Leonardo Da Vinci: Facial Reconstructions & History Documentary
Ойын-сауық
I'm an artist that brings history back to life by creating famous figures from the past in the modern day, as well as creating facial reconstructions and recreations. Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most famous inventors, painters, sculptors, engineers, scientists...the list goes on. But what did this great man look like? Do we have any portraits of Da Vinci's true face? Let's get into his life and history, as well as reveal my modern-day recreation of his face at the end.

His face makes me smile. He's beautiful.
My art teacher told me when I was 14, that I was the most gifted child artist that she had ever known. My parents refused to allow me to pursue art as a career. I became a nurse. Later in my life, I was diagnosed with ADHD. I have many unfinished projects. I always say that when ( and if) I reach an afterlife place.. Leonardo Da Vinci will be in my top five list of people that I’ll go looking for…
the blue eye davinci was amazing! i felt that was true to his like ness
He has that silver Fox look going for him in these pictures. Very handsome, very intelligent and very talented
He looks like a mix of Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix. In a good way. Intense and artistic. It so mesmerizing to see historical figures as modern day people. You do great work with the little historical resources you have.

His eyes may not have been blue...the peasant girl (his biological mother ) was of African descent.
The look of him. That guy would see right you, into your soul, tell you things you never knew about yourself.
Some historians believe that in the self-portrait Leonardo did of himself, he drew himself looking much older than he was. And some believe that the reason the Mona Lisa resembles him is that it was his interpretation of his mother who he never knew. A Florentine merchant's wife, Lisa del Giocondo, posed for the Mona Lisa. Sigmund Freud even made the suggestion that the Mona Lisa was a memory of Leonardo's mother. Leonardo spent his whole life working on the Mona Lisa, and after four years of working on it, he refused to give the commissioned painting to the Florentine merchant. It was also said that he took more than four years working on the painting, possibly 12 to 16 years or more. He spent his entire life carrying the painting around with him. It was important enough to him that he had it always by his side up until his death.

Very interesting. He made a mother for himself, then, perhaps talking to her and imagining her answers - no wonder he wanted to have the painting with him. Some may find that macabre, but I just think it's touching, if that's indeed how it was. It may have helped him overcoming attachment issues. Shows how important parents and attachment figures are to us.

@@wednesdayschild3627 You're probably thinking of his stepmother. Leonardo never met his biological mother because that was the custom back then. His father was of a higher social ranking, so Leonardo was left with his father. However, because he was considered a bastard, he couldn't inherit his father's line of work, which is why he became a painter. They have only very recently discovered who Leonardo's biological mother was.

All of my life I have been told of his genius. I believe that he wrote things down.
He was such a beautiful beautiful man, on every level.
I carry a picture of him with me always. He was a master of creation, the Einstein of his day, and like Einstein, he strove to understand the mind of his creator.
Fantastic work, this is great to imagine Leonardo's appearance in the Renaissance time. It is said that he would buy birds in cage in markets to release them and watch them flying away free and also that he was a vegetarian !
He gives me a university proffesor vibe. I would love to have a cup of coffee with him and talk😄
I am studying at art high school currently, and we do learn a lot about artists, their life and of course, their art. When we were learning about Da Vinci, he was just so fascinating to me, his personality and his mindset of a genious. I truly admire his works. We did read some texts from his personal diary and it seems that he really liked going to (only male) spa as his notes said something about admiring beautiful young men, and then, I believe, he went home to draw some anatomy, if he didnt draw at the spa already, which I totally believe he would do. Such a deep person full of talent.
500 years later and both he and Mozart are yet yet to be matched in their genius, especially Leonardo
I felt like I could reach out and stroke his face. I do like the blue eyes. Thank you for sharing your talent

Thank you! I think the blue eyes are very intense in a good way
He was an artist and science enthusiast, also was strong and kept himself in good shape. He looks quite handsome even in his later years, and there's a kindness in his expression. I daresay that Leonardo is one silver fox 😋
I wish his brows had been more downward and lengthy prominent as in his own sketch, and no ear visible, longer beard. I do believe from all images in history I have seen, his eyes were pale. Incredible job Bekka. Marvelous work!!
Hey Becca, I'm sure myself and all your audience would love to see Mona Lisa reconstructed as a "real life" woman. As an Artist myself, Leonardo's work, especially his sketches fascinated me ...
I've watched many of your videos, and you're a fantastic artist. I have to say your artistic rendition of Leonardo doesn't seem to have the exhaustion and sadness that the self-portrait seems to have. I know you show people happy and smiling, but I don't think we would have met that man if we had known him in his own time.
I love you. You bring my favourite historical figures back to life. My top favourite is Hatchepsut. She is my Queen. Please carry on.
Wow, wow, wow whatever you doing don't stop. God bless you! I love it and I believe it. That's him, handsome devil he is. Well done my dear!
I was hoping you'd make him smile for a moment!
Really excited for Vlad the impalers portrait !!
I'd love to see a Da Vinci as a youth, maybe in his early 20s.
I’m obsessed w him, I have a quote of his tattooed across my shoulder as well as traveled to Italy to see the Da Vinci Museum! Honestly, your likeness of him with BLUE eyes looks the most accurate/realistic in my opinion, I love it!
Leonardo was a hottie, who knew. You really do bring these historical figures to life. Thank you so much. How about one of the life and reconstruction of Benjamin Franklin.
Your work is incredible. I have to believe Mr. DaVinci himself would be very proud.
Great job! Here's one for you: Rumi, the famous Persian poet and philosopher.
Beautiful! I loved the blue eyes!
There is a Leonardo drama series from the BBC which was shown recently and it starred Aidan Turner (Poldark) as the young da Vinci. Too handsome, I think. But your recreation of a modern-day Leonardo shows some hints of another actor, Joaquin Phoenix, who should play the artist in future films. Well done!
Ive watched every one of these videos and I become strangely emotional at every reveal.
Becca, your interpretation of his sketch looks gorgeous. He must have been a handsome man and honestly, I would loved to have the opportunity to spend some time in his presence. Mesmerizing reconstruction!
I once heard, that the image of this old da Vinci painting actually shows his grandfather (painted by him). Thank you for your videos! 🙂
A photo impression of the shroud of Turin would be very interesting to see. Much respect for your work, great video.
Excellent. I think the eyes could go either way. Most of my family is from just up the road from Vinci (Cintolese) and the eyes can go either way. There's also somewhat odd combinations like blue eyes and jet black hair, as my Nonna had.
I fell down a youtube hole and found this. This looks very much like the Leonardo de Vinci I've always seen in my head. Well done. You're a beautiful artist.
Thank you for bringing to life probably the greatest genius in human history.
I will share this! I love da Vinci, but have only seen 3 of his paintings in person, and one other I think is mis-attributed. I'm an artist with ADHD, so go figure I am a fan of the man. On the eyes: he would intentionally skew the eyes of his model, such as in his Ginevra de' Benci, in DC. The reason is that it is an amplification of the presence of the sitter; it amplifies the beauty, at the expense of veracity. Leonardo used license! Years later, Picasso did this to Gertrude Stein (and I have used the visual device because the master's did). So, a realistic portrait would line up the eyes - just a quibble. I am blown away by your work! Bravo!!

Happy Birthday Leonardo, born on this day, April 26, 1452!
I would love to see him and tell him about all of the things that he envisioned that are now possible. That there's actually a surgical machine called a Da Vinci Such an incredible person. Thanks for bringing him to life. Wonderful job!
I just want to gaze into his eyes forever.
Wow! what a very nice looking man he is and yes he does look very approachable you can see there is a kind humor to him :) I like him with the blue eyes very lovely!

Oh yeah that's him! I know it is! My soul knows it, I can feel it! Excellent job!
Interesting. I have been quite fascinated with Da Vinci since I was a young boy.
love it... its been said that Leonardo painted himself in that unfinished piece where The Virgin is on the center holding the child. the guy on the painting if is him, looks out to us......
Green eyes. For sure. ;-) Your work is amazing, Becca!
One portrait I would love to see in a modern version is Dante. Many years ago I was told my brother looks very much like Dante; I'd love to see if that's true.
I love watching your videos. Leonardo DaVinci is definitely a very intriguing figure from the past. Last year I went to Milan, Leonardo was paid to paint the last super there. Although I was not able to see the last super painting, right across from the church stands his apartment and grape vines that he grew. The vines were extracted from the land and were genetically cloned. Now the apartment garden grows the authentic grapes he grew at the time. There’s also a museum with some of his sketches. It’s definitely worth visiting Milan if you get a chance.
Excellent work as always.
I find him handsome! Nice job.
Can you make him smile? I think it would transform his features. He looks like a guy I saw getting off a boat somewhere around Half Moon Bay. Gorgeous old hippie dude.
Oh my this is an interesting production!. Salvator Mundi, side profile by Melzi, and Verrocchio's David, all look like the same dude to me!.
The moment I saw the blue eyes it felt so right

Very good indeed. I think the blue eyed version is slightly more powerful, but either way, you have done a great job.
I love your depictions and artistry! It really brings these historic figures to life. Keep up your amazing work! KUDOS!
Da Vinci certainly experimented with making lenses and was interested in the effects on vision, so his work was a precursor to eye glasses.
A true wise man of humanity indeed
Amazing study of Leonardo - I think you are right about the Verrocchio statue. I'd like to see a good likeness of Julius Caesar. From what I've of learned of Julius Caesar, the tusculum portrait is most likely done from life. There's something in that smirk...
I personally feel your work is outstanding. It’s a true pleasure to watch your channel.
I prefer the brown eyed portrait--he seems more intense and present, somehow.

If I'm not mistaken, Da Vinci's likeness was used to portray Plato in Raphael's: The School of Athens.
