Wow I can’t believe your costs there for peat moss, here in Ontario it’s $16.00 for compressed 62 pound bag. I agree about moisture, my worms love the water as long as it’s not enough to swim 😂 I am trying an experiment with growing small slabs of wheatgrass for my worms, I will let you know if it works,but I am sure you are a pro and will have already tried what I am trying. I love your wormery! I wish my hubby would sell his Starwars collection in the basement so I could make a room just like yours 😂 I started worming in August and I am obsessed now. Thank you for all your help every step of the way!

We use the castings to grow wheat grass for our genie pigs. And after 3 wheat cuttings throw the use castings/wheat grass roots into the worm bin. The worms love it and crowl all up into the roots. Takes a while for them to make it dissappear.

@@TheGardenAndWormLady ok so I have to say…..my experiment was a success! I will go check out your video on how you do your wheatgrass. I did mine with no dirt and no castings.
Thanks for sharing this video with us. I love your videos. You and MeMe are my favorite. I'm starting a few bins for of EURO'S for my fish bait. I might sell a few worms to my friends. Bait has got so expensive. Keep up the good work. Thanks Again!!!...

That is so sweet. Thank you very much. Yes I like reading. I read a lot of Stephen King. I am reading a book right now called this house is haunted. I like scary stuff but I go back-and-forth with different types of books. I also have a huge collection.😅

🤣 believe it or not I had someone get upset at me for wearing a shirt with a hole in it. But worm farming is an extremely dirty job.
Sphagnum peat prices came down a bit- probably when Canadian border problems got sorted out a bit.
Thank you for this great info! It's nice to see you using the pine shavings. I have TONS of pine shavings that I use as litter for my rabbits, and I was wondering whether it would be safe to use in my worm bins. Do they readily consume the shavings or do you just use it for fluff/bulk?
@TheGardenAndWormLady

Eventually, it does break down and disappear, but it lasts a while so it’s definitely not something that will disappear right away.
I buy all the broken bags but most of the time they just give it to you
Lowes as peat moss the large one for 19 dollars bought it last night

I love your humor, Thought it was funny you apologizing for not looking professional. What does a professional worm farmer look like? If you’re not one I don’t I don’t know who is. I keep getting in trouble for wearing a nice shirt when I go out & dig in my worms or garden.

Peat moss is being eliminated from use as it is a huge problem for depleting these carbon sinks. If you can avoid using it, please do. I find coir pretty darn good, mixed with very fine mulch or sawdust.

It's cool growing worms, from a basis point. What they devour. That's the human interest. It's like BAM! one week later it's gone. I've seen it, time and again! The Premise is it's an effective Fertilizer.

You can find it at memesworms.com She has someone who builds up for her. I bought the larger size I don’t remember the measurements.
Can you use shredded cardboard instead of pine shavings??? Not sure what I can get in the uk but I do have coir. And it’s becoming a bit too wet over the 3 weeks.

I know it's a bit of a hike for you, but the Menards in Montgomery IL (about 35 miles west of Chicago) has 2.2 cubic foot bales of peat moss for $8.89 after rebate. A number of Menards stores have peat available, so you might find one closer. If you should decide to come up this way, give me a yell, and I'll buy the coffee. 🙂

Does everyone freeze their leaves or sand before putting in their worm bin?? I am afraid I will bring bad bugs into my inside worm bin. Would freezing or microwaving even work?
@TheGardenAndWormLady

Freezing them definitely works. I also makes diatomaceous earth in my leaves the food grade kind. I also suck my leaves and very hot water for a few days that also works.

Those little white worms are called pot worms. They are part of the Composting World and they are harmless. They usually mean that’s a lot of moisture in there. I don't see any mites in your worm bin setup. How do you do it?
@TheGardenAndWormLady
Жыл бұрын
Every bin has mites no matter what but I control their population. I use diatomaceous earth the food grade. I sprinkle it on the surface and outside the bin. I rub it in all the edges and I leave it alone. Within a few days this gone

@@ridzuanomar828 I've read that sticking a piece of bread in the bin and leaving it for a few hours will bait the mites. They go into the bread and then you can throw them away. I haven't tried this yet but I plan to!
