Leonard finally said in 2017 that he thought Hearns won. Classy move by Ray, this was a close fight.

These guys are so evenly matched. They took turns hurting each other. They could both punch and box. amazing rivalry.

Two of the absolute best boxers ever. Tommy was the only man that Ray simply could not outbox. But Ray was also the only man who could really get to Tommy in the exchanges. I wish they would have had 3 or 4 fights, They were outstanding champions.

We know why they didn't have 3 or 4 fights. Hearns wanted to fight Leonard again after 1981. Leonard denied Hearns and the Boxing world of another meeting...until he thought Hearns was ripe for the picking in 1989!

Duran granted Leonard a rematch immediately. Leonard wanted to brag about beating Hearns over and over again. I have respect for Tommy. Next to none for Leonard. Just has too much ego.

The fact that he didn't feel compelled to showcase, that he could win an immediate rematch, says a lot about Leonards mentality as a fighter. I personally believe his fear of losing was greater than his actual will to win. Obviously this made him one of the greatest fighters in history, but he knew very well that he would likely not beat Hearns again a second time. Not anytime soon.

How did they come up with a draw?... That was like 8-4 in favor of Hearns...

When Tommy is boxing it’s a beautiful thing

The term "educated left jab" comes to mind when you watch Tommys left. Everybody talks about Tommys right hand but his left set everything up for him.

Great fight. First time I kissed a girl was this night...I had it even on points because of the two knockdown 's.

@@cade9173 because round 5 and the 12th in which hearns took alot of punishment thus the scorers sees that as a 10-8 rounds. Simple.

Leonard is CLASS LESS , so much credit to the hitman for droppin weight and and walkingg the tight rope contract stipulations leonard constantly made him do ! Yea im a motor city cobra born and bread but ive never seen anyone hit a man like Tommy , with his frame !? Pshhhh one of a kind he was so versatile and always stayed humble and to his roots! 💪💯

the "draw" was manufactured by giving Leonard a 10-8 round in the 12th. Which means, it was manufactured out of nothing. Hearns won this fight, going away.

Sugar Ray said it himself in later interviews that Hearns won. There is no controversy, both fighters agree, Hearns won that fight.

Great fight, Hearns went on to win the light heavyweight title after this, whereas Leonard was at the end of his career.

@@robbereal1982 Even if it was close, Hearns still got robbed. You knock your opponent down twice, that's a tough point deficit to overcome. It's one thing to say the fight was a draw (I think that's a stretch to think that) but I don't see how anyone could say Leonard won the fight. There's just no way. Even if you score one of the rounds Leonard won a 10-8 round I still don't see how it's possible.

So…SRL knocks Hearns THROUGH THE ROPES in their first fight and it wasn’t called a knockdown…yet they call an obvious SLIP (there was NO punch) by Leonard a knockdown in the second fight??!! Laughable. Leonard hurt Hearns MORE in the second fight than Hearns actually “hurt” Leonard. A draw was probably the correct outcome.

FFS Hearns won this fight!!!!!! I always enjoyed when Sugar Ray got whopped to the canvas after this one. He is hiding. He always was, and he still is.

I get that your intention is to insult Ray but be mindful that in the process you're taking a shot at Hearns. Thomas Hearns fought the very best of Ray Leonard and in my estimation Hearns earned the victory, he didn't get it by fighting the worst of Ray Leonard, Hearns earned it because he beat the very best Ray Leonard had to offer.

@@joshuac6389 No you don´t get it at all. Leonard was a fantastic fighter. Be he was a coward. He was hiding most of the 80´s. He did not win over Hagler, and certainly not here against Hearns. He sure knew the people that could manufacture the right results for him.

@@1981lashlarue no. I'm saying I see why it was a draw. Because even though hearns ddnt go down he was hurt 2 times and took a beating in those 2 rounds which they considered 10-8 which cancels out those knock downs. Thus no robbery. But I can see the argument for both guys. IMO.
