Ғылым және технология

In today's showdown, everyone is a winner really. You can't go wrong with these machines but some might be heavier lifters than others.
Let me know in the comments which you would choose and why.

    I bought a Thinkpad X220 Tablet, Upgraded it with a 120gb SSD, 256gb SATA III card, 16gb of RAM, It already had the faster WIFI card and an IPS display I paid 219.00 with free shipping and it is a beautiful little laptop. Runs the same or in most cases better than most of the newer machines, and yes it's an i7 with 2 cores and 4 threads. This Lenovo is a beast of a laptop. Typing on it right now. LOVE IT!!!

    What about battery life, I am looking for x220 or x240 and I was wondering what will happen with the battery life after such upgrade (or even without doing anything)

  • @LaptopRetrospective

    @LaptopRetrospective

    It's an interesting situation because if you get the x220 there is a lot upgrade and the battery can only be so big. It's also using a power heavier CPU. The x240 on the other hand uses an Ultrabook low-wattage CPU and has a dual battery system. You will get more performance and more upgradability out of an x220 however if battery life is your primary concern the x240 stands alone in that regard.

    I've got a nice story about the x201 as well :) my x201 has been halfway submerged in seawater 6 years ago. back then i took it apart, rinsed the components with tapwater and let them dry for two days, after that, put it together and it has been working ever since. Nice detail: today i went back to the x201 because my x250 died of a little bit of moisture:(

    Something else to consider. If you can get an X201 for a good price unless you are doing something that requires a seriously high powered CPU or over 8 GBs of RAM it is still a good option. People often forget that the Express Card slot gives you alot of flexibility. For 20 or 30 dollars you can get Express card adapters that will allow you to add anything from a vintage serial port to full size Firewire and even USB 3.

    I bought a refurbed X201 5 years ago with a 2010 manufacture date that I use for personal use and it is still going strong. I must have gotten one that hardly saw any use or the whole outer case and keyboard was replaced as it looked like new. For work, my company issued me a brand new X230 in 2013. The X230 worked great for two years then it suddenly started cutting out without warning as if someone pulled out the battery, I was told that this is an issue with the thermal paste. At first it would happen only occasionally, but after a few months the frequency increased to where it was occurring several times a day. I had it exchanged for another X230 that after a year started doing the same thing. I then exchanged it again, that one was in the early stages of cutting out about once a week when I was issued a new Lenovo Yoga in 2016 which I still have with no issues. As for the X201, I am about to upgrade it to Windows 10 and replace the battery. If that goes well and it still performs okay, I will swap the HD for an SSD. To me the X201 always felt more solid than the X230.

My x210 has an i7 (first gen,,,) The x230 that I plan to upgrade to will have the RAM from the old machine etc. But the x230 has an i5 (3rd gen.) Are they just about equivellent? Since I love my x220 and I bought a t480 and in SYNAPTICS in advanced or general options there are not many options to configure like the x220? • @certs743

    @certs743

    @@herrfaust2020 It is actually not much bigger. The stated screen resolution gives that impression but the footprint was like a miniature version of the old IBM R51 I used to have. It is definitely not a widescreen. Apparently the aspect ratio was 8:5 but in terms of usable real estate and shape it was far closer to the older IBM models. The screen is only 12.1 inches so I am not sure what you mean by bigger.

  • @certs743

    @certs743

    3 жыл бұрын

    @UCGmHJmzmA38lQGCfCyCmwBg I own one. Turns out 8:5 and 16:10 are the same thing. But to call it widescreen is a stretch. Sure it is a rectangle but it is still closer to the older aspect ratio. 16:10 is more square anyway which is why it is somewhere in between. But on a 12 inch screen there is no way that involves a serious size difference. Maybe if we were talking a 17 inch. I also have an old Apple 23 inch Studio display which is 16:10 and sure at that point it gets a bit crazy. lol My point is all the X200 series had 12 displays regardless of aspect ration so I am kind of confused why you think the X201T is so much bigger.

  • @herrfaust2020

    @herrfaust2020

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@certs743 , the body and battery of the X201T is much deeper than an X201. Like you said, the footprint of an X201T is like a 4:3/5:4 ThinkPad (squarish), whereas the X201 is more rectangular. 8:5 ratio is the same as 16:10. It is considered widescreen.

    @@LaptopRetrospective It's the factory one! And it's fully loaded from the factory with the 9 cell battery, 4G, the faster WiFi card Lenovo offered at the time (the Centrino Ultimate-N), 4GB of RAM (later upgraded to 8GB) and the 90W power supply; but the hard drive was missing so I added a 250GB SSD. It's a second hand machine and I managed to snatch it up for 120€ so I'm quite happy with it! I don't even want to know how much the original owner spent on this configuration at the time, it was certaintly not cheap! xD

    by all means, please DO treat yourself to an IPS panel as soon as you can afford it. i did upgrade the screen on my X220 out of necessity (wrecked the original panel) and it is just SOOOO much better. especially because of the improved brightness and contrast. with the TN panel i could barely read anything when i brought my laptop outside on a sunny day. reading emails while sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee? was not happening with the TN panel but with the IPS it is not a problem. by the way - how much better is the X230's CPU performance compared to the X220 (assuming both are equipped with i5 CPUs) - i want a new 12" thinkpad sometime in the future and i don't mind the new keyboard but i DO want klicky buttons with the track point i guess the X240 is not for me as all laptops with U processors that i have used so far felt pretty underwhelming (they seem to always run out of breath when CPU power is needed the most)

    The old keyboard is probably the only reason I'd still opt for the X220 myself, otherwise I'd pick at least the X230 if I hadn't the X240 already. The shared jack for microphone and headphones is a bit annoying but same can be said about the T420 that I also own and honestly... I don't care too much as I barely use a mic anyway. This reminds me I still need to upgrade my X240 to 8G RAM and increase disk space, lol.
