I had an M6 for almost a year before selling it 2 months ago. It's a great camera but way overhyped and overpriced. I like shooting with different cameras so I couldn't justify owning a $2000 that I only used like once a month. I even like using my FM2n more.

Love seeing the visit to my favorite climbing crag in socal!
I purchased my M6 around 2010 in mint condition for 1000 Euro. Back then film was not so popular as today and analog camera not so expansive. Lucky me i also bought: Ricoh GR 1s, Rollei 35 afm, rollei qz 35 t, Leica C3, Leica Minilux, Olympus XA, Leica M4, Leica M4-P - all cameras way cheaper than today.
"don't go where i can't follow" -Samwise Gamgee - me, when jason gets a leica
It feels so good to hold. I've owned a lot of cameras, but the M6 fits my hands the best. The lenses are pretty good, too.
That Ken Rockwell burn though 😂!! But as to the M6, as I hobbyist I just can't justify the price when a Pentax MX is good enough for me. If photography was my living it'd be a different story though... Also wouldn't a cheap M-mount body with Leica glass make more sense than an M6 with a cheap non-Leica lens?

The quality of this video is immaculate! You deserve way more recognition!
i have watched only one of your other videos... but when that holga 120 joke came in, i instantly subscribed... so good
The reason to shoot a Leica M6 is to shoot Leica lenses (as many people say). I personally prefer the M2, M3, and M4. The M2 being my main camera for last 6 years and hasn't skipped a beat. But if you need a meter M6 is the way to go or a Konica Hexar RF, which I have and love.
I own a Leica R3 and I also love it! It's not on a hype train yet which makes it pretty affordable and you still get all the good Leica glass :)
I feel like when i got an m6 my photos got better, but after thinking about it I was for sure excited to use it, and loved using it as it feels so good to use so defintely did what you said... " wanted to get out and shoot more, forces you to practice and become a better photographer" so thats super true. Shame that cost 3k hahaha
i appreciate that your lens costs 1/20th of what the body does
Can’t believe you quoted Steve Yedlin. Loved it.
Not sure why anyone would use an M6 with out a Leica lens, but more power to ya. You are correct in the fact that it will not make you a better photographer. Back in the old days (early 90's), I shot a Pentax ME Super with a Ricoh 50mm f1.8 lens that my professor swore was a Leica lens. Maybe I should try to find that combo again?

Your camera collection is worth more than my house.
the dry sarcasm lets me know hell will be a great place.
a solid confusion i find in people's heads about the m6 is that both M6 & M6 TTL has TTL meterings throught the lens, while the TTL has only TTL Flash more other than bigger shutter dial. They are basically the same camera TTL are for sure built more recently, as some late m6 serials

great videos and photos man!
Some seriously beautiful shots in here. Probably the dopest camera I will never own haha.
As someone who started shooting before there were viable digital cameras, hell my second camera was a Nikon F3 (in many ways a better tool for general photography than any leica) the thing that makes Leica M cameras more than their lenses is that at the time it was the smallest fully manual 35mm camera and it was very quiet compared to a SLR, so if you were shooting in the streets and wanted to go unnoticed that was and still is only choice, it was discreet. The rest of it was splitting hairs. Today if you want to be discreet and are shooting digital in the street than the best choice is probably a Ricoh GR, a camera that is small and no one will take you seriously if you point it in their direction. That’s it, it is a quality too it’s nice to shoot with but those two features are what kept that camera in production long after Leica should have killed it in favor of the R system.

Ken Rockwells growing family OMG I'm dead
I've shot on Olympus OM-1 to F2 to Olympus MJU point & shoot, Leica M4-P and even the mighty Hasselblad 500C/M.. the Leica M system just feels more seamless and effortless to shoot with. Felt like I could focus faster and capture fleeting moments easily compared to any other cameras I've tried. On top of that, it is built well and robust yet does not weigh a ton like the F2 and Hassy 500C/M.. IMO the perfect balance not being in the way and producing great photos.
I owned a number of Leicas. M4-2 with motors, Leica CL 50th Anniversary edition((film) M3 and more, all with lenses. I don't have any now. But, I always had the desire for an M5. Yes, it was bigger, but a favorite. But, I wanted to use polarizing filters, which meant SLR cameras. Leica had a great system for SLR, but very expensive. The rest is history.

Hi dude, thanks for sharing. I had a m6 and sold it. Just kept the lenses. It never felt right for me and I just hate the film loading procedure. I was used to work on a Voigtlander and I still find it way superior for my kind of use. It may be more fragile, and feels a bit less resistant, but definitely cheaper. Also i had the feeling that when I am shooting with a leica on the streets everybody is staring at me, it attracts way too much attention, which it shouldn't
It's the yellow crocheted hats that kill me. so good!
Mate, if this is the biggest viewfinder you've ever used, you should definitely try the Agfa Optima series. Especially the 1535 Sensor which is the only rangefinder model from this series. It's also called "the other red dot camera" as it's got a red shutter release button and it's a rangefinder made in Germany. ✌

Though made in Canada instead of Germany, the Leica M4-P is the same as the M6, minus the TTL light meter. In other words, zinc top and bottom plates and steel inner gears. Both have the same frame lines. The M4-P can be had for about $1500 less than the M6. Just putting it out there.

1) because it has a simple working light meter (same concept exactly with 3 LEDs like the Yashica FX-3 since the 70s) 2) it does look good 3) YT'bers are always hyping the M6 only, not mentioning the M5, or M7. 4) Therefore the never ending prices raise.

It wasn't an M6 but I owned a Leica once, a very old one that my wife found in the bottom of a box she bought at an estate auction. Basically I got mine the same way you got yours except I didn't have to get dirty digging a hole. I don't recall what model mine was but it had two viewfinder, one for framing and another next to it for focusing. It did have that ridiculous need to disassemble the camera to change rolls of film however. Who thought that was a good idea, anyway? Anyhow, mine had the collapsible 50mm lens and I got, like, $400 for it on Ebay. Yay me! My favorite rangefinder is an old Petri 35-something, another auction bargain. No battery but it has a selenium light meter that still works and is remarkably accurate! Petri's, alas, were never paragon of reliability even when new and mine may be the last fully functional example with a working light meter. I never use it, which is why it still works and is also why it is my favorite. If it never takes a picture it will never disappoint me.
Ah the lovely Jupiter-12 ... it is my the goto lens on my Canon L1 and I recognized it instantly on your Leica M6 :) :)
cuz it's beautiful with red dot and leica's last fully mechanically manual thingy. but i prefer m3 black + red elmar, golden standard for me
Videos are always 🔥. Thanks for the awesome content, dude.
I sold my M6 for a black M2 and am so happy now! The M2 just seems much better to me. I always used an external light meter anyway.
The small size of the camera, I would like to add, means it's not a hassle to carry with you when out and about. I keep mine in a small fanny pack. It's portable, quiet, and built to last. As far as image quality goes--it's all about the lens. If you wear glasses, you might want to try a Leica before you drop the money on one. If you wear glasses, you can't see all the frame lines.
