You bring up some great topics about costas. One thing I heard about recently is driving with glass lenses. The airbag can shatter the lenses causing you to lose an eye. I’ll be switching to plastic lenses for driving. Cheers!

I own santiago (glass green mirror lens) and tuna alley (glass blue mirror lens) and they both reflect a glare of the mirror color of the lens from any very very bright objects especially from shiny cars under the sun

Hi I just got Costas with a green leans, for every day use, should I consider blue leans instead, not sure if blue much darker

I wear Costas as well mainly because LensCrafters offers the best prices on prescription sunglasses in my opinion. I wear Reeftons because they fit my head well and the lens color I went with was the copper silver mirror. Wasn’t a fan of green mirror because I think they’re goofy looking. Before I got them I had Oakley split shots and they are a massive step up from those. My dad swears by his Maui Jim’s but I can’t get a fair comparison between them because I can’t see past my nose without prescription lenses lol

I have the Reefton Pro's, and i tried the SMITH Guides Choice and they sucked. Didn't fit, and the anti slip on the nose and ends were not anti slip. They kept falling off my face. I did try the green lenses In Smith and Blue in Costas. And after going to some ponds and clear rivers. There wasn't a difference. Ill keep the blue

What's better for deep sea or offshore fishing?

I’ve heard of people hurting their eyes or even going blind in a eye from the glass shattering after taking a weight to the lense. I’ve hit myself with a bait in the lense before and nothing happens because the lenses are plastic. Companies also sell replacement lenses for whatever Costa frame you have that are aground $50 just in case you scratch them.

I agree with everything you talked about; try a lot on, buy online, glass over plastic, avoid wrap around with hats, green mirror/amber over blue mirror/gray. Green mirror glass lenses would be my "if only one" lens. If you haven't tried the sunrise silver mirror glass lenses I'd recommend those as a secondary fishing lens over the blue mirror/gray. They are better in low light and really cloudy days than the green mirror/amber and can be worn on sunny days too although you aren't supposed to drive with them on. I've scratched the inside of my plastic lenses just by cleaning them off with my t-shirt so I switched to glass and never plan to buy plastic again. The weight difference is pretty minimal and something you get used to. My only gripe about Coastas is the rubber pieces can start to come off over time, especially around the nose if you aren't careful when you are wiping the lenses clean. It's usually a quick super glue fix but still a common issue. Hasn't stopped me from buying them. I have a narrower head and really like the fantail frames which I believe is basically a smaller version of the blackfins.

Costa Glass will shatter with high impact and damage your eye for life so do not use them if in any sport that this could happen.

@@bubbab2057 no it won’t. The layers will hold it together kinda like safety glass where it cracks and spiders but remains on one piece.

I've got two pairs and love them. Just could do with a lower price.

Costas website shows all lens types let through 10-12% of light, except the sunrise yellow (30% light through). So stating that the amber or copper let's through more light isn't 100% accurate. So I think the clarity with the amber or copper is related to the TYPE of light it lets through. The copper lens with green might let through more the blue light which makes everything brighter. The blue mirror and grey base reflects blue light, and grey absorbs along all wavelengths of visible light. Whereas copper would tend to absorb the reddish wavelengths, increasing contrast of the remaining colors

Have you noticed any difference between glass lenses and plastic ones apart from weight and scratch resistance? I mean, are really glass lenses much more clear than plastic ones as people say? About the glass lenses, if you receive an impact like a tungsten bullet coming to your eye when you thought you had snagged into the bottom and you pull to break the line but the bullet comes out, couldn't the glass len shatter and damage your eye? Great review!

Very good comment, yes it could damage your eye for life. Glass is a big big no no for fly fishing for me.

Do the Pro frames fit the same as the regular frames? The website says they have different measurements but maybe the adjustable nose pads make up for it.

@@PunchFishing I love the blackfin. I have the pro and honestly the adjustable nose pads are a winner when sweating and want to stop sliding. The vent holes do work

I bought pair of Costa’s on eBay for a gift, I’m concerned if they are authentic or not. I don’t want to gift knock off’s. Any advice on how I can make sure they’re the real deal?

Look for the 580 or 580P mark etched into the corner of the left lense while facing them. Also most knock-offs don't have lettering and product information on the inside of the arms. Hope this helps.

I don't have a particular favorite. Just go with ones that have high ratings.

So I've had 2 Costas 580p sunglasses the tint just comes right off after 3 weeks of using. The guy I bought it from got them from Amazon. They have the 580p etched into the lens but I'm pretty sure they are fakes because I took great care of them always put them back into case after wearing. All of a sudden after 3 weeks when I clean them with the cloth it comes with, the tint just rubs right off. So frustrating. that's 2 glasses in less then 2 months. I mean cheap gas station glasses last me longer then that.

Yeah, that's definitely not real costa lenses then. I've never had tint come off any of my pairs ever. This sounds very suspect.

@@PunchFishing thanks for the reply. Yeah and also another thing shouldn't there be a bit of a rubbery material at the nose piece on the tuna alley? And also in the back for better grip above the ears? Yeah these the frame is 100% plastic no difference at the nose piece then anywhere else

I've worn perscription Maui Jim sunglasses for 10 or more years, and just switched over to perscription Costas... I was a hard core believer in Maui Jim until I switched. What a difference!

What about if you go Icefishing? Blue tint?

If it’s bright you want the blue mirror which is a grey base. Or just the normal grey lenses. Got to be the glass lenses for the best optics possible. The glass is more expensive but absolutely worth it. The green mirror is an amber base lens which lets in a very slight amount of light but still a dark lens. The green mirror is fantastic.

i will say the p lens mirrors are way less vibrant then the glass version...the p is very dull and flat and not as mirrored.

Green mirror is an amber based lens, so it's basically the same thing.

I had to get asian fit costas.... lol. It's sad that Asians have to order special fit glasses when we naked up half the world's population haha. Thoughts on sunrise silver? Heard that tint was the best. I love my Costas though amber with green mirror is money.

Glass is not more durable and it’s much heavier on the nose. I wear 580p Rinconcito at work and fishing. My eye color is hazel green so sensitive to bight light. The grey lense mirrored polycarbonate is flawless ! GLASS to freaking Heavy !

I've yet to scratch my 580G glass lenses, and I've scratched my 580p plastics. The glass is way more scratch resistant.

China is scary anymore with the fakes. I have fake Costas and a fake Benchmade, you'd never know the difference. Case and all with the Costa's. Which was the point. The glass's are on par with my real Leupold's. I just like the Leupold's better. Also weirdly enough amazon sold me fake lucky craft Sammy's. But they work the same so ehh.

Am I the only one that notices reflections of my eyeballs on the inside of the lenses? This absolutely terrible and makes costa suck compared to something like MJ

Need to disagree with you on where to buy. If you go into a store and use their facilities to try on glasses then you should buy from that store. Otherwise you're just using their services for free. Otherwise, just buy and return online.
