During all that time I have been kidnapped, shipwrecked, shot at, chased by armies and Indians, and attacked by animals. Yet your art simply brings this old man to tears. You make History into a living thing, more real and alive than any book.

Why is Alexander called Great? He was a war lord was he not? Imagine is She, Putin or similar people now has the same drive, we all will be cursed.

Imagine being an archaeologist and finding Alexander's tomb. The greatest find there would not be his remains or his sarcophagus, it would be Alexander's personalized compilations of Homer's Iliad with handwritten annotations from Aristotle himself! A legendary book, carried by Alexander all over the known world from Macedonia to the Indus River in India. It would be simply one of the greatest archaeological finds in history.

You're right, it wld be one of the greatest finds since discovering King Tut's tumb. But, no wonder Alexander carried homer's books around with him, they can require the reader to re-read the many pages asking themselves "What did Homer mean by that?"

My history professor was Greek. He was an outstanding instructor. His classes were always packed. We were mesmerized by his teachings of world history with characters like Alexander the Great, Thomas Jefferson, the Cherokee Indians, etc. It was my 2nd favorite college course. My 1st was my English professor who taught us about the ancients: Aristotle, Plato, and more recent Aleksandre Solzhenitsyn. Both subjects were truly unforgettable.

A great prof can make almost any interesting… well, maybe not statistics. I had quite a few great college professors. My all time favorite was Dr. Stone. I had him for advanced mammalian physiology. Looked and talked like Tommy Chong. Rain, shine or snow, the man was always in flip flops. Great lecturer and story teller. Didn’t cheat with power points, always illustrated on a chalk board at a pace that his students could digest the information.

Omg imagine having Aristotle as your tutor. He was a well-known philosopher and just another person in society but the fact feels unreal.

Tawny hair that catches red in the sunlight and becomes properly golden in summer is definitely a thing, probably all descriptions are true. As for the dark hair during battle, rain or muck will do that to you! Amazing recreations and format, love this channel!

Yes, @Sadbh Uí Gheimhridh, people of his time described him as having naturally yellow hair, golden hair & reddish-golden hair & hair of a golden lion, and skin very fair with a hint of reddish to that white sometimes, so he was a golden or ginger blonde. There is no reason to doubt that he was fair & had golden hair like they said he did, there is no reason for them to make that up way back then as others would have seen him too. He likely sunburned his fair skin sometimes & his hair would lighten further from light reddish-golden blonde to golden blonde in the sun as you suggest in the summer. My hair does the same thing naturally getting lighter in the summer like shimmering spun gold & my skin is very fair too, so I get what you are saying; it's certainly not unheard of even now. The Moziac picture is the least representative of him according to the 'ancient history' recorded descriptions of him etc., but I agree that naturally golden hair and sun-bleached hair will often look a bit darker when wet, etc,. (especially more so than artificially platinum over-bleached hair), so that is a good theory from you also. Love this channel too! 😃

I think one of my favorite Alexander moments is shortly before the Battle of Gaugamela when Parmenion wanted to accept Darius' deal, and Alexander replied with: "And if I were Parmenion I would accept it." Simply glorious. If I may add: in addition to your awesome artwork, I love your engaging and concise narration, too. You have a knack for storytelling in more ways than one! This was just fantastic! I have read some history of Alexander, but nothing in depth. I was amazed by the little I read. This just blew me away. You made him real with both words and art.

Wonderful recreation of Alexander's life . Diligent research goes into the making of this video and very well narrated. Awaiting other such brilliant videos on ancient history.

I was fortunate to study all of this during classics studies in Middle/High School (we took three years of Latin). Loved all the stories and this video is very well done.

I really enjoyed this. I knew enough already about Alexander to appreciate the veracity of your account. I would only niggle the point of referring to "the Greeks" as though the Macedonians didn't belong to that category --- but they were as much Greeks as any and all others such as Spartans, Athenians, Corinthians, Thracians so on and so forth. But Macedonia under Philip had an even bigger "tribal" ego than some of the others! Your depiction of what Alexander looked like I consider utterly brilliant! And then showing him as a modern man!....wonderful. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this! Some years ago the Metropolitan Museum in New York had an exhibit called the Age or World of Alexander. It was wonderful., but what took my breath were 2 tiny portrait carvings , possibly furniture decoration - one each of Phillip and Alexander. The one of Alexander is clearly an idealized Greek youth. In this case it is Phillip who leaps off the catalogue pages. The carver knew him - that much is clear. How delightful to see other options!

I love your videos. I listen to them when I am just relaxing to learn some history (which by the way I never really liked and could not retain very well, but your videos and the way you tell the story makes them memorable for me. I think the re-creations of the faces of these people and comparisons help cement them in mind.)

Fascinating! One of the best biographies of Alexander that I have ever seen. "Is it not passing brave to be a king, and ride in triumph through Persepolis!" And, as always, a fabulous recreated portrait! I cannot help but notice the presence of red hair again. Cleopatra (possibly), Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Plantagenets, the Tudors, Katharine of Aragon... The red hair is just something that seems to crop up over and over in the rulers of Europe. Interesting!

According to historian Harold Lamb, Genghis Khan was caucasian with red hair and grey eyes. Lamb, who was fluent in at least seven languages read many of sources from original documents rather than from translations. The second edition was a very good reader; Lamb, a respected historian, was also a popular writer of fiction and lamented the lack of fiction in the western world that had heroes from Asia and the Far East. For a man just out of the Victorian Era, that was quite remarkable. And all the Chinese-looking portraits of the Khan were done during Kublai Khan's reign, and the Mongol Emperor had a Chinese mother, so naturally looked Chinese. Making the Emperor's grandfather resemble him was political expediency. So, yeah, gingers are not to be taken lightly.

Alexander was taught by Aristoteles who had a life long pupil Theophrastos, who became his successor. Hence it is likely that the latter accompanied him and also instructed Alexander.

Becca, your artwork is careful and soulful. The humbleness or humility you touch upon your "subjects" with, the pure intention to follow the statues and paintings at your disposal as closely as possible, shows self-discipline, and a noble character. The result is breathtaking, dignified, and majestic. You are able to see and bring forth the beauty of the soul. And yes, we move into tears, and we have frisson when we inwardly recognize perhaps an old friend or someone we knew - that time - very well.

Thank you so much. I have always thought this man is one of the most fascinating in all of history. It was GREAT to get a glimpse of him.

I traveled to Scotland in May 1999... Visited Scone Palace and saw a portrait of William Wallace... He looked nothing like Mel Gibson...😏 Also saw a statue of Robert the Bruce at Stirling Castle... I love men in kilts!! Scotland is so beautiful...and the Scottish are amazing people!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I didn’t want to come back home!!

@@RoyaltyNowStudios this is Interesting. She mentioned William Wallis. Do you know that in Skotland the Gordon Clan where also Makedonian people. They came from Gordonija in near to Gevgelija still in Makedonia to find ..these clans hellped William Wallis in the war against the English people. What a Story that would be.The one of them Was also called Alexander I think the 4th.and the Lions on the coat of arms is the same from Makedonia ! Aswell the doodlesack..so I am proud that I am Makedonian ❤🇲🇰☦

Fabulous-in every sense of the word! However, I was shocked to learn Alexander was 5’6”--I had always pictured him in my mind’s eye to be at least 5’10”. Thanks for a wonderful presentation of historical facts regarding an almost mythical man of all time.

afaik the facial reconstruction was based on the statues. those statues were mostly idealized versions of real people. like all those filters ppl use today in social media to look ess ugly, fat or whatever.

(To the narrator) You have an outstanding voice. So calming and soothing. No stridency, no sharpness. No cheese grater on my brain. You do equally well recreating faces and describing history. Beautiful work and I love to listen.

Not just as a conqueror but as a man who had a vision of humanity that was way ahead of his time! I was always wondering how did he really looked like, after seeing many pictures in the books and statues but you blown me away! Unbelievable work! Thank you for bringing to life my childhood hero!

✨💖✨When I was studying art history in high school, a photograph of the sculpture you chose for your modern interpretation was in my textbook. When I turned the page, I fell instantly in love-as only a teenager can. While my friends were fawning over, well I have no idea, I was reading about Alexander the Great. That was over 45 years ago, and I still remember my youthful zest. Though my crush on Alexander the Great has dimmed with age, I never last my love of art history.

He was brutal as all others before and after him; his men raped women and children, enslaved hundreds and their bounty was always what he stole from every place they conquered. His generals were savage, brutal. There is nothing to be enamoured about him. The issue is: people believe in Hollywood fairy tales and what "historians" say. They don't tell all the truth about the monsters they write about. Alexander, by the way, was under a very evil influence since childhood, his goal was power, wealth and be above everyone. That was the real thing about his spirit that everyone should know. Today, another young man is also taken by this evil... and very soon he will destroy his own land. The Prince of Morocco... He is under the same evil spirit and day and night he dreams about the day he will be King. The poor people of Morocco have no clue what will fall upon them! He will be the cause of a long bloodshed. Alexander and this boy, have all in common when it comes to greed and evil ambition.

We were talking about this in history class in college. The lecturer said isn't it funny to consider that all of us by age 33 we may have a decent job, a family, if we're lucky we may own our house and have a car, but Alexander by 33 had conquered most of the known world.

Pella? Interesting, I've been there. It was a birthplace not only of Alexander, but also of Krste Petkov Misirkov (1874 - 1926), who promoted the idea for a separate (slavic) Macedonian nation in his book "On the Macedonian Matters" (1903).

​@@costasvas341, I assume that you consider 'Macedonia' an exclusively hellenic term, but it's not. 1. It is not universally accepted that the ancient Macedonians were Hellenes (see: Demosthenes, prof. Badian-Green-Borza); 2. Even if Ancient Macedonia was hellenic, the antiquity is long gone and the term 'Macedonia' acquired new meanings thru the centuries and meant different things to different people. For example, the Romans adopted the term and had a province called Macedonia (which covered a wider area than the original ancient state); later some Aromanians began to call themselves Macedo-Romanians or Macedonians for short; and finally, the Slavs adopted the term, first in a regional sense, and later as a designation of a separate (slavic) ethnic group - as in the case of Misirkov.

@@illbeback3168 Based on what you said, you ought to deny any relation between the modern-day inhabitants of "North Macedonia" to the ancient kingdom of Macedonia. Is that correct? In other words, if the term Macedonia changed through the years, what claim could the modern-day state of Slavs have to the heritage of Alexander the Great, Philip II and Macedonia?

As usual beautiful reconstruction of Alexander. On another subject would you consider doing a history and reconstruction of King Charles XII of Sweden aka Carolus Rex? He was nicknamed the "Alexander of the North" and he was a very youthful commander in the 18th century during the Great Northern War against Russia as Tsar Peter the Great's main adversary.

I am amazed as to how you do this. I do so enjoy learning the history as well as seeing the recreations. Well done.

I am very impressed with your work, you seem to do a lot of good thorough research on your subjects, you sound enchanting yourself and your pronunciations of so many people and places is excellent, went to your website to see what you look like, wasn't disappointed, love to see one of your computer generated images of yourself, have one? done one? will do one? I like classical history the most but also enjoy some of your other historical accounts and depictions. keep up the excellent work! I imagine in the future there will be full life size 3D moving recreations of your subjects, that would be something special to meet Alexander the Great or Cleopatra!

Train a young person's mind to gain its greatest strength through the power of critical thinking--and you set the foundation of a great leader. I seem to be a lone proponent for teaching 3rd graders the basics of the classical logic, still holding power today.
