Less fear and new heights for the Old Guy - Skateboarding at 62

Conquering some fear of the coping and making progress with the axle stall drop ins. Long way to go before I am comfortable, but steadily making progress!

"If you want a good present you buy it yourself!" haha that made me laugh. Really great work on the turns and trying axel drop in with new wider deck and trucks is brave! Great work! I just got myself a 9.25 Egg coming from an 8.25 😬

I dropped down from a 9.75 egg to the 8.5. I like the egg, but I have small feet and just don't get a good feel for the board with the super wide shape, the 8.5 seems a perfect blend of foot feel vs stability. Good luck with the 9.25!

@@theaverageoldguy cool! This Egg tapers to 8.8 at the trucks so it's hopefully the best of both worlds but we'll see!

They have really high profile coping and scare me about hanging up. Fortunately I was able to get past that and get some decent drop ins.

Wow incredible job on the 4’ axle drop. That made me nervous watching. Also, love the new deck. I’ve looked at those a couple of times but haven’t gotten one yet.

I really like that GX1000 so far. It has great foot feel and stability. As you saw, my son's board was not an 8.5, but 8.125. It felt great, but I have to say I like the actual 8.5 better overall. Hopefully I will catch up on the edits at some point and get to the recent stuff.

Very ballsy my friend. I love my 8.5 but thinking on moving up to an 8.75. I turn 50 in about a week

I went from an old school 7 something straight to a 9.75 egg thinking bigger was better and more stable. I have relatively small feet (US size 9) and that board was just too big and the foot feel was just not good for me. I tried my son's 8.125, which I thought was 8.5, and liked it much better, so I got my own 8.5 and I really like it a lot. I think going any bigger for me would result in a loss of board feel due to my foot size.

Oh man you just messed up my carefully developed KZread algorithm! It is so hard to set it up to recommend inline skating without skateboarding, because the spaces are shared. However without inliners you are still badass. Do the sport that fulfills you!

Sorry I blew your algorithm! I do like both inline and skateboarding. I come from a skateboard background and only recently took up the inlines with my son and am having a blast with them both!

@@theaverageoldguy I began inlining with my dog. It is friday night here in Europe and I had a bier, so I will just happily(sadly) dump. She is 12 years old GSD and ACD mix, maybe 50lbs. She lived in so many states, then Hawaii, and then we went international. She's seen oceans and mountains. She's been skated and run at least 5 miles a day for most of her life. She's my everything, you know? Every day. She stopped walking so well and then we found out she has cancer in the hip. Except it already spread to the lungs! So even the amputation won't change it. Love doesn't stop with challenges though. She's got a wheel chair now, it's pink. She is a bit of a skater dog now, maybe even more than before because she has the wheels! She can walk again after a month of hard times. She's on strong medicine and is still able to run around and sniff things. I'm so proud of her for being such a good girl, for being so strong, alive, and always gentle. In German we call this, "Hartknackig." Like you are. Du bist hartknackig. Stubborn and always getting back up again.

ok thats why you rolled instead of sliding on your knees.im 50 yr old skater from Philadelphia. i got a tip that might be worth trying. when you go to drop in sqquat down and try to touch the nose of your board. this puts you in optimal position and automatically gets a good pump. also im not sure if you have them but get some hip pads. i ride a 9.5 new deal siamese with 169s and 58mm dragons. this improved my bowl skating drastically. the young guys ride popsicle decks and small wheels because they do flip tricks i dont care for them. i didnt in the 90s and i still dont. you do what you want though, im just saying. i got videos too. just click on my picture sir. you are not wimpy what you got is on your brain bucket

Squatting gets so much harder as you get older! That's a great tip though. I went from a 7 something deck from the 90's straight to a 9.75 egg shape, but that size was just too big for me. I have small feet and didn't like the fact I couldn't feel the edges of the board. I tried my son's smaller deck and liked it, so got an 8.5 with 159's and some bones wheels. I really like that size a lot, it feels perfect for my feet and has great stability and is lighter than the egg, so I can move it around quicker. I found out quickly when I started inline skating last fall that padded shorts were a great idea. I have some bodyprox that did me OK until recently when it seemed that I fell on my hip where there was a gap in the padding every time. I recently got some rhip clips and they are great!
