I heard that Titanic sunk due to the amount of tea being spilled by the ladies in the first class lounge.

U should change it to reception room since it was the most popular place to get tea and also because the lounge was already closed before titanic started to sink. I do like the joke tho. Props.

Titanic Fact for the Day: Did you know that the Titanic was carrying a huge shipment of mayo that was bound for Mexico? When it sank in April, its entire cargo was lost. News didn't reach the Mexicans until 5 May. They were devastated when they found out and decided to remember the loss by creating a holiday, _Cinqo(Sinko)-de-mayo._

Titanic and Uncle Iroh while I have my breakfast and coffee? This quality content is why I'm subscribed.
Wouldn't it have -easier- Britisher to just install a 30th boiler (double-ended) and brew tea and coffee for the whole ship in that? And then a piping system that pumps it to every cabin where it would have come out of a tap on the wall?
@v31.48

Well with all the boiler adtives like sulphur and stuff you need, it would be toxic and tea taste like shit.
Tea and Coffee was served every morning in the staterooms of first class passengers as part of their early morning call tray, which is something nearly all first class passengers would be used to back in their own homes. Around 7.30am, a steward would arrive at their cabin with a tray of fresh tea/coffee, toast, pastries, scones, marmalade, jams, butter and biscuits along with Titanic's own daily newspaper.
As a Star Trek fan I was delighted to see the Janeway clips of her demanding coffee, haha. Titanic is mentioned on that show at one point, too (they make use of the idea of the watertight compartments on their ship)! Another great video!! Still learning things about Titanic!

Fun Fact! Thriving trade between Venice and the Ottoman Empire back in the 1500s brought coffee into European harbors for the first time in history. Coffee was met with uncertainty in Europe as it was deemed a "Muslim drink", but by 1600 Pope Clement VIII deemed coffee as a Christian beverage thus making Europeans more open to the exotic drink. Coffee was even introduced to Vienna after the Turkish defeat at Vienna in 1683, as coffee beans were found in the abandoned Ottoman military camp by European soldiers. Coffee is a uniting force that brings all cultures around the world together! Lovely video Matt!
Awesome video, professor! What I love the most (besides all the coffee/tea facts) is that you used footage from quite a variety of Titanic films, and not just A Night to Remember or the James Cameron movie...

I'm really enjoying this channel! Thank you so much Matt. Even as a long time Titanic enthusiast, I still learn something new every time I watch your videos. A suggestion for a future lesson. How about Titanics hardware? Locks, door knobs, hinges, coat hooks, shelf brackets, vent grills etc.

c300g : Excellent possibility for a future presentation- but if ya wanna delve into that subject on your own may I respectfully suggest (if you don’t already own them), purchasing Volumes I & II of “Titanic: The Ship Magnificent.” IMO THE be all/end all of anything technical about the Olympic-Class ships. Truly encyclopedic. If the info you seek (knobs, hooks, doors - BTW it all is) isn’t there I wouldn’t know where to point you. These reference volumes are utterly exhaustive. Wanna see photos of all the different types of rivets used to rivet the ships massive steel plates together? You’ll find it there. Thick, high quality books, which I imagine took the authors decades researching and writing. For that level of excellence be prepared to shell out $200 or more to Amazon or your favorite bookstore. For a serious student or hobbyist of all things Titanic, HW & WSL, however, an absolute must-own set. Enjoy if you buy. Great for those insomniacs!!

Matt C : I hope you enjoy them. These volumes are so thorough and encyclopedic reading them can actually get tedious- almost like reading a textbook. I read them a bit at a time. If you only purchase Volume I you’ll miss my favorite chapter, part of Volume II, titled “The Lifeboats.” Everything you ever wanted to know about Titanic’s well-built, but woefully insufficient lifeboats. Spoiler: Titanic’s boats (all lifeboats on HW ships) were built in-house at Harland & Wolfe’s own boathouse. Apparently there were no standardized plans; each boat being built individually by master boat craftsmen. So there was some small amount of variability among lifeboats of the same class. Lots of photographs, and a lengthy discussion about the Englehardt Collapsable boats (not built by HW) Great books.
Janeway “there’s coffee in that iceberg”
Growing up with a mom and grandma from the UK, tea time is very important for productivity 😂
I really appreciate the Captain Janeway interludes. 🤣
So immersive. I think trying to feel closer and closer to what it would be like aboard and on a voyage is what we keep striving for in the ocean liner community. And how in this video!
3:41 Captain Janeway has been watching “Allo Allo” hasn’t she 🤣
These videos are very informative, thank you! Plus I love your sense of humor! You're very funny! 😂
As a tea-holic and Titanic nerd, I really appreciated this video :)
4:48 "Be careful of that coffee, it can stand up and walk!"
This channel covers topics i have never even thought about! Great video.
I love the clips from Avatar :)
I like the humor in this. Educational and funny.
Titanic wouldn’t have sunk if Janeway was onboard. No way she’s letting all that coffee go to waste!
Another brilliant episode .Many thanks .
I use hot milk for hot chocolate instead of hot water because hot milk brings out the texture of the hot chocolate and it makes it richer and taste creamy two in my opinion
Another fantastic and really interesting video, looking forward to the next one!
Great episode, Matthew! Enjoyed it
hahah LOVE the Janeway cameos!
That was amazing thank you, as a pastry chef i'm most excited about seeing the galleys of titanic honor and glory! but now i feel you need to do a video on, table wear, glass wear and silver wear aboard the ship after you referenced it so many times :D keep up the good work i cant wait to see the end result :D
It’s refreshing to hear your favorite tea is green tea with jasmine, that’s my favorite too. Twinnings brand tea bags of that stuff.
Matthew likes voyager!!!! Yes!
Excellent. Thanks for presenting. I thought my knowledge of most things HW and White Star Line was pretty exhaustive, but I didn’t know much of this. What’s up with WSL offering only “standard grade” (Let’s call it Great Value, hint-hint.) coffee and tea throughout the ship, especially in First Class, and even more especially given the price of a FC ticket in 1912, when converted to current Pound or US currency values? Seems like WSL was trying to squeeze every penny or shilling of profit out of the ships after just having paid HW for their then enormous construction costs. Still, the line seems it could have done better, even at that time, or was this typical of most lines competing on the North Atlantic run? Even in 1912 high-quality coffees and teas were known and available. Seems cheap. Anyway, very interesting.
I was having a cup of coffee while watching this video this morning! XD
Seeing clips from the 1953 film was a real treat. Haven't seen that movie in years. Barbara Stanwyck and Clifton Webb were amazing.
Lovely video about tea and cofee, love it :D

Marvelous!

Just when I thought I couldn't love you guys more you throw in a clip of Janeway.
Your are so good to teach about Titanic
While I personally don’t drink coffee or tea (coffee’s too bitter and tea has a taste I just can’t get behind), this was a fascinating look and very enlightening. They may have only had one variety of each, but on the bright side, this does mean no matter where you were, the product was consistent, so I’d consider that a positive
Janeway Theres coffee in that iceberg
Great video! I want tea right now!
Great video, now I need tea!

That first shot of Captain Smith with the tea was great tbh.

Personally a fan of both English and Irish Breakfast teas myself, so I probably would've got on well with the Titanic's brew. Coffee? No thank you, tastes like boiler sludge to me.
hope you enjoy your tea
I'm not surprised that there was so much tea, the British always needs a drink
my left ear enjoyed those T53 snippets
Loved the Voyager clips... But what about the third class beef broth Matthew?
I love coffee I love tea. I love the Java Jive and it loves me
Tea on the Titanic was indeed just English Breakfast Tea, and of course all loose leaf tea, no such thing as teabags back in 1912.
Looking forward to seeing RMS Britannic's pantries once she's fully modeled!
Wow, it’s a real surprise to find there was only 1 tea/coffee selection onboard the most luxurious ship!

From what I know Palm Courts are supposed to be for afternoon tea and light snacks. Is it the same on the Titanic?

Yum tea
I drink my coffee instant with creamer, powdered ginger and chocolate.
I LOVE ICED GREEN TEA FROM DUNKIN! DID THEY HAVE THAT BACK THEN?
I have a generic ocean liner question. I suppose it varies on the period. But How long what an ocean liner typically stay in Port between transatlantic crossings? Be it the early days, Titanic's time or later on in the golden age of ocean liners?
Before my mother goes to work we would have coffee and chat and hang out and I see your a avatar the last air bender
I want to learn about the original Olympic,Pls!

Professor! Will you ever do a video about the lesser known Titanic passenger's such as the 13 or so Croatian passenger's?
what did titanic do...for refrigeration?
Great content as always! I have a question: how did the boiler room staff move between the boiler rooms? Those boilers seem to be wall to wall in there..
@hugos5114

There were watertight doors in the bulkheads, which would allow for them to move from boiler room to boiler room
