The packing of the library is always the incredibly humbling moment of realising you *do* have too many books but you're not willing to get rid of them 😂

The best packing tip I've been using for years, especially for books, is to use trash bags on the inside of my boxes. I then pack up my box full, close the bag, close to the box, and the contents stay secure, especially from water damage. Hope that helps anyone. ❤ Edited for spelling.

Gav, you had better get that security deposit back. The landlord reneged on all of his duties. That wall crumbling is definitely because of that leak. The blue tack stains do not qualify for him to keep your deposit. Normal wear and tear is not what the deposit covers. Unless your cats were pissing on everything get your money back.

Lego is best transported wrapped securely in cling film. Wrap it over and over and no piece will get lost. Minor pieces falling of can be repaired quickly whilst unpacking.

@@GavinReadsItAlland then wrap it in blankets/clothes. I transported mine in plastic wrap, then a blanket, in a plastic bin. One or two per bin. It was only an hour drive though so it was fine 😂

if you have any blu tack left, you can use it to removed the bits stuck to the wall. the old stuff will stick to the new piece

Watching you put all those books into boxes was very satisfying for some reason, but I'm so stressed about the lack of tape on the bottoms of the boxes! I don't want them all to fall out on your feet Gav!

This! For our last two moves I did most of the packing because I like to wrap things properly in packing paper and/or bubble wrap. Books were all wrapped in packing paper like presents in batches of 4 for paperbacks, and 2 for hardbacks.

You should keep the black shelve pieces and put them up in your new place; just need to buy brackets 😃 Buying shelves and/or wood can get super pricey but brackets are cheap! I did this in my lounge as I had a large area to fill so I used 2 ends of my old ikea wooden bed as shelves and a side of an old bookcase as a large shelf in the centre. I just filled any screw holes with wood filler and painted them. They look amazing and you’d never know! Saved me a fortune and always fab when you can reuse/recycle 😁

this is a great shout! I made shelves for my bedroom using brackets and thrift-store bedrails because wood planks were too expensive XD

When I moved and had to pack my books, it was so fun unpacking them because I didn't label my boxes, so it was a little surprise each time I unpacked them and put them on my shelves, I loved it.

I'm all for being discerning with shelving space but I don't think you need to feel "disgusted" by the amount of books you own. You constantly go through and weed out the stuff that isn't bringing you joy so I trust that what remains is really what you want when you go looking for your next read. I've been there moving a large number of books before (my library is somewhere in the 1.5 - 2K range) and I came to realize it wasn't my books that made me frustrated, it was the moving process itself. As sucky as the packing and moving is, I found that the joy comes flooding back when it's time to design the new library space and I can't wait to see what you create next. P.S.- PLEASE be careful with those boxes! I know I'm not the only one worried you didn't tape the bottoms and the weight of the books can pull them open.

Moving out of home for Uni was one thing but nothing made me get rid of 90% of my things faster than moving from my own home to my own home as an adult, god damn all the 'stuff' really adds up especially books/manga/video games/collectables, it takes up so much weight and space and I'm never touching the vast majority of it past the first time

When we moved I honestly put only half the boxes full with books and packed like clothes and stuff in with them so it wouldn't be too heavy

I love the energy to "I need STRENGTH to BREAK DOWN the shelves", and then it's the most chill deconstruction of shelves ever haha Can't wait for the moving vlog !

Yes! I was expecting him to just take a hammer to them or shove them out the window. That's how I got rid of crappy furniture, right over the apartment balcony rail and then drag the pieces to the dumpster.

This! Last move, we did two ubers with precious cargo. First was our self-build PCs and the second was the cats.

It might be a pain with as many boxes as you have but I would number them, 1 of 57, 2 of 57, So when you get them all to your new house you can be sure you're not missing any. When I moved before one of them got lost for awhile and the only proof I had was that I had boxes numbered and I was missing number 6 of 14. And they did find it but who knows if they would have bothered returning it if they didn't think I'd noticed.

I think you could get the blue tack staining off with a magic eraser. And the hole in the wall could be fixed with some plaster and a liittle plastic spatula - it goes on pink and dries white. Cheaper than losing your damage deposit lol

Moving a ton is what made me switch over to Kindle books for the most part. Moving a large book collection is brutal.

You said “let’s put our bussys into it”and I was in the middle of an audible “hell yeahhhh” when out of nowhere you picked up a full grown Lego titanic ship. That’s incredible! I love this channel so much ❤

I had to unhaul my thousands of books just two years ago for a move. I'm pretty minimalist in the rest of my life, so I ended up with just 16 boxes to move, but 8 of those are my books 😅 they are literally such a massive part of my life

When I last moved I had 35 boxes of books and I questioned my will to live moving all of boxes up two flights of stairs.

Personal libraries are such special places! Yours was lovely and I can't wait to see what the next version will look like. Good luck with the move!

I don’t know if it’s available in the UK, but when you put your posters up in the new place look for something called Teacher’s Tape. It holds super well with no damage or residue when you take it down. I swear by it as a teacher.

I know it might be too late, but for your little nicknacks I'd suggest putting them outside to let neighbors have a look through and take some. Just to avoid the waste! =)

Not the oops and the blue tack. 😂 I used command strips and they’re liars. Huge chunks of paint gone. 😭

I had a big wake-up call with my books when I moved, as well. I still love physical copies, but I've adjusted to not holding onto books unless I plan to reread them over and over because otherwise, to me, they're not worth owning. It's also helped me make decisions like purchasing a digital copy instead of a physical one if I'm at all unsure I'll love the book.

When I first saw your videos, my first thought was Imagine moving all those books! 😂 Have fun!

I learned this lesson about having too many books as a kid. Both my parents and grandparents had enormous libraries that were a pain!!!! So I try to only buy books that I really really really love and read everything else digitally.

Every time I move I question whether I really want a home library 😅 you never realize how many books ya got til you have to move them

When I moved from my childhood home to my dorm (in another city) I had more boxes with books than all the other stuff combined haha 😂❤

My house got renovated a few years ago and we had to pack everything up to move it into storage while the house was being done up. One of my favourite things was reshelving everything once we got all our boxes back. Excited to see the reorganisation and set up of the new place! Any time anyone moves I think there’s a feeling of “omg I have a lot of stuff”, the amount of boxes needed can be damning 😂

I, too, once moved with an ungodly amount of books. It took the second time for me to cut back. Now I have a limited number of shelves I allow myself. I have become very selective with the books I keep. Having a fabulous library within walking distance helps. 😂

This is how you do a pack up during pride. Also I spied those Animorph books and got so incredibly happy.

Is it bad that my first thought was to break the Lego Titanic in half to move it? XD Also, highly recommend smashing the shelves with a hammer, it's very theraputic

The dropping of the books gave me "if a cat was packing" vibes. 😅

I moved cross country (US) and used totes (clear bins with lids) for my books. They were SO heavy!! I only had about 35 totes. Though...they WERE about twice the size of your boxes, so maybe it evens out, lol! (And this was after purging a good chunk of the library already too!)

Packing and moving books is so much!! My collection isn't nearly as large, and my partner was still grumpy about having to move it each time. Fortunately we're in what should be our forever home now, so we never have to do it again 😹

I giggle every time someone says that they are in their forever home. We’ve bought six houses in 27 years. Every single time we remodel or buy new furniture my husband’s job changes. We then turn over all our work and plans to the next owner. I truly hope you get to keep your “forever” home. I’m not holding my breath on my house.

Watching you break down those bookshelves, I was just like, wow, he's so conscientious. Like, what a thoughtful thing to do! When I got rid of my falling apart bookshelf last year I just Hulk smashed it and threw everything away without removing a single screw or nail. Now I feel bad! If you haven't found a lego packing solution yet - I used that clear cling wrap stuff on mine when I moved across the country and they arrived in tact! I didn't have to take them apart or anything

Grab a new large-ish "blob" of blu-tack and then go / rub over the bits of residue on the walls, it will come right off.

Flashbacks to when i first moved... "There's too many stuff" is also I revelation I had lol. I got rid of much of my own collection (it helps I grew out of a lot of them) but of course over time my space still accumulates books despite my (not-so) best efforts.

I think the longer you're a book content creator for, the less fussed you get about proofs and special editions 😅 I HATE moving just because I have so many books so it is deeply cathartic to watch someone else doing it who isn't me 🙈 I've also always loved that some of your manga behind another row of manga are on a raised height and was curious how you were doing it, but I love that you use funko pop boxes!! I need to do this in my future library room when I have space. Also the lack of sealing on the boxes makes me nervous haha

Pro moving tip (from someone who has moved a lot): Write the name of the room you want these boxes to go into your new place. So for instance, on these boxes, write LIBRARY really big somewhere you can see immediately, so when you (and anyone helping you) are schlepping all the boxes into the new place you don't even have to think about where they should go since it says right on the box.

As a book lover who moved their collection for the 11th time in 12 years earlier this spring, I feel your pain! Every time I unhaul and go "that's it, I'm not going to buy as many books!" and it never works. Anyone who helps load/unload the truck inevitably makes the comment "this box says books too?!?" 😂
