Aww... No actual beaver facts in the end? Fine, I'll do it myself! Here's 13 facts about beavers: 1. In additions to dams and burrows, beavers also build pantries. They are smaller and located at the bottom of the lake/river, so it's hard to really spot them. Beavers use those to store food for winter. 2. They don't always build dams either. Only when they need to regulate the water level. When it's sufficent or when the river is more than 10 meters wide, they will opt to build a tunnel or a burrow. 3. Beavers' homes can only be entered form the bottom. Then you go up an underwater tunnel and you end up in a dry little room. Cozy! 4. Their building materials consist of not only sticks, but also other vegetation, rocks and even mud to seal the gaps. They will often use land features like fell trees across the river, culverts, weirs or fish passes to help them with dam building. Also they can build canals to help them transport building material or food from further feeding areas. They float their things down those canals, sorta like beaver conveyor belts. 5. Beavers feel a natural urge to build when they hear flowing water. It's a natural instinct to them, like chasing the red, fast moving dot for a cat. Even if you turn on the sink, their beaver brains would interpretate it as a leak in the dam and they would try to clog it up. 6. Unlike Rosie Nicklesback said, beavers do not fish. They are herbivores and feed mainly on treebark and leafs. They usualy feed up to 20 meters away from water. Their favourite trees are aspen and willow and although they can fell large trees, they prefer to feed on saplings. Yummy! 7. Beavers are semi-aquatic mamals, rodents to be more specific. It might come as a surprise to some people, as they are much larger than your typical rodent, have very un-ratlike tails and webbed feet. To others, the teeth might give it away. 8. Speaking of wich, beaver teeth are naturally orangish yellow in colour. But that's not because they are stinkies and don't wash them. That's because their enamel, unlike human enamel, contains iron wich makes their teeth strong enough to chew through wood. 9. Beavers can hold their breath for up to 15 minutes and they can swim up to 8 km/h, that's two times faster than human. 10. Beavers have a third eyelid, wich is transparent. It protects their eyes while swimming underwater. 11. Glands on their butts produce castoreum. A substance that smells and tastes like vanilla. It can be used to produce perfume, flavour food or even, according to some, to reduce anxiety, cure isomnia, help with menstrual cramps and other ailments. For the longest time, vanilla ice-cream were made using what's essentially the sweat out of beavers' butt. Yuck! Beavers would rather mix it with urine and use to mark their territory (or Terri-tory if you're french). Sadly, overhunting for their castoreum, fur or even meat led to their endangerment. But thanks to efforts in conservation, they are making their return! 12. Despite being rodents, beavers don't reproduce very fast. They have only one litter with 2-4 young per year. Baby beavers are called kits and live with their parents until they're 2 years old. Beavers usually live in groups of 8, wich are called colonies. 13. Beavers can slap their tails against water creating a loud powerful sound to warn other beavers of danger. Do I get to go first? 🥺

6:15 Rosie's glance at the camera when Laurie says, "I'm so tempted by the tunnel at all times," speaks volumes.

Rosie's luck in this game is very impressive, her ability to incorrectly guess so many times in a row! She spent so much of the games just at the beginning haha.

I respect that Laurie plays the game in the exact same way I would. If you don't win by the tunnel, then can you really call it a win? A coward's win. Also, here's a beaver fact for you. All beavers are bastards. Source: Am Canadian.

Matt choosing higher at the end of the second game was actually quite savvy. He either creates another amazing moment in the game or he gives Sullivan the chance to win. He knows his audience.

@Hyrulistic problem is that only becomes apparent if you don't skip it, and as this channel often has rules at the beginning people often come down to the comments to find time stamps for the beginning, and as these people haven't seen the video they won't get the sarcasm, as I didn't when I wrote the comment.

I liked the video at that point, I often make tea for others as I don't drink it myself and the first time making tea for someone new, I ask how they like it which amazes them as if noone beforehand has ever done so. I would have thought that should be common practice, like asking how rare you want your beef. x:x

@@nihkhdtigerson1599it really should be a common practice! One time when I said yes to tea it was a surprise Earl Grey. From someone who knew how serious my citrus allergy is, but didn’t realise all the Greys have citrus oil in them.

The amount of guests NRB has have that I never thought they would get, from Becca Scott, Tomska, and even Ivan from the Traitors! I don't know who Matt is, but this feels important as well HAHAAHAHA

Matt was such a great sport in that very first game letting Sully win. Unfortunately nobody got through the tunnel, that would've been so thrilling to see! Maybe next time someone gets it right.

I like how having the same number twice in a row is an auto-damn, vs some other games that make it so it's an insta-loss.

Definitely didn’t spend half of the episode quietly singing “beaver in paradiseeeee” to the tune of cheeseburger in paradise

Considering they've mentioned that Laurie isn't an actor/theater kid like many of the rest of them are, he certainly held his own with Dom. In addition to being a legend at "13 Beavers," he's apparently a natural at acting.

Really fun game. Love the bits about Laurie’s win being a practice game throughout the video xD. Matt fit in really well with the group, would be happy to see him appear again in other videos if that was on the table.

Right into my list of favorite episodes of all time.

Changing up the games on the shelves in the background is always a nice touch. It's visually interesting and has me out researching new games.

I can see why Matt Edmondson and Jon Gracey are friends now, they are so unbelievably alike!

Laurie, your win was so incredible and made the game so short that the others were just in awe of your skills. Congrats to all of the winners. This looks like a fun (more appropriately - thrilling) game. I almost guessed every one of Laurie's Tempting Tunnel guesses correctly, I was amazed by my accuracy then I paused the video and came back not too long after to fudge it up except for the very last one (only two wrong guesses when I returned).

My game of 13 Beavers was delivered today, couldn't resist buying this. As a tutor it'll be nice to play probability games with students without having to rely on 80s gameshows like Play Your Cards Right. Especially with so many mechanics to the game!

Beavers do not, in fact, fish or eat fish. They actually make dams so that they can keep water deep/ cold enough to preserve the leaves they eat.

Can’t wait to watch this when I get home from work!

After watching this playthrough yesterday I picked this up at my FLGS. looking forward to playing it!!

Lovely stuff. Shame that Laurie couldn't get through the tunnel at least once, but such is life. Looking forward to seeing what MtG stuff you have planned.

Guess the Card is basically the favourite game of the NRB crew. Of course Laurie was going to do the Tempting Tunnel.

As I sit here watching them play this game, announcing every card as higher or lower, I have a flashback. All I can see is Jim Perry (and later Bob Eubanks) hosting Card Sharks. For those of you in the UK, it was Play Your Cards Right. Yep, I'm definitely old.

What a shame Laurie never made it through that tunnel.

Also we need to talk about the narrative shift Laurie is facing currently. “Laurie never wins”?Pretty sure he was the most accomplished player in 2022. It’s almost like once you start hosting, you aren’t allowed to win anymore or something. Maybe the host role is cursed.

hosting means you win more but you also lose more. theres also an elimant of guests being more likely to target a host but regulars less likely to target a guest. its like in a family game night mum and dad are more likely to take the hits especially if your aunts playing with you, shes not gonna hinder her favourite nieces and nephews in a game
