Yeah, because 40k has become extremely toxic due to the meta chasing, constant rules changing, and hyper competitive attitudes of sweaty nerds. 30k has long been a haven away from that bs. It's not gatekeeping, it's what the game was made for. If you want meta crap then 40k is still there.

Thanks for covering Horus Hersey, you guys rock! I’m hoping that Horus Hersey largely is far more balanced than 9th due to both loyalists and heretics having access to the same data sheets.

Why not wait a while to buy it. Then you'll be able to see if the cheapo box models aren't what you should field

My friends and i always solved the template argument with a die roll, 1-3 it doesnt hit 4-6 it does hit and it had helped immensely

Yep that’s a classic toss up. Or I actually like playing a rule that I picked up from playing street ball. Offence calls fouls, so the player who’s turn it is makes the final call. It encourages fair play and makes the game decisions on the player and not the dice in judgments. I let fate decide on the other aspects of the game that is intended :)

A 'Burning of Prospero' Battle Report? Yes please! I listened to the audio books of 'A Thousand Sons' and 'Prospero Burns' recently so that would be perfect!

One on my favourite HH novels ☺️

Waiting on the "PlayOn Presents: Every Edition" where they just play from Rogue Trader up to whatever is current and comment on the strangeness of the rules. Then, in the final episode, they rate them all.

I love how after every one was saying they were going to get rid of firstborn they end up releasing plastic horus heresy, it's just too delicious. First born are never going away, they will just re-release the kits as 'new first born' in a few years and old nerds like me will buy them.

Great vid that i watched on the beach in Greece. My preorder is sat unloved at home until Saturday. You have got me so stoked to play HH again.

I can't wait for another heresy battle report, the system plays and looks much more interesting than 40k. By the way, does anyone here know what music is playing in the background?

I took a short 6-7month warhammer break after I started a new job, moved and had a little burnout. Since I've gotten setup in my new place I want to thank Nick, Tak, Tycho and Steve and everyone else for having such inviting and enthusiastic personalities at Play On. I have been binging your content and have been loving every minute of it. I was never really that interested in Heresy before but after seeing this, it actually looks like it would be a fun passion project and a good time at the table. Love the content, keep up the hard work!

Plans continue to evolve. Efforts are progressing. This will take some time though to amass the forces and build out the terrain. It will be months of work.

Great video I also just watched one of Bb mini painting videos two days ago ha Also I am very intrested in HH have been for nearly 3 years now but it was just to much to get into but now its alot easier, going to put some money away and hopefully be able to get this in a couple of months, I also will be printing off some of Emperor's Children I have from a get creator :-) I like the look and feel of HH as well, I love how they (the players) try to look at it as a historical game, the amour painting just everything is cool.

Start small and work at it one unit at a time:) that’s how I approach building an army. Just one at a time, and focus on them to make it what I have envisioned from the start. It’s the best feeling to play with a full legion and everything is dialed in. Worth every minute and the best gaming I’ve ever experienced!

It is a competitive game, just not kill all the things all the time as in curent wh40k is. This is an ideal setting for ... CAMPAIGNES! So defenitly my knack of the woods. Picked up a starter box, €240.00 for 54 models + book, also got the legio book, a sprue of heavy weapons and ... I am now off, converting them into Iron Hands. Good luck all, and have tons of fun, I know I'm gonna.

What do we want? Horus Heresy for sure

Brandon is such a swell guy, good painting skills as well. My question is: I hear a lot about HH requiring a larger army than 40k. How large? Are there combat patrol size games?

It's complicated. HH armies are generally played at 2.5k instead of 2k is my understanding, but the models are also much more expensive, so actual army size and model counts tend to be smaller, especially as there aren't really horde armies.

Cheers mate that’s kind of ya to say 😁. It’s more common to play frontline games at 3k, or do 2.5K so you have to make a choice on the extra toy or two in your list to make the build more interesting. There is however games of ZM (zone mortalis) which is around 1-1.5K that’s all tight corridor fighting to mimic interior and starship boarding actions. Or fan made Centurion which limits tanks and favours more infantry, landspeeders, dreads which is one of my all time favourite ways to play :)

The Horus Heresy is the story that comes before the current Warhammer 40,000. Some models are cross playable as those units have survived that long.

I’d love to see you guys open up a proper merch shop. A few weeks ago I ordered a shirt from your SpringTee shop, and the quality was just not good. Blurry and smudged screen print.

We are so sorry to hear that! That is very disheartening. We are looking at other options. Email us at playontabletop@gmail.com and perhaps we can do something to help make it up. We don't have any quality control with Spring and haven't heard complaints yet so hopefully it is not a regular occurence.

@@PlayOnTabletop Don’t sweat it, my overall goal was to help out the channel by picking up some merch, so that’s what really matters. Things from Spring are always hit or miss, not your guys’ fault. I’d just love to see you guys partner with a new vendor sometime.

I see that Magnus everytime I walk into the club and it makes me want to either kill the Tsons or play the Tsons.

I would like to see the burning of prosperity game

Competitive 40k ha turned the game into chess. I hope the next edition has proper rules for competitive play, as well as rule for narrative players.

Hi guys, just checking out a rule and came here to see if anyone can clarify it for me. If a sargeant has a plasma gun and it gets hot. If he fails his armor save, can we transfer that wound to another model ? Thanks for anyone who responds in advance.

We haven't played as much as we would like. In rules look for the term "model" opposed to unit. If it says model, the Sergeant needs to take it. We play it where the Sergeant would die in this case.

I didn't mention it , but I was refering to the SoH terminator tartarus squad and the sargeant is an infantry character so I could allocate the wound to another model according to the Characters and Wound Allocation paragraph on page 198.

Most of the units have equivalent rules for play in 40K. The Legion Tactical Squads can be 40K Tactical Squads. The Praetors can be proxied as captains. The Dreadnought and tank have 40K rules too.

Every time nick says Horus Heresy all I hear is horse heresy which is bringing up some weird mental images

WTF is that big white thing in the corner of the display case? Is that Tau? I have a question regarding Horus Heresy models. Can Horus Heresy models be used in regular 40K? Basically, I want to combine 2 boxes of the new Leviathan boxed set, with 1 box of Horus Heresy box set and merge them all into one large Iron Hands army. I just don't know if it's game legal?

I’m a new 40k fan and was fully intent going Horus heresy for my first army. This was before HH 2.0 announcement. I prefer 30k lore since that’s where I started the books. That said, even though HH isn’t only SM, most people don’t like that HH is pretty much all SM.

Sometimes it just takes a single individual to just commit and start collecting a legion. I hope the drive to a LOT more plastics will make the barrier entry much easier than a sea of resin that can make others shy away.

@@c3ramics yeah that was always a big factor holding me back… I find SM vs SM fights boring, and the game was essentially “want to make a large investment in another game system that is the least interesting matchups of 40K?” and I just couldn’t do it. If I’m dropping thousands of dollars into a tabletop game, I want to have as much variety as I can get.

@@SHADOWSTRIKE1 haha exactly the dilemma that I dealt with. Still bought a betrayal at Calth set. I will plan to make my army one that I can double for 40k. Someone did Luna wolves to White Scars. Lot more variety with SM chapters so will see what I come up with.

The future of Warhammer, I see the vision however it would be a New Box Set which would be too soon to announce.

What is the reason heresy and 40k have different general ruling.. I miss the armor value/firing points on the vehicles. Also the templates were great. Then again the blast rule is good and I think better overall since you can't spread your units in a cheesy way to avoid max dmg on the templates

the only thing I wish they had added was primaries closer to how they are now. I definitely like 9th primary objectives more, while I liked most of the rest of 7th.

You wouldn’t want to split from Warhammer. The packaging is too minor to add into Warhammer. It’ll have to be on Flavor Texts.

Hours Heresy is just 7th edition 40k with a couple rule tweaks

@@PlayOnTabletop Well i play Iron Warriors and still have 150 mark 3 and 4 Marines but wanted this slightly bigger ones for my Hammer of Olympia Detachment i generaly field 100 Tacticals whose advance been Supported by Contemptor Dreadnoughts with Melta Lascannons Makes for truly Epic Scenes bit i advice too take Apothecarys or Chaplains to make them not run away all of a sudden.

Basically what I’ve been picking up on is that there is a Feud. Warhammer White Unity vs ARK: Survival Latino. It’s really a clash in TWO SOCIAL Understandings

Resorts. Not traveling to a Resort. An Employee Crash. No One Wants to work at a Resort

even though i can't share the hype for this imo horrendous game, the production and pure style of the videos still makes me watch them every time.

Magnus f'd up. He did everything wrong (for the right reason) but doesnt matter... the means does not justify the end (I do realize this is a 1 year vid but t cam up on my feed now so sue me) :D

Nice models , okey rules, too expensive for me to play.

Just use 40k units you dont even have to proxy units. There is a video on YT showing all the 40k units thst are valid in the Heresy setting.

Makes me sad that your interactions with HH have been so positive and mine so negative. Toxic, crusty gatekeepers who love calling eachother brother. It quickly earned the title incel-hammer. Hopefully the second edition expands the community enough that others don't have to bounce as hard as I did.

Sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience. We don't understand gatekeeping. There may be differing opinions on what constitutes a fun time at the table and how hard one wants to play, or how narrative, but ultimately we are all just trying to have fun since it is a game. Hope there are good experiences ahead for you!

Sometimes it just takes a good person to start and others will follow the example. The Heresy has given me my best gaming years and even better friends and experiences to come. Look, I know the community is mainly narrative, hell, I've been part of the community, I understand, but to say its not meant to be a competitive game when it uses the rules for 7th ed, which was a competitive game, is pretty disingenuous. It IS a competitive game and people CHOOSE to play it non competitively and players should be able to play it however they and their friends choose to. It's fine to play narratively and its fine to play competitively, but when you come out and say "this is a narrative game", you're telling people that just want to paint some dudes and play hard with their friends that they are playing it wrong.

You’re correct, it is a game and has competitive elements in there with win conditions and such. It’s all from perspective, and in the case of myself I don’t view any tabletop game as a good candidate to play in that manner. Or it can also be viewed as where the placement and emphasis on being competitive is. A common narrative in Heresy is to build an army that focuses on the military organization and to utilize it to win the objective. Not to sacrifice the lore in favour of more hard number stats and synergies that prioritize the game mechanic before the world building mechanic. You are free to play however you like and if it’s competitive as you like! Remember this video is a reaction and opinionated piece about the game. Just from a different angle to yours :) I hope your still playing games set in the Horus Heresy and having fun with the hobby ✌️❤️🙏

@@BbMiniatures I definitely understand that, my issue isn't people that WANT to play narrative or WANT to play competitive, or people like yourself and other youtubers that make videos promoting narrative play or competitive play. The problem is when people state "this is a narrative game", its calling the people that want to play it the other way wrong. I think it's fine to let people know that many people that have a history of playing the game play it narratively and new players have to be prepared for that, but stating you can only play it one kind of way only serves to gatekeep players that just want to play with their toys. And please, don't get me wrong, I'm not "calling you out" or anything like that, you are definitely not the only one that's saying this, I just want to open the conversation so we can let people know its ok if you want to play competitively. There's already too much gatekeeping in the hobby and we shouldn't be working to add more.

@@Klerik131 to be fair it wasn’t BB that said it wasn’t a “competitive” rule set it was the other guy. BB actually pushed back on that a bit too, which I appreciated. Personally I think that less arbitrary randomisation (running, who strikes first in combat etc) and rules bloat makes the game both more competitive and more immersive/fun

Yup. I don't want to play Horus Heresy. I hate templates and facings. I'll stick to Kill Team 2018 and AoS.

I would just like to say: Magnus did nothing wrong.

Apparently the Thousand Sons player did not discover new rules for psychic powers.They are complete sh*t. They can no longer affect the game in any way as it was before.
