That’s the indestructible laptop like Nokia
Only 3 the big floppy disk 3.5 inch floppy disk and the cd and dvd Hard disk sd card micro sd card
Congrats. Has it really been seven years? I'm not sure when I discovered your channel. Cool, I remember playing with a notebook that had a detachable trackball, as well as ones with the trackball where the touchpad would be.
Detachable trackball eh? Sounds like an upcoming video. 😉
Still using my x220i with Devuan linux with 16gb and ips screen... Great machine. Thinking about x230 for collection)
Very nice!
I have one but i need a laptop
On my broken Sony Vaio I have to disassemble it and then short the power switch wires inside.
I have a thinkpad L13 yoga with amd. The bluetooth and wifi keeps disappearing and the only eay to get it back is to restart the laptop, worse part is the that sometimes i had to restart it twice. Did everything they told me on faq. None of it fixed it. Also just a week ago the hinge broke. Its a thinkpad so i thought it was as tough as my previous unit. It was held by only two screws on the screen cover. Not three like on my previous thinkpad. Quality is becoming less thinkpad it seems. Very disappointed
The L is built to a different price point than the X series. How old was it?
@@LaptopRetrospective funny as i was just replying to your message awhile ago. my bluetooth disappeared. so i instead used the laptops keyboard and trackpad. only to realize my wifi also disappeared. so i hat to reset the device. and wifi returned but bluetooth was still missing. so i had to shut it down and turn it on again. and still bluetooth was missing. this forced me to push the button behind the laptop to disengage the battery to remove all the static left on the laptop. now im back and it all works again. this happens a lot.on my previous laptop, i use to just put my laptop on sleep and i never had any problem with battery draining or wifi bluetooth going missing. i have reported this to lenovo. as its a year old warranty no longer is applicable and i do not have another laptop to use to have it serviced in another country (which will probably take more than a month with the shipping etc) my L13 yoga i believe is the gen 3 with amd ryzen pro 7 . i hope lenovo does listen to complaints. because this is a hardware issue and not software. lenovo is the only laptop company that still seems to keep the buttons for the touchpad and keep the trackpad. so i do hope they improve quality. this is gen 1 kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWystZOAqrfJlrw.html . it has three screws on the screen. the L13 gen 3 only has 2, the plastic that holds the screw is actually broken on mine. tried searching for replacement online and only found gen 2 gen 1 screen. so im left with one option, super glue. which did work. but i am not comfortable with this solution, so now i no longer fully 360 turn the hinge. i just use it like a regular laptop.
These early elite books have serious driver issues. That’s all I know. I have an elite book 8440p. Great laptop if it weren’t for the driver issues. Constant black screens after waking from sleep. Also occasionally throttles the processor for no goddamn reason to just 0.19ghz. DisplayPort audio doesn’t work either with all but the oldest nvidia driver available and the quick launch buttons do not work properly on windows 10. The IDT audio control panel does not work properly on windows 10 either and the intel wifi occasionally stops working too. worst of all my 8440p had begun showing “product information not valid” out of nowhere and the microphone would stop working when the laptop goes to sleep. So I no longer like the laptop anymore.
I have 2 W541's, different screens and gpus, apart from that they are the same. Even the cheaper one is great, if you couldn't guess, that's why I got two!
The W series was no joke.
Happy 30th Gents! Thanks for the interview. First job in IT was rolling out 365's to accountants within a major Australian accounting firm in the mid '90's. Fell in love there and then. Still rocking the T series. May not be IBM built but still a great machine.
Batteries for these seem so hard to find. Does anyone have ideas? Can they take the same ones as the regular X61?
As time moves forward, getting originals recelled is probably going to be the only option unless somebody reverse engineers it.
Thank you for posting this; a valuable resource for those researching the design language. I am a fan of the 1981 5150, and while I am familiar with a Displaywriter, I had never seen some of these alternate pre-release design ideas -- fascinating!
Glad you enjoyed it Jim!
This is a great candidate for game streaming from my at-home workstation with sunshine and moonlight! I just bought the tablet model for $35 (hope I wasn't scammed) and tested streaming on a Core 2 Duo T5470 and GMA X3100 with one of my other older laptops, and it did relatively well with minimal latency at 1280x800.
That's impressive!
The port by minute 5:16 is for the SIM Card. Antenna+WWAN Module +SIM Card = "mobile/cellular Internet"
This is the only video I could find that expains everything (especialy cons). Thank you!
Glad to be of service.
can it play half life 2
Probably doesn't have the GPU for it :D
@@LaptopRetrospective aw man
I also had my Thinkpad T430 from 2022, still has it, it's a beast and with every optimization i did, it came out SOO GOOD! Sadly, it died on 11th july 2024 because it wasnt starting like i press the power button but it's fan spins to the max for one second and then it shuts off with no signs of display or life, i targeted my RAM because I have 8gb (2 stick 4gb each) of ram and one stick may have died BUT the processor wont even clock it too! So i went to a repair shop and the repair guy replaced my i5 3320M with i7 so it started good! But as i am a gamer especially Minecraft, so the money i can spend on it, i can just get a w540 with even a nvidia card! So yeah i loved my beastpad but salute to it. I'll sell it to the market for good price then add some more money to get the W540.
It's a strange day when a ThinkPad is finally replaced.
This vid does demonstrate the voice quality of the camera as well as the Conference Microphone which are definitely better than the laptop or your clip-on mic. Some KZreadrs ought to review this setup together or individually to improve their audio quality. good demonstration. Cheers.
The clip-on comes close but the laptop does fall short vs the 8 microphones built into this device. Audio is often overlooked it is true.
Cheers.
should i use exactly 65w charger(3rd party) or can i use 100W or more watts charger ? is it safe? any usb c cable is capable to charge laptop or should i get 100W cable ?
T500👍↩️👨🏭👋🔚👼🌻🌸..
This was very common on Toshiba laptops at the time and the sliding cover was there to prevent the laptop from turning on accidentally while in a bag. The main downside was that one had to remember to slide the cover back into place.
Toughbook cf-28 mk 1 uses a key
Toughbooks have some cool and quirky designs.
@@LaptopRetrospective fr I love using a key to turn on my laptop
Going to try this with my T420 and Radeon 9 390
Let us know how it goes.
i showed it a picture of madison beer
In 2024, my Lenovo Yoga laptop has the power switch just adjacent to the USB port. So when I use my fingers to hold the laptop while I unplug the cable single-handed, I turn off the laptop. Genius.
Wow, I'll need to be on the lookout for that ergonomic fun.
Cool. Looks kind of useful especially when you have annoying kids, nowadays all computers look the same
Some certainly suffer from sameness. Never thought about it being used to stop kids from turning it on. 😂
Dont know about laptops but i used to turn on my kia rio with a wooden stick
Lol, there is a story there.
why is that weird
I used the word weird only because you don't see this anymore. Trying to think of the last laptop I saw with it besides this one or from the same line.
@@LaptopRetrospectiveold thinkpads have a slide power switch though it isnt a cover
Correct. The cover really makes it unique.
and 10 minutes later, lots of oily finger prints again lol
The troubles with something clean is it does attract dirt :D
🧰👨🏭💼👍👋🔙🌻🌸..
I bought X395 here recently. I'm very pleased with it. Big plus was the laptop came in mint condition. The previous one was somewhat surprise.
Always nice when they are like new.
I legit did not know that the Lenovo logos on these came in silver! I have a Titanium Z61m, IBM branded, and it has the absolutely delightful silver logo. It just looks so good.
Is the 1724 the "4" model? So the u5 & i7 models have a (single) cooling fan inside? What model came with the 512GB M.2? The i5 & i7? I got a hold of a 1724 (an e-waste dumpster find!) but the screen is gone (maybe still in the dumpster?). It has a single fan (also found an earlier Surface Win 8.1, also in terrible shape!) marked 512 GB. Thank you 🤓
Correct, the 1724 is a Pro 4.
@@LaptopRetrospective cool! Thank you the Win 10 on the device, is it a certain version for tablets? Also, can the Pro 4 be upgraded to Win 11?
@j.lietka9406 Standard Windows install. Officially 11 is not supported. Tiny 11 or other custom ISO files might work.
@@LaptopRetrospective I have heard of Tiny 11, but don't know what all it can be used on! Thank you
@j.lietka9406 I've seen it run well on a ThinkPad X201.
still have mine. linux revives pc's.
Yeah Linux helps but 1.5GB of RAM max hurts.
@@LaptopRetrospective it does with morris law but there are distro’s for everyday task (as you know). It’s a fun little peace a history to have.
i have this laptop.... and it's a very very very HORIBBLE piece of garbage.... it's too damn hot and gets me sudden shutdowns.... the spec are bad 2nd gen cpu very old integraded gpu wih old graphics library very bad performance even for lowest games rams are ddr3 ITS TOTALY A SCAM
A scam? Hardly. Sounds like modern expectations on a system from 12 generations ago.
@@LaptopRetrospective fr its really bad laptop
this machine is a beast and beautiful i have the same one i9 vPro soon i will upgrade the RAM and SSD
Nice upgrades.
@@LaptopRetrospective yeah mine is 4K HDR and Dolby Vision and Dolby ATMOS, based on my investigation you can upgrade to 4TB on 2 or 3 slots for more storage means 12TB total plus SD card i don't know yet the max storage for SD card, for memory RAM max 128GB DDR4 this machine is powerful with NVIDIA Quatro T2000 that's I have, the Lenovo Thinkpad T580 I remember I commented on another of your videos I gave to my wife and upgraded the RAM from 16 to 64GB DDR4 and don't need upgrade the storage because she don't save anything just for work, school and a game for kids, the Lenovo P15 Gen 1 that's for me with Windows 11 Pro 😁 i will upgrade everything little by little, Lenovo is the best, strong and fast
That's a lot of storage. I don't have a single machine with that much.
@@LaptopRetrospective The site show you a list of RAM and PCIe SSD you can see you can upgrade 4TB the storage each and 128GB RAM DDR 4
thank you for the detailed upgrades info!
You're welcome!
Another woodgrain surface for a retro channel is lame. I would expect your new desk to be made from TrackPoint caps!😊
That would be a lot of TrackPoint caps. Neat idea but talk about expensive. 😂
love the new setup. happy for you and looking forward to many more videos and reviews. big up!
Cheers!
Rip ...
Still running.
the bottom bit towards the right side of the touchpad isnt coming off yet every screw is off?
I can't believe I thought everything is on the floor this whole time! The shelves are such a nice solid background. Love the DIYness of this setup, that's the true spirit of tech exploration to me.
Oh wow, filming on the floor would have been painful. 😂
Congrats mate! Both on hitting the 26k mark and getting the new space sorted. Looks good, and sounds like it's going to make you workflow a mite easier to boot.
Yes, I'm looking forward to not juggling memory cards all the time.
Any chances of content on the new wave of ARM PCs? I'd love to hear your thoughts on one of the new Snapdragon X systems.
I'd love to get my hands on one. Time will tell when it happens.
Loving the new studio setup! Great work sir!!
Thanks Wes, looking forward to the improved digs.
Exciting! Looking forward to what’s to come!
Me too!
A professional channel deserves a proper studio, nice work.
Haha, I don't know about "professional" but thanks. 😂
Looking forward to your future videos, they'll look better then ever I'm sure.
Thanks! I'm looking forward to the newfound flexibility at the press of a button.
Looks great!
Thanks! There are still some finishing touches but I'm pretty stoked about the possibilities.
