‘Let down everyone’: Douglas Murray slams UK Conservative's time in government

Author Douglas Murray has slammed the UK Conservative Party following their historic loss in the United Kingdom election.
“They let down everyone, they’ve got very little to show for their time in the office, they were there for 14 years and what few things they did achieve are all now going to be wiped away by the historic Labour landslide of Keir Starmer,” Mr Murray told Sky News Australia.
“The way in which the Conservative Party seemed to think the nation had an absolute limitless appetite for Conservatives to have infighting in the party was just astonishing … we watched it happen, we couldn’t believe the lack of discipline, couldn’t believe the lack of delivery.
“It’s not that Britain swung left, it didn’t, it just voted against the Conservative party and maybe they will use their time in opposition to try and cohere and actually be conservative and actually come up with some policies that will differentiate themselves from other parties, or maybe they won’t, maybe they will just disappear into history.”

ReformUK got 4.1 million votes but only 5 MPs, the LibDems got 3.8 million votes but 71 MPs, interestingly that is about the same number they would have got under PR STV.. Ireland's PR system has enabled small fringe groups to exercise a political influence well beyond that warranted by their tiny support base in the population. For example, the Greens are currently running at 3% in the polls but thanks to PR they are part of the current Government and they are responsible for the radical open-borders agenda that is ruining Ireland and opposed by 70% of the population.

Gosh i wish Douglas would stand for Parliament. The Conservatives have spent years infighting. Rishi Sunak did not have to call an election at this time. Theresa May made the same error when she was PM and then spent the reamainder of her time failing to support voters over Brexit. Nigel Farage is the voice of sense.

Tories have given Labour the opportunity to finish off the UK. The damage that will be caused can never be undone and they will each be culpable. The Tories job was not difficult to keep Labour out for normal people, but they went out of their way to create a mood where people wanted them out. They will never be forgiven.

@@pauljohnston7232 very true, that's why you have to listen to what citizens say and not ignore them. That way you can determine what the majority want instead of guessing. Personally I think all the parties have some good and some bad ideas and I wish they would work together more instead of spending all their time trying to get one up on each other. I vote according to who I think is going to tackle the issues I am most concerned with. If a party makes promises as part of their manifesto, I generally expect them to keep those promises, not ignore them, otherwise, they will lose my vote in just the same ways as they lost other peoples votes.

It's important to remember that while the net migration was still higher than 100K (target for Cameron and May) it was far smaller until Boris came in to power. It was his new and very relaxed immigration system that allowed millions of people from the 3rd world (who saw a good opportunity when rules were relaxed) to move to the UK. Also taxes went up under Boris (they came down under Cameron and May). IMO it was Boris (and later Sunak who did nothing about very high immigration numbers and relaxed rules until it was too late) who's mostly responsible for Conservative voters abandoning the party.
