wizzpete The guy in the back isn't actually dying, he's stepping forward to replace someone else. It was like this in Warhammer Fantasy Battles as well. You remove from the back of a regiment to signify the men in the back stepping forward to replace the fallen.

I'm only interested in Warhammer 40k Quest series now. After experiencing narrative combined with the exciting mechanics in Blackstone Fortress, Army games have become boring. Cmon GW get to the next Warhammer 40k Quest game!!!
