LEICA Q3: Why is the KING of STREET Photography vs All Others.

Ойын-сауық

Have you ever wondered what makes a camera truly stand out for street photography? In this video, I dive deep into my experience with the Leica Q3 after a year of shooting, revealing why it might just be the ultimate choice for street photographers. Why did I pick the Leica Q3 over the Fuji X100VI, Ricoh GRIII, and Sony RX1RII? Having owned and extensively used all these cameras, I’ll share an unbiased comparison based on real-world experience with these fixed lens camera systems.
While the title of "best camera" is a very personal opinion, and I don’t believe in a perfect camera either, I think the Leica Q3 comes as close as it gets.
My review will be straight to the point. I won’t be talking about specs and any of that because I have done several videos that cover that, which I’ll list down below in this description.
So you may be in the market for a new street photography camera and wondering which one is the best among Fuji, Sony, and Ricoh. While I’m not trying to influence your decision, I hope this review of the Leica Q3 vs. all these other fixed lens cameras serves as a base for you to make your own decision.
For me, it’s not a matter of Full Frame vs. APS-C, affordable or expensive. It’s all about reliability and flexibility. The Leica Q3 has delivered and exceeded expectations when it comes to image quality and what’s possible with the camera. The Leica Q3's compact size, superb fast Summilux 28mm f1.7 lens, and straightforward user experience sold me. And while the Fuji X100VI and the Ricoh GRIII are great cameras that I continue to enjoy, I cannot call these cameras the only ones I could use if I had to choose only one. That title would be dedicated to the Leica Q3.
It is hard not to acknowledge the power of the Leica Q3. With its optically stabilized 28mm lens, minimalistic design, full-frame 60MP sensor, and a camera that just works really well for street photography, I continue to use it every time I get a chance, most often in combination with my Leica M11, which is how I’ve been rolling these days for that street adventure.
While the Leica Q3 has a high price of $6000 and it’s sold out every year, I was lucky enough to get one from its early launch and I don’t take a moment for granted with it.
I hope you enjoy this review and comparison of the Leica Q3, specifically for street photography. It may or may not be the one for you. Only you can decide.
I hope you enjoy the video. As always, feel free to comment with any questions you may have, subscribe for more content like this one, and see you in the next one.

Finally someone specifically calls out the magic trick of this lens: zone focus and Autofocus in one solution. For street shooters, zone focus can be an absolute must. But AF introduces so many shots which are exceedingly difficult at fast pace in the street via manual/zone (F1.4 moving portrait, for example). So the Q is literally the only effective solution on the market which is a single lens compact daily carry. Ultimate solution for many shooters/situations.

@@GastonShutters kinda famously inaccurate. Also, it's on a screen. Alerts everyone to what you're doing, and the whole purpose of zone focus is to set it on the lens, ready for every shot. Messing with a screen, might as well just stick to autofocus. Etc etc. I mean, just get a manual lens and do zone focus. Works perfect, as it has for some 75 years 🤷

Simple: if you can do everything with a 28mm then the Q3 is about $6K now if you want to have the capability of trying different focal length and apertures from a variety of manufacturers. This is an issue, yes. The only solution I found was to just train for it. Subdivide the remaining space in half, get that rotation to muscle memory. Then subdivide the two halves to introduce three "stops" of distance between the 2m meter and infinity. This is easier than expected because hyperfocal infinity is actually done by placing the marker center-- where-as effective infinity is done by placing it over the appropriate Aperture marker. A concession for the focus by wire implementation of physical zone depth. It's not perfect, but manageable with practice.
