Lessons Learned on Frontier Sawmill

Lessons Learned. There is one thing a portable Frontier sawmill operator must have or it is a waste of time! We are telling you tricks and tips as we learn them on the portable sawmill. It just seems like common sense, but we didn't know we would need it and need so many for a sawmill. It was an afterthought, but it is key to making good lumber. We also cut up this old black gum tree. Never cut one of these trees before on our OS23 by Frontier Sawmills. Tell me what you think in the comments. @Frontier Sawmills #frontiersawmills #portablesawmills @portablesawmill

Nice video! After giving them a chance to dry, I'd use them for stickers on dark woods-- red oak, walnut, & cherry. Never had a problem with that. I agree that cutting stickers and blocking are the first cutting jobs for a new sawmill. It is a good use for post oak, which also makes good firewood and tomato stakes, so rejects don't go to waste. I never have enough!

Great video Tony! That mill sure cuts nicely. I’m with ya on the stickers I probably wouldn’t use them on your premium wood but wouldn’t hesitate to use them on like fence boards or something your not to concerned with having leach marks on. After letting them dry for a bit they may not even make marks? Not sure but I’m sure you all will get some good use from em’ some where! Take care buddy

I ain't sure what gum wood is. Stickers should be out of the same wood as you cutting. Kind of a pain, but you can make them out of the scraps of the log your cutting. That stuff is kindling for a good fire. Lol. I'm figuring you know this by now. Had to say it though.

It turned out to be Black Gum. We are going to use the as tomato sticks next year in the garden. Black Gun doesn't burn well, so even kindling is out. Just a nasty tree. The bark dust made me get a sinus infection

Yeah I don't think I'd use them for anything that is good quality or going to be seen. Perfect for structural stuff that it does it matter if there's a few sticker stains here and there. Nice job though all the same, better than the log going to a burn pile or just rotting away. Keep up the good work. I know it's painful to buy them for so much money but they will last you years and they will work out cheaper and cheaper every time you use them. Have a great day my friend
