If he had bothered or managed to preheat and circulate the cooling water it would have fired much easier. We used to fire up an auxiliary heater (placed in the hull which also was used to heat the crew compartment) and when it was hot we started to circulate the cooling water which passed the heater and in turn gave heat to the engine. This worked fine and I experienced it as low as -30 degrees Celsius (-22F). At night time we used to close all valves (water tight) so the tank would contain the heat better. This always resulted in the auxiliary heaters exhaust valve getting stuck. One crew member always had to go outside get the sledgehammer and knock on the armor plate outside the aux exhaust valve. This banging would soon loosen the valve and the driver was able to start up the heater successfully.

@@satnav1980 Its probably about the difference between Torque and Horsepower/Watt. A tank-starter would probably require a lot of torque to move the heavy piston, but not at a very high speed. (then again torque is a kind of power as well, thats prolly the confusion)

You're all wrong. It has 6 primary batteries in 3 sets of 2 for 24V plus 2 secondary batteries bridged for cold starting. The APU engine can't start the the tank on its own, it can be used to charge the batteries and run the heater.

Reminds me of the days starting up my M-60 tank in winter in Germany back in the day. You could see the exhaust plumes for miles.

Never used it. But on Chieftain there was a facility for injecting the equivalent of "Cold Start" into the air intake. It was located inside the tank on the hull wall. You would put in a cartridge, puncture it and pump the contents. As I said I never used it, never even saw a cartridge, just went through the theory on my D&M course.

@@joewiddup9753 I was at Suffield in the start of summer 75, and it was very hot as I remember . But I can imagine that winters could get cold. I remember one time at dawn, I was on guard and a lightning storm started off in the distance. It was an amazing sight to see all this forked lightning in the dawn sky, and I was the only one awake to see it.

Die Stiefel waren unten schon weg von der Kette, als sich die rechte Hand nach oben streckte und ich lm Letzten Moment den Finger frei bekam. - Die Ehe hat dann doch nicht gehalten ;-(

einer meiner Soldaten hat sich den Finger tatsächlich abgerissen beim Absitzen, weil er den Ring noch trug.. Sein Bruder war ebenfalls bei uns im Bataillon in Bad F. Sie wurden dann nur noch 9-Finger (Nachname) und 10-Finger (Nachname) genannt

There is an auxillary engine for charging the batteries and heating. They can open a valve for cooling liquid to the big engine before start. This one they tried a cold cold start at app -30C.

The guys usually run the auxillary motor for the systems in the tank and to charge the batteries. They would open some valve to circulate the hot liquid through the engine before starting the big one.

@@siniyden с консервации и даже не проверили да? что за бред консервация не значит сразу в бой, всё проверяется и запуск на видео значит не первый .

Так они одногодки , леопард родом из 60х , судя по тому как коптит либо движок в хлам либо из первых партий , ну для 60х это была норма .

You need to hear it only 20 sec., gut die Service at this tank must ne very Bad. I was driving a Leopard 2a4 ne it Start jeder like this.

@@harzbushcraft8460 Falsch! 20 Sekunden muss man Vorglühen. bei Kälte (unter-10C°) wird mit dem Heizgerät vorgeheizt.

@@harzbushcraft8460 Wir wurden soweit ich weiß mit 20 Sekunden ausgebildet. Aber bei sehr niedrigen Temperaturen reicht das Vorglühen nicht mehr aus, daher dann das Heizgerät. Der Leo im Video hat wahrscheinlich mit der Taste Kaltstart gestartet.

@@Vollmilchwirdsauer87 ich würde nicht so ausgebildet bei uns war es grundsätzlich 10 Sek. dann kam der Leo auch immer.

В нормальной технике есть котëл для подогрева. После чего мотор запускается с полуоборота.

Bon châssis ces chars "🐆" , un atout pour le tir en tout terrain , et en roulant bien sûr ... Une choppe de bière 🍻 remplie, fixée et en bout de canon ne se renversera pas avec le char en marche... 👍 Réactualisés ils demeurent bien plus supérieurs aux chars adverses de l'ancien bloc de l'Est , un atout réel dans les combats 👌... C'est du fiable ! Phil. 🏍️
