    Not only that, but he could sing live just as cleanly as his studio performances. I've watched so many live videos of him singing and never heard his voice waver or crack in anyway. And with his energy on-stage, that feat is damn near impossible. Freddie Mercury can't be overrated, he can only be fairly rated as the greatest Rock singer of all time (Above the likes of Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, Mick Jagger, and even Paul McCartney who I would put at 2nd for rock vocals).

There are certain bands that could have stayed on the DL and they would have done pretty okay and because they were catapulted off like one good song I believe that sometimes a certain part of these band's audiences will think that they're over rated after putting out a follow up album to all that success and it gets shit on because it's not like [Previous Album]

    why are people so dead keen on a wide vocal range? i'd rather have a singer with a unique style than some generic wide range one. not saying a wide vocal range is a bad thing, but it's not a necessity for singers imo.

  • @charliericker274

    @charliericker274

    3 жыл бұрын

    It's not about necessity, people bring up range because it is impressive and can sound really good if done well. When talking about vocalists range is the thing that let's you stand out. Having a high and powerful voice literally makes you stand out, it's easier to hear. I'm not even being silly here. In a crowded bar or at a concert, the singer with the higher range will be heard better than the one that sings low. There is more to it too, a good song has range in the melody, going up or down creates drama, so singers with good range can have more dramatic and emotional songs. Of course it's not needed, I like singers who have small ranges too, it's just I don't think of them as amazing singers, I usually like them because they are great songwriters.

    I'll say, when i became a Prince fan back in 2006-2007, people told me that all the time. "Bit like MJ but worse". Almost no one understood why i was so crazy about him. And now when he's dead, what do you know! There are Prince fans everywhere. Kinda pisses me off, but hey. Better late than never. Never been crazy about MJ. And don't get me wrong, i like a lot of his stuff. But he wasn't a genious the way Prince was.

    I feel like people don’t often look past the hits for these artists a lot, just to use Cobain (3:09) as an example people often listen to In bloom,SLTS, heart shaped box, but look past scentless apprentice, paper cuts, spank thru( especially the fecal matter demo) or hairspray queen, emulating artist like Cobain, MJ, Mercury, etc. is fucking hard and the people who call them overrated really undermine the great execution that went into their music. Especially since not a lot of artist have never had vocal training.

    I feel like the guy talking about Patton only listened to the real thing and some popular tunes of the Faith no more band. I personally think that Patton has what it takes to be loved and hated. That what’s making him a talented vocalist. His range is phenomenal and the variety of style he can work with is surprisingly insane. He’s getting old but he did so much you can enjoy every aspects of his voice. Love that guy

    People compare Prince and Michael Jackson because they are both eccentric black musical geniuses with a high register voice. Nothing to do with their actual style.

    Mrs. Featherbottom there never was. they just loved showing off and one upping each other because they had massive respect for each other’s work. most of the “beef” was made up by fans tryna argue who’s better which is dumb. both of them are talented black kingsss

    Do people uderstand what "overrated" means ? I don't think I've ever heard anyone say Ed Sheeran, Khalid, Adam Levine, Post Malone or Billie Eilish are the best singers of all time. So why are they even on this list ? Makes no damn sense to me.

    Mariah whistling too much is a misconception. Maybe at the beginning of her career. But you get to albums like Daydream and Butterfly when she was really getting into her creative stride and I have to really sit and think about which songs have whistles in them. A lot of her most beautifully composed ballads don't have whistles in them. (My All, We Belong Together, Always be my baby, Forever, Mine Again)
