    When I was small child (around 50 to 55 yrs ago), we had these "colouring books" where the pictures were all filled in with little dots. These dots were actully ink spots, and when you brushed over them with a wet brush, they released their colour and you painted that section. It was exciting to see what colour each area of a picture was, and I spent many happy hours "painting" these pictures. The first time I used the Inktense, doing the swatching, it reminded me of that. The excitement was the same, and it just really took me back there.

    I found a local craft store with these in open stock. I don't normally work with watercolor but my son does. I think i'm going to buy a few and give them to him as a gift to see if he likes them. I think he's currently using the Faber Castell Aqua. I love the pumpkin.

    Oh I hope you love your new set of Inktense. They are so fun to play with. I have some more recent videos showing how to use them and even a very recent video showing many different techniques. I also have a color along on my channel using them where I colored a bunny in Rachel Mintz's Friendship coloring book.

I found this tutorial looking for ideas to use them both. I have 2 of Maria's books but this isn't one of them. I love her books so I will probably order this one. Thank you for the inspiration.

    I love the Inktense pencils and have been pleased with the results even without the water brush. I didn't know at the time that there was a water blender and have been worried about it making the uncoloured picture on the back get a bit of seepage. I do use always a cardboard sleeve to help the pic I am working on to give support but with the water pen, doesn't it bleed at all to the image behind it on the previous page or the image on the next page? Any feedback is welcome as I am keen to get back to it. I agree with you that the colours of the pencil aren't anything like the colour really is...

  • @ReverieOfThorns

    This is what I'm wondering too bc I've used these on cardstock before and the paper warps and the color seeped through in some spots. It wasn't cardstock meant for art, it was card making cardstock that my mom had left over, but it seeped though even tho it was relatively thick and heavy. I really want to use my inktense pencils in my Maria Trolle coloring book too, but I'm worried the paper will warp and the color will bleed like it did really badly with the cardstock.

  • @j9andphoenix

    @j9andphoenix

    10 ай бұрын

    @@ReverieOfThorns I have tried brushing the actual pencil tip with the water brush which sorta worked. And I have also just gently reapplied more pencil and not used water. I have a couple that came out well and didn't bleed or warp the paper or seep into the picture on the other side. One of them came out so well my sister refused to believe that I had not used water at all - but I achieved a nice look. If you discover any methods I would love you to let me know and I will do likewise if you are ok with that. Maybe a Facebook exchange or something? I don't use that platform much though - I have an instagram I rarely use - could upload pics... Anyway, I guess the key is down to great paper and as little water as possible. It is scary though...I have so many half finished books...and a gazillion pencils :)

    Are waterpens a must have for inktense pencils for proper water control? It looks nice the way you do it. I am impressed. I am debating on getting these inktense actually, but I wonder if it works like watercolor brush pens (which I never liked or hardly use). I am used to watercolor pans or tubes. I use watercolor pencils for touch ups if needed. Can you also use inktense on top of watercolor painting (for touch ups to make the color a little brighter since watercolor fades once it dries)? Great presentation.

    If you have a old mainstay cutting board from walmart like the white plastic you can scribble the derwert pencil on it and pick up the color from the board..( or its helpful to mix two watercolor pencils colors or derwert color on the board) instead of holding it in case you drop the pencil or wcb..that was my accident I learned hard way from my caryola wcp drop... I messed up drawing and painting.🤦‍♂️...also caran dasche has a similar board but its appx 12.00ish plus shipping versus a couple dollars for the mainstay cutting board at walmart... the caran dashe it's a nice size for desk tops tho altho you might find that you like the mainstay size better as its twice the size.. by the way did you get any bleed thru onto pior page...?.many art blessing to you today..very informative video...
