When the pandemic started and it was hard to find food. I really thought about The Long Winter book. I can't imagine what they went through. I love seeing you make the pot roast. I love trying to make the food that they made and watching you make it makes it easier for me to make it.

The Long Winter was my favorite of the books, which is kind of odd because it's arguably the most depressing. But it's one of the ones I remember the most and I can't imagine this hot-weather Texas girl surviving that winter spending all day tying bundles of hay because they burn longer with knots. Loved the cute decor project! I could imagine doing rice for snow for a winter scene.

I LOVE the idea about using rice Dixie. I've used sugar and epsom salt before. I love The Long Winter because they never gave up and the community really worked together to survive.

Thank you so very much for watching. As I understand it many of Laura's character's were compilations of several people. She used characters such as this to softly teach lessons. The character of Mr. Loftus shows that greed and selfishness will never help a community. She reinforces the lesson by contrasting Loftus with Cap Garland and Almanzo who did not take any money to deliver the wheat. They risked their lives for the good of community. This echoes the biblical teachings in John 15:13 There is no greater love than this-that a man should lay down his life for his friends.
